  1. I would definitely let him settle in at least for 48 hours before treating...shipping is pretty traumatic for fish! He is very pretty!! 😍
  2. That makes me feel a lot better about myself, haha! Thank you!! 😂👍
  3. Got home today, and the bump was smaller...but still very noticeable. It seems like it got whiter in color and lost some of its volume. Dipped him for 5 minutes in a higher concentration of salt water while I refreshed his jar. I think I will leave him in this fresh lower concentration bath for 48 hours and continue monitor. (Also, please note...I have no idea how to tell if a rasbora is a male or a female...so, if I keep calling a lady a guy, please forgive me! I've not even Googled how to tell! 😅)
  4. IKR!! I think I must have an unrequited love for lambchop rasboras...haha! The little fisho survived the night...I am prepping my quarantine tank for another group of fish, so this guy has gotten the half gallon jar treatment. I've never treated with aquarium salt before, but he made it through day one at the 1/2 tsp to 1 gal ratio prescribed on the package...I need to do more research because I don't know if I want to do a high concentration dip.
  5. @Rudles - you should totally start a journal post of your tank!! That way you can keep all of the good progress in one location/post! It has been really fun watching your tank progress!! It's beautiful! 😍
  6. Love the pink flamingo crypt!! It'll definitely perk up! Your plants and animals always look so happy! Maybe Pooka was an interior decorator in a former life! 😂👍
  7. Okay - I'll isolate and start with aquarium salt and see where that goes! Thank you @Colu and @Fish Folk!!
  8. Hi friends! I was watching my tank and saw this lambchop rasbora guy do a barrel roll...and was like...that's odd! So, I investigated further...😱...any ideas?? Parameters today: Ammonia - 0 ppm Nitrite - 0 ppm Nitrate - 20 ppm pH - 7.4 GH - 6 degrees (110 ppm) KH - 3 degrees (35 ppm) Temperature - 76 degrees Fahrenheit Considering isolating and treating with aquarium salt...but crossing my fingers someone will have experience!
  9. I am beyond pumped to follow this...thank you for the detailed step-by-step!!!
  10. So...I was bad and ordered more stock for my tank. 😬 Got a breeder pack of orange sakura shrimp and some more lambchop rasboras to re-up my population (now that I know the error in my ways, we'll be treating the water correctly and quarantining the rasboras...for sure!). I'm hopeful that I can get the shrimp to breed and transfer some to Spritz's tank at school, too! 🤞 Surely now I'm finished ordering fish and plants...right? 😜😅
  11. I love the NERM tier words that @Hobbit picked out!! I also really love the idea of merch...although, I would request more color options for clothing...as a very pale person, black just makes me look like a red-headed Wednesday Adams! 😂 I don't think people would wear ACO green, and the heather greys are a snore...but a forest green or charcoal grey could be nice! I'm sure that's one of those things where you can't please everyone... I also really like the idea of enamel pins, especially since those can easily be applied and moved to different pieces of clothing/gear.
  12. Hi teacher friend!! I agree with everything said above! He looks like he will recover! I am excited for his new adventure with that sweet tank! I've got a classroom betta fish (and, I'm babysitting another for a coworker on maternity leave), and here are a few suggestions: He's going to need CLEAN water to recover, and you're probably going to want to do partial water changes multiple times a week...at least until your tank is cycled. I would get a siphon with a squeeze ball (like this one, or something similar) and stick the end in a sink, that way you can remove about a gallon from the tank very easily. You don't need to scrub...just get about a gallon of old water out to put a gallon of fresh treated back in! I would keep a gallon of treated/dechlorinated water near to the tank and use that to top off. I usually use an old distilled water jug. Keep an ammonia test kit close! And, consider using a bottled bacteria to get that tank cycled quickly. If the ammonia registers above 0.5 ppm, you should probably water change. Bottled bacteria is something that I use regularly, and in my experience it gets the tank ready for fish faster. If you choose to use it, be sure to follow the directions carefully! You've got this!!! Kudos for upgrading the guy's tank! He will be a happy dude in no time!
  13. Harvested some Java babies and tied them to some driftwood to grow out...never attempted this before (never had this many babies before!), so I'm interested to see how it turns out!!
  14. I just waited out the cloudiness...it's frustrating, but it'll eventually settle!! Flourite is DUSTY, haha! I'm excited for you and your new tank!!! It'll be great! 🥳
  15. I love this thread!!! Everyone has such beautiful gardens! This is what's blooming in my very humble yard right now: Tickweed, Russian Sage, False Indigo, and Snapdragons...and a rare dog flower, apparently. 😜
  16. I second! Sakura looks great!!! Fins do get damaged and bitten and split sometimes, so...as long as healing is happening and new damage isn't appearing every day, I would not stress at all! Clean water is crucial, and it sounds to me like Sakura is living the great life with you!!! 😆👍 When are you planning on moving him to his forever home?
  17. I definitely look forward to your updates!!! Your fishroom will be epic!!
  18. Using aquarium water actually helps me remember to water my plants...so it's a win win for everyone!! 😂👍
  19. I don't blame her!!! It's epic! 😂👍👍
  20. Your lily (in the second photo especially) makes me want to try lilies again! Beautiful tanks!!! 😍
  21. I am very jelly!!! The pandas are suuuuper cute! I hope they perk up for you!! Murphy and the rummy nose tetras make me want rummy nose tetras! 😍
  22. Absolutely!!!! Dose it up! I used to use Prime to dechlorinate, but ended up switching to Fluval AquaPlus because the Prime measurements were too tiny for a 5 gallon...let alone a one gallon water change! Out of curiosity, how do you measure it out?
  23. Any chance we could get a betta pic?? I'd love to see his/her condition! And/or a picture of your tank? I'd love to see the set-up! I agree with @DShelton - I wouldn't change water at 0.25 ppm ammonia. As you suggested earlier...if you want the cycle to happen, you've got to have some ammonia for the bacteria to eat!! I think you've done the right thing by holding off on the water changes. I water change when I hit 0.5 ppm ammonia, and I don't change more than 25%...after that happens a few times, the frequency of water changes tend to get farther and farther apart because the bacteria has been practicing and is better able to take care of the ammonia issue! My school tank is a 5 gallon, and I haven't water changed in three weeks...I wouldn't say that water changes are necessary unless the ammonia is over 0.5 ppm or the filter/tank is getting gross. When I was cycling that tank, I tested the water twice a day for about three weeks and never saw a real nitrite spike...but that puppy is definitely cycled now! I used bottled bacteria and ghost fed at first...but my cycle really didn't take off until I got plants and nerite snails...I think it's tougher to cycle a tank if there aren't living, pooping things present. Sometimes you've just gotta let nature do it's thing! 🌱 The consistent ammonia level of 0.25 ppm doesn't scare me...but I'd definitely be checking daily with the end goal to be to hit 0 ppm. And, keep an eyeball on the betta for worsening symptoms like lethargy, white fuzzies, and/or not eating! Best of luck!!! I look forward to your updates!!! We're rooting for you to win this cycle game! 😄👍
  24. Pete is a weird dude. I'm pretty sure he's the Zoolander of betta fish. Does anyone else's betta fish freeze and "pose?" Also...his noggin is looking better! I think the scales are growing back, and I'm not seeing any signs of illness...unless posing is a sign of illness...haha!
  25. Low tech! I've had a good amount of success with Wendetii Green and Tropica with my set-up...so I'm crossing my fingers that success with two crypt species means success with all! 🤞🤞🤞 She's in a higher light/higher poo area (the feeding happens in that corner of the tank), so that might help, too! We shall see!
