  1. Fish like floating plants. Things like duckweed help make them feel secure and discourage jumping if you wanted to go topless. It has the same benefits as other plants and anybody can grow it. I like having it for my betta tank. Now plant sellers aren't going to like it because it's one of those just get a teaspoon or so of leaves and you have a lifetime supply of it. There's not much profit in that. The fears/horror stories are way overblown as well. It doesn't replicate THAT fast. If you don't want it in a tank it's not that hard to get rid of, just scoop it out. Now it is messy when you stick your arm in the tank, but it doesn't take long for it to sort itself out and go back in place and you can of course just clean your arm off. I think the pros outweigh the cons but it's a preference thing.
  2. Sent you a PM. I don't use Aqua Huna but unfortunately that's all anybody will recommend here. There's more out there though.
  3. I'll just say that what's true in general of a species, like plecos hide all the time, isn't true of every individual fish in that species. I've seen plecos that hang out on the front glass during the daytime. I don't know anything about "normal" kuhli behavior but it sounds like you just have active fish, which is ok.
  4. What's different about this tank from your other 3 tanks? What did you use as an ammonia source during the fishless cycle?
  5. I mean I'm an adult, but not like a real adult. I'm basically still a kid.
  6. My first car was a 1978 ford granada. Bought it for $100 and rebuilt the 302 engine. A car I wish I never got rid of was my 2000 Honda Civic Si.
  7. That's a fun game. Loved the warrior and ninja. Potato of course.
  8. I wouldn't start worrying until you get above like 40 nitrates. Some are even comfortable with 50. If I had 20 I would think "just right".
  9. All the replies plus the ways you can customize the media are why I actually love the aquaclears. I don't use any currently but I do like em. They do have a strong outflow at full blast, but using a 110 on something like a 65 gallon is pretty common. Just realized it was that friendly local fish store guy lol. I dunno man that guy seemed to know their stuff tbh. They were just opinionated on some things like most fish people are.
  10. Never actually heard of him. I'll look him up. But stuff like that is so cool.
  11. Yea I would just shake it up real good then add it to the second bottle.
  12. Dropsy was my thought as well though I've only seen pictures of the whole body affected rather than a small part. Unless it's just the start?
  13. The finer grits are super fine. If a corydora farted the sand would be all over the water column. Very frustrating material to work with. The 20/40 medium grit is considered the sweet spot for not being too fine nor too big and chunky. If you were going to stray from the medium size you would want to go coarser rather than finer.
  14. They have trout fishing contests here in West Virginia with the goal being to catch one of those golden trout. Of course catching hatchery trout isn't really a challenge at all as they haven't learned to avoid fisherman. The challenge is they only put so many goldens in a location.
  15. Sorry for your losses. Don't get too discouraged. I would follow Colu's advice.
  16. Been lucky I guess. Never had an issue with USPS. Now FedEx is a different story.
  17. Was thinking this was going to be about an alternative to seachem garlicguard lol. That does look good though.
  18. Ignore that. I meant the horizontal bars going across but those aren't supporting the full weight either. It's just looked weird at first glance. Not enough coffee yet this morning lol.
  19. Love me some snails. Have an order of 3 black mystery snails coming next week.
  20. I know there's cool members only stuff but I'm with you. I don't subscribe to any youtube channels or pay for any other social media content. There's tons of helpful aquarium related youtube channels out there and it would take forever to go through all of their free content much less the paid stuff. If I don't find something on one channel there's always another one. I'm not going to pay for the "privilege" of asking questions either for the same reason. The co-op is cool but it's not the only game in town. I can find answers elsewhere if needed. Then there's the fact I've spent on average $50/month this year at the store. If I do that and then get asked to spend even more it just comes across as greedy. And I don't like greedy.
  21. Good to know as I was about to go fish supply shopping at my sister's apartment and snag some of her almond leaves. I added driftwood to my 10 gallon tank and found that I love the look of tannins in the water. With my hardness and KH at almost 20 I don't think the leaves will alter my PH.
  22. Agreed with above. In my non-engineer opinion those angled pieces connecting to the main braces aren't helping anything since the weight is coming from above.
