  1. That's like going to a candy store, I don't think I would be able to just have one! No one seems to have Plakats here either.
  2. Yours? Do they terrorize the fish? CPO.. beautiful!
  3. @Patrick_G Thank you, I will give them a go!
  4. Such a pretty! I've had a few cats through the years and what I've learned most is to try and feed the best food you can, it pays off in the end with vet care. Look for food with low ash content and you shouldn't have any urinary problems. See if they will let you clip their nails. Some will, some won't. I use ordinary nail clippers and go slowly so not to clip the "quick" if you do they will bleed and cats don't forget! They live longer if you keep them inside and each should have their own litter box. Some people think that's cruel.. it isn't. They don't get run over, grabbed by dogs, or become pests in your neighbours garden that way. Walmart sold a litter box that had a top that fit over the box where clumping litter could fall through. I use wood stove pellets, only $6 a bag. They get damp dissolve and you can take a litter spoon to help them fall through the screen to leave dry pellets remaining. Very environmentally friendly as I can dump in the woods as it's only wood. The turds get put in a zip lock bag and put out to the garbage... never think about putting them down the toilet! Treat with a quality vet flea control once in a while and you should be just fine. Remember cats are the boss not you!
  5. A terrible week for rhodos and flowers. Everything got burnt to a crisp during a 4 day heatwave. Temps up to 111F. This odd looking fuchsia I didn't write the name down. I remember the tag said it was a plant with " registered growing rights" on it, so not allowed to propagate or give away... it puts out new shoots like fleas on a dog! Photographed with a piece of letter size computer paper for a botanical look. With climate change I should seriously think about plants that are drought resistant.
  6. Great looking egg McMuffin.. think I'll go make one!
  7. @Isaac M The difference is amazing! I am sold, and will start doing more research and will gratefully accept your help. It might have to wait some as I am a 24 hr caregiver and want to give a move like this my full attention... I can start thinking about supplies though. Surprisingly I have next to no algae issues in my tanks even with the gravel, even in the newest 20 long. Must be luck! I just raided my well planted 40B and divided everything up to plant up the new 20 and 29 gallon tanks. I'm already seeing in my mind the benefits organic soil will have. Great thread. Thank you very much. I will do that, I just bought 4 inch terracotta pots on a whim.. this will be a good experiment!

Surprisingly I have next to no algae issues in my tanks even with the gravel, even in the newest 20 long. I'm very careful with my light strength so it must be luck! I just raided my well planted 40B and divided everything up to plant up the new 20 and 29 gallon tanks since I'm unable to get out due to responsibilities. I'm already seeing the benefits that organic soil will have will have on this tank in my mind!
  9. Will give that serious consideration in the future. I will search links on doing a escape on an already establish tank... that sounds like a major. Wonder if it could be a several hour project changing out the current substate and returning the fish from temporary buckets?
  10. Thank you @Isaac M I still prefer low maintenance and low tech so your information inspires me that you can grow so many varieties without co2. I stick to the easiest.. Anubia's, Crypts, the Java Ferns, Buce, Hygro and Subwassertang. I don't do swords as they would break the bank keeping up with root tabs with my inert substrate. Seachem root tabs work out to be a dollar each for the largest bag of 40. I can go through a bag each month for all the tanks not counting Thrive All-in_One. I have seen a difference in plant quality and growth using them regularly. Wish it was possible to order from Aquarium Co-op. Maybe one day....
  11. That's a beautiful branch.. branch envy!
  12. Agree with @Colu and @BIG GREEN If you were to get some cory's I would consider only keeping 2 rams maybe. Depending on their sex they can get bickering with each other. I'm learning they do better in pairs, and get beautiful when they have enough "space" so they aren't snarky!
  13. Learn about cycling a tank and all the methods one can do it. That is a very important start. Wonderful that you are pro active. The members here will be a great resource for you, good luck!
  14. I was wondering about ammonia too, especially if there have been deaths. Crab Cuisine is a great way to provide calcium in food.
  15. I like my KD with drained diced tinned Italian tomatoes on top eh!
  16. You don't need a ph stabilizer, a Ph of 7 to 7.8 is normal and in the safe range. You would be better to get a basic master test kit that tests for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, it should also contain ph drops. Basic water changes, salt for fin rot ( be aware it will affect your plants ) and a stable temperature. Always treat your replacement water with Prime and Stability will help with the cycle. Your betta has a lovely home.
  17. You mentioned Ph up and down powders. What is the actual Ph? It is always better for fish to adapt to your actual ph instead of trying to stabilize it with chemicals.
  18. Sounds good, I have a custom 50 gal covered with a piece of plate glass that doesn't reach the back. I'll keep it to sit the Fluval on, and do a cutout section from the polycarbonate for the filters etc. to fit inside the rim. Thanks for posting pics of your tanks, those tops look nice and tidy.
  19. Plants don't do so well with salt, you might want to salt in Quarantine as well. Is your tank normally at 85 degrees. Pepper Cory's are one of the lower temp Corydoras, 76-79 degrees. Hope you can bring your Otos around.
