  1. I'm glad your mother was able to locate some iodine and is a great help to you. I hope it aids the little guy and that he pulls through all right.
  2. Oh no, that is terrible to hear! I'm sorry he's having issues right now. Don't get down! There is still hope and I'm sure you are doing all you possibly can.
  3. Caribsea makes a black aragonite sand substrate that would be good. Buffers and adds minerals to keep pH and water hardness hard. It's made for african cichlids I believe.
  4. That's awesome! Another win for the greatness of snails!!!
  5. Really digging the chocolate tint to these blackwater tanks. I don't know why.
  6. Wow the hornwort went nuts! It looks really great. It would be cool to see some low light plants down below too, since all the plant life seems up high. Maybe some anubias nana petite or some small bucephalandra variety along the driftwood?
  7. That is amazing that you got to visit his fishroom! What a great experience it must have been.
  8. Good luck! Sounds like some nice plants are coming in.
  9. Sorry to hear that. That's a bummer... I don't know how difficult it is, because I've never tried it before. Cory had an outdoor brine shrimp tub which blew my mind, so I'm definitely interested in it and want to try it one of these days. Maybe the salinity was off after the water change? Just a guess.
  10. From the video, it looked like on the bottom of the cone he glued on a big stainless steel washer as a weight. Not really sure what he used as the mesh cone it self though. Dean always has some cool stuff.
  11. It does look very similar, but my ghost shrimp seem a little more translucent. That could just be lighting and camera angle though.
  12. Wow, you do some amazing work when you're bored!!! :)
  13. He's not talking about burying the rhizome, just the pot it is in. Usually the rhizome is exposed when it's in a pot. I would think it would work, but don't want to say it definitely since I've never tried it before.
  14. I definitely agree that all animals should be treated well no matter what their destiny may be... That's so cool that they are so personable like that. I had ranchu goldfish that used to do that as well. Felt like little kisses. One would stay perfectly still if I tried to lightly hold it as well. I'm definitely more interested in these fish now. Never really seen them sold around me though.
  15. Very cool. I've read a lot that people like keeping these "feeder fish" as pets and that they are extremely hardy. Do they school?
  16. Honestly, I've never quarantined a snail before. When they arrive I put them in a specimen container to see that they are all alive and then I just add the live ones in. I never had a problem doing that. I'm not saying that's what you should do, just saying I don't quarantine snails.
  17. I find taking a pic of fish difficult as well. You killed it on that picture though! Beautiful Ram.
  18. You could definitely attach anubias to Seiryu stone. As for burying the pot, I've never tried it before so I can't really say.
  19. Looks like the start of hair algae to me. At least that's what mine looked liked in the beginning.
  20. That would definitely be best. I wish there was a nice lfs close to me. I only got a petco around me and fish keeping must be very unpopular in my area, because their aquarium department is horrendous. I don't shop there often, but 90% of the time I've gone in there, there is no employee working in that section. Dollar per gallon sales are a joke there too, because they barely keep any tanks. The only good thing I see is that they don't sell bettas. Most likely, because no one is buying. So mainly my shopping is done online, and I find it difficult to find good sellers of most things. Sorry I went off on a bit of a rant. Lol.
  21. VERY nice looking tanks! They look like they've running a good long time. Welcome to the forum.
  22. Good luck with the co2. Hope your plants go nuts! :)
  23. If you can boil it somehow, I don't see why you couldn't. Before this darn pandemic I used to pick up cute acorn shells while going on walks in perserves. Took them home and boiled them and added them to a tank. Never had a problem arise.
  24. The lowest temperture my goldfish tank got in the winters was 65 degrees F. All the anubias didn't seem bothered at all. I had a few different species of anubias back then.
  25. I've never kept a common before, but I had ranchu goldfish and they never could do any damage to anubias. The anubias were tied down to rocks so they never went anywhere also.
