  1. Found a great root on the on the river bank on my walk this morning. Heavy as heck, so I thought probably water logged, bonus. Took 3 of us to walk it home before I cut it. Good neighbours are priceless! Hacked it up, took a wire brush and hose to it, and voila I'm pretty impressed! Soaking in the tub, will dump in enough salt to kill and then pour some boiling water over. The LFS had same size pieces of imported wood and wanted $187 each for them, I'm pretty happy with mine and have never had any this large before. The creek was dry and I think it was washed ashore or someone pulled it in for me!
  2. I recently lost my husband, my tanks are comforting and maintaining them is helping me though my grieving. I have a new Plakat betta to nurture.
  3. How about the Green Terror Cichlid? I saw one that was turned into the LFS because it was inherently evil and attacked anything that came near the tank.
  4. Irene is one of my favourites.. sharing the ups and downs in a way only she can do!
  5. It just disappeared off the shelf, as did General Cure. Been waiting 6 months to get Prazipro and so far no luck. Those are nice rainbows! @Gannon
  6. I would certainly take Aquarium Co-op's recommendation. Maracyn is hard to get here and Paraguard has worked well for fin rot and fungus with my fish.
  7. I have cleared up lip fungus on a giant danio with 4 or 5 doses of Paraguard then water change. I've used it half dose on Cherry Shrimp with no ill effects. Didn't bother my plants.
  8. Casper is lovely. I had a King Kong earlier, he was just like a dog with so much personality. I learned if I fed him first he wasn't so aggressive towards me. Yes, he used to bite too. @B1gJ4k3What goodwill to foster a fish in need, I hope one day they will be reunited, but right now he couldn't be in better hands.
  9. @Odd Duck What kind of a pump are you using please?
  10. If I do fish dips I use a 2 cup glass pyrex measure for treatments. It will hang inside my quarantine tank and the outer tank water keeps the dip solution warm ( tank water/methblue/ salt ect ). then return the fish to the quarantine and dump the solution in the cup. The measure cup is only for dips.
  11. I've just learned that fact.. my Bloody Mary's threw just about all translucent orange shrimp-lets and even some albino's. This happened on the 1st generation. It worked this way with my kids too, I thought they would all look the same and they don't!
  12. Don't squash it as they regenerate. I've only had them in my quarantine tank and think they must have hitchhiked with some shrimp I bought. Still in there and I tend to use a small syphon to suck them off the glass when I see them. Nothing out of that tank goes anywhere near the other tanks! https://aquariumbreeder.com/hydra-in-a-shrimp-tank-treatment/
  13. It's sort of an experiment, when they mate off a pair can be nasty to the left over female I've found. I currently have 3 males and 2 females in my 40g community tank. I just divided all the plants up in this tank to share with other tanks as I can't get out to buy more. I've had to put rock sight dividers in amongst the plants hoping if there is any bickering, they will get away from each other and have time outs. Use anything.. driftwood, decor as long as they can't see each other! So far everyone looks ok. Now the other tanks are a different story, had a 29g with 2 males, 1 female and had to remove a dominant male. He went into a 50g loach/giant danio tank.. that didn't work well either as he had to compete for food and the loaches took a round out of him even with lots of hiding places and caves. So he's currently in a 10 gallon recuperating, and I will have to find a larger tank for a new home, not that I want another tank. The other 2 remaining male Bolivians are in the 20g long and get along just fine. Have to mention that the problem ones were my first 3 that produced 10 juveniles. The younger ones are now a year and a half old and get along better together.
  14. Supplementing with blanched zucchini slices are welcomed by both Oto's and shrimp.
  15. Welcome! That's a fine looking betta!
  16. Welcome from another Canadian. Great tanks... you'll like it here!
  17. @Patrick_Gperfect for here, water restrictions all summer, and perhaps all the elk will ignore it. They just pruned my raspberry's for me.
  18. Is the little white and red fairy looking plant in the background a type of Lobelia @Patrick_G? Pretty!
  19. I didn't know Bee Balm came in Lavender!
