  1. Yeah...this season is the worst without Gwen! 😜
  2. I love flourite sand, too! Their black sand is stellar stuff! I have considered trashing the fluval stratum...but I'm hopeful I can get more value out of it! I wonder if mixing the two would be a good move...I feel like that is what I'll end up trying. When I drained the tank today, I had to move all of the driftwood out because my net was super small and Spritz wasn't having it. There was SO MUCH SNAIL 💩! I was not prepared, haha! Buuuut, I think that flourite + fluval + snail poo might be a winning combination for some root feeders...so, I am excited to experiment with that!
  3. That'll be handy next year for sure - our school is really spread out, but I'm going to have a few new teachers on my hall that are teaching bio (and marine bio...we need a freshwater bio class, haha!). Love that suggestion - microscopes are always a good time! 🤓👍
  4. Wellllll....SCHOOL'S OUT. FOR. SUMMERRRR!!!! 🥳 Which means...Spritz is home with me. 😄👍 Seeing his tank in my house makes me appreciate how blue his tank lid light is...yikes!! I am definitely itching to rescape. Still don't know what to do about the Fluval Stratum. I could keep it epiphyte only, and not make it tough...but where's the fun in that?
  5. Very fun!!! I'm loving the play-by-play!
  6. Hopped on the bicycle and rode down the greenway this morning with the hubs...spied some aquatic plants! 😍 Can't wait for everything to be in bloom!
  7. I play Stardew, too!!! Great music! So soothing. Just started up a new farm to play through version 1.5! I've only ever played it on a desktop computer (so, verified! It'll run through Steam on a PC!)
  8. That's a great question...to be honest, I'm not really sure. I was considering gathering nominations using a Google form and then using a platform called Padlet to get votes after nominations are closed...but I'm sure it would be preferable to keep everything based on the forum itself. I could always gather nominations via one thread and then grab the final vote (via likes) on a separate thread and then post the final on a third thread? But that seems like a lot...I guess it could all fit on one thread? I am very open to suggestions!!
  9. Quick update: The floater melted and sank within a few days...but the planted stems seem to be maintaining! Now that school is out for summer (well...one more day...gotta clean my room!), maybe I can finally work on balancing my tank and attack that brown/black algae stuff...haha!
  10. I'm thinking about re-scaping Spritz's tank this summer...I'd REALLY love to stick some crypts in there! I'm upgrading his light (got a Hygger Full Spectrum Plant light) and switching out his lid - the light that came with the tank does not support what I'd like his tank to look like. The only issue is that I'm not sure what to do about the Fluval Stratum in his tank. It's impossible to plant in that stuff! Could I cap it with flourite sand? Or, would that trap potentially harmful gases?
  11. I'm in for memes (unless someone feels very passionate and would like to take over, haha!) I'm thinking I'll start accepting nominations for each category on June 30th - July 6th (with all memes posted on or before June 30th eligible for the meme awards) and then have members vote on the finalists from July 7th until the 12th to reveal the winners on Monday the 13th...Meme-day Monday? Does that sound like it'll work?

    ranks?

These badges sure know how to make a girl feel special...I dig it! 😜
  13. Thank you all!!! We are half tempted to just stay on the coast and not go inland to Mt. Shasta or Crater Lake... These are all wonderful suggestions - I knew y'all would have that good knowledge!! 😜👍
  14. Thank you @xXInkedPhoenixX!!! I love all of these suggestions!!
  15. Hello West Coast Forum friends!! I need some help...my husband and I are going on an adventure up your side of the nation this summer! We're starting in San Francisco and then renting a car to drive up the coast through Napa and then Eureka and then Mt. Shasta and then Crater Lake and then Willamette and then either Salem or Eugene and then Portland! Phew! Any suggestions of things to do or see? Borderline sad we won't make it to Edmonds, WA OR the "10 Things I Hate About You" House...but surely there are plenty of fun things to do despite those setbacks! 😜
  16. Nice!!! I have family in Brunswick County! I live in Charlotte! There are two LFS close to where I live that carry both fresh and salt water fish. I'd really like to go visit the new one out in Belmont - I just haven't made it out there yet!
  17. Hi Shaun! How's the patient?? Hope you've had a good week so far!
  18. Fishkeeping! 🤣👍 My work BFF also got me interested in reading again! So, I joined my local library so that I could rent digital copies of books (they have the Walstad book for digital access!!) and I joined the Book of the Month Club (best thing ever). Andddd, I broke out my rigid mountain bike from middle school - a Schwinn Frontier from the time period when it was N*Sync vs. Backstreet Boys - and have been shredding the gnar (jk! lol.) on the local greenway.
  19. I am always delighted when I find a fellow North Carolinian on the forum! 😜👍 It would be fun to have a counter on a world map to know where people on the forum live!
  20. Spritz is great!!! He's going to be coming home with me for the summer....I might rescape his setup...and I did get him a new light! We shall see...summer project potentially! The AR mini that I bought did not survive...I had a lot of issues at the beginning of the 20 long (including non-existent lighting). I did also recently buy regular AR - I planted half and floated a few stems. It seems to be doing fine so far (but we are only one day in! So, we shall see!!). AR loves light...so, it'd be tough to grow in a low light tank. If you increased the lighting, you might have a fighting chance! But, I hear it gets leggy in low tech! Thanks for asking! 😄👍
  21. @Patrick_G - I'm considering making it a total experiment and planting half today...and floating half for later. The stems I have are all about 6 inches tall, and I'm completely expecting the bottom leaves to melt because it's so dark on the inside of the driftwood circle...but all the shrimp live in there, so it might be a good snack! I need to update my journal post about the pink flamingo crypt! It's already trying to spread...which is awesome!
  22. Hi friends! I'm trying to love stem plants...and, I thought I'd give scarlet temple another go. 🤞 It's going in the highest light portion of my tank - smack dab in the middle of driftwood island. Should I let it float or stay in the planter for a while before I actually stick it in the substrate? Or, any other tips for the low techie? I've got the entire Easy line...so I could increase any of those ferts pretty easily! Or even increase lighting.
  23. Awwww! I love the teal + blue...and the white on his little noggin! I didn't know it was possible, but I think Cosmo has gotten cuter!! 😍
  24. Hmmm... The ones I feed most often are: Xtreme Krill Xtreme Spirulina Xtreme Betta Bites ACO Easy Fry Hikari Betta Bio-Gold I also have: Repashy Community Plus Xtreme Bottom Wafers (these never get eaten fully) Hikari Algae Wafers (these are well loved but fall apart quickly!) Hikari Freeze Dried Blood Worms (Spritz loves these! But, I only have them at school.) And, I just ordered: Xtreme Shrimpee Sticks (can't wait!!) Xtreme Nano (I don't think I really needed this one...ha!) It's way too easy to shop for fish food...haha!!
  25. Okay! Not pine-coning is GREAT news!! He does looks slightly less swollen...keep on keeping on...and please keep us updated! 😄👍
