If you have the fit you like, stick with your choice. With these type of parts, there can be an overlap on what fits.

... Impulse buy a Rainbow Shark, and be forced to move all the other middle fish to another aquarium!

Sweet! You'll grow into a plant keeper, I'm sure. You've picked some nice ones. I like the air stone under the powerhead.

With my little MF10 internal filters, the default media is fine foam, and when it gets clogged, the impeller pulls it enough to compress it up into the top of the sponge chamber. I swapped with AquaClear 20 foam, which does not have this problem. I am adding more and more Co-Op sponge filters too.

This could be a secondary use for Co-Op plant bags, to hold your hill-making substrate of choice.

Best gauge for how many fish in and aquarium?
Streetwise replied to Patrick M. Bodega Aquatics's topic in General Discussion
One of my favorite metrics is the population of bladder snails. If bladder snail numbers are increasing, there is more waste or decomposition happening. -
Otocinclus are very shy, but sometimes you get to see them basking on leaves. Chill tank-mates help.

I see those on Lake Champlain every summer, more than Dragonfly nymphs. However, I see more Dragonfly adults flying around.

This is in the spirit of our hobby. How do we do better? For example, has anyone found a reuse of the plant bags from the Co-Op? I tested running water thru them, and they don't even expand with max flow from a sink faucet. Can we use them for bio-filter media, or are there any other uses? Maybe they have some sump usage? I have used stacked plastic planters as Duckweed scoopers. What else can we do?

She brings order from chaos. Ultimate hostess, and most efficient bouncer. Thank you Candi!

I have it to protect hardwood floors, in this case with a rental. The power strip is above the tub, so I can control power there. Also, the tank would drain only as deep as the intake. I don’t check the tub often, but I see the water level multiple times a day.

Streetwise Homestead Aquariums
Streetwise replied to Streetwise's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
I finally moved the outdoor tubs into the basement. They are just filled with substrate, snails, rocks, and water right now. I had some spare Fluval Plant Nano lights to use on them, and a few MF10s until I get more Co-Op sponge filters this week, although I may run both. The bucket is full of maple leaf litter from the tubs, with a bunch of snails. It was too cold and tedious to try to get the snails off the leaves to put them back in the tank, so we'll see what happens with that bucket.- 59 replies

@MattyIce, I also did organic soil + cap tubs, which is why I want to keep them alive over the off-season. Next spring, I want to try some of those plants you have. @Taylor Blake, running connected ecosystems is very cool.

What's your dream aquarium product that doesn’t exist?
Streetwise replied to pedrofisk's topic in General Discussion
Priscilla MK actually tried this with a big algae scraper and it didn’t work. Maybe it would work with a nano unit. I’m just happy that I wasn’t the only one to have this crazy idea!- 729 replies

Welcome to the forum! You will love that light.

Awesome! I moved my plants, wood, fish, and shrimp from my tubs to a new tank. I decided later that I would also bring the tubs indoors with floating plants until next spring. What plants do you have in there? I love the emergent growth!

I followed that up with a Co-Op order: Ziss Brine Shrimp Hatchery, Brine Shrimp Eggs, Xtreme Krill Flakes, Python Hook, Sponge Filters, Check Valves, Never-Clog Airstones, and USB Nano Air Pumps. I am converting more tanks to Co-Op sponge filters, and adding some for my tubs. I’m going to setup a utility station with the brine shrimp hatchery, the egg tumbler, and a spare tank with the breeder box. Then when my White Clouds spawn again, I will be ready!
