  1. I am intested to know as well! Thats on my wish list waiting for me to set up my 20L and it was in stock, then out,, then in (probably out again) and I am worried it won't be in stock when I am ready.
  2. Irene, that's a great pic of the oto's tail - IMHO they have the most beautiful caudal fins - graceful and ornate. I have six new otos and already falling in love with them.
  3. You know you're a NERM when you have several spare tanks sitting around for experiments on the fly. 🙂
  4. I moved the otocats from quarantine into the main tank today (45-gal). The rasboras are a bit unsettled by their new tankmates and are cautiously observing while huddled together. The otos seem quite comfy in their new home and are munching away, totally oblivious to the rasboras.
  5. Two of my six otocats - out of quarantine today and spread out over their new big algae feast!
  6. @Paulhow can anyone not like discus? They're positively gorgeous!!
  7. You're being too nice when you say the smell of soilent green isn't too pleasant 😁. It's quite...aromatic, in an unpleasant way...shall we say. About what I'd expect mashed up algae and insects/larvae to smell like when combined with very hot water. Oh, the things we do for our finned friends.
  8. Hikari micro pellets, flake, frozen daphnia, dried bloodworms, repashy soilent green, live baby brine shrimp, mineral junkie bites (for shrimp, pond snails love them too), algae wafers (only shrimp and pond snails will eat these). Also got a sample of soft micropellet food from where I ordered the brine shrimp hatchery, which the danios love but it sinks too fast for the rasboras - they like it but do not chase below a certain level in the tank. I'm going to order some of that when I need to replenish my supply (which will probably be outdated well before finished).
  9. Rasbora aren't live-bearers and would probably help out with the young endler fry, too.
  10. I got word the wood base for my 20L has shipped and I should be able to pick it up tomorrow! Got all my water changes done and another batch of baby brine shrimp started. I have a wish list on Coop and need to place that order today (except for the plants). I also decided I need more gravel for the 20L and am going to order that. Still looking for a glass top. Its also time to straighten my supplies again! And more house organizing to make room for gallons of water.
  11. Having worked for a divorce/family law attorney for 10 years, I am guessing that you married folks have a lot more going for you re your marriages than anything solely aquarium-related. Your spouses' patience with and/or indifference to your passion (except maybe putting on the brakes when it comes to $$ or space) are but a side effect of a good relationship. Trust me, if your spouse is unhappy they suddenly become very critical and intolerant of anything you do, not because they don't like what you do, but because they don't like you (and many times it's mutual). - happily single with a large side of loneliness
  12. If it turns out you're not getting enough oxygen in the water, you could try a reducer valve on the air line, and tighten the air stone to make the bubbles as small as possible so everyone is happy. I have flosting plants (sprite, red root, and something-minimus), and they're all in a jumble, kept in the middle by a sponge filter w/airstone on one side, and HOB on the other. Its perfect as they never get whipped around!
  13. Your gravel looks a lot like gravel I just bought for my 20L. Is it larger than "regular" aquarium gravel? I wonder how well it works for corycats. I ordered it online and really like the look. Both of my other aquariums have plain black gravel.
  14. Worms similar to that came in on my ramshorn snails. I am assuming a couple rasboras had themselves a snack once I put them in there.
  15. I've seen mine ( both rasboras and danios) try to eat a piece that's too big, looks like they try to chew, then spit out the other half and rush in to finish before the next one grabs it! 🙂
  16. But then you might find yourself short on time or money (or both) as you have to manage all your other daily chores and finances on your own, and all or most of the physical work of taking care of your aquariums and household. It's a trade off - total freedom in some respects but a lot less in others.
  17. I recorded for a half hour today. Aome select gifs of the love birds.
  18. Whatever brand of tank you get (I have aqueon), for the top a hinged glass top works well for whatever light you use. If you can't find the aqueon brand (I have never seen any other name brands, but am sure they must exist), try top fin from petsmart - i have one in my 10 gal and it appears to be the same quality as aqueon. I have a shrimp filter in mine, but probably any HOB filter will do as long as it has room for extra filter material, and Coop recommends a sponge filter w/airline and air stone as well. I have both aqueon and fluval heaters, and a spare for each tank (need for spare I suppose depends on where you live). I have aqueon LED lights which are good for low or medium light plants (check around for prices as they vary widely). The plant I have the best luck with is water sprite, but have lost quite a few others, and find it easier to understand my fish than plants! You might have luck with the "easy planter" with the plants Cory recommends in the video that will send out shoots all over.
  19. My sprite also grows like crazy! I started with one, now have several that could each be divided into several more, plus I have sacrificed several small pieces for fish in quarantine. One of my shrimp left a molt on one the other day.
  20. @angecould you expound on exactly how you prepare it (2-1 or 3-1, etc.), and how to paint it on things? Mine made a total disaster when I tried to "drip" it onto a rock. I have six new otocats and want to be ready when they're moved into the community tank. I will buy some fake decoration to paint it on. Right now i just put a piece of it on the bare bottom of the q tank where it kind of falls apart. I watched Cory's vid but it didn't really help, plus he made a huge batch and dipped the decoration in, which won't work well for a small batch made in a small bowl. Thank you!
  21. Another encounter, after I moved the angle of the phone to the left. He's doing somersaults over her!
