  1. Hello from Alabama! Welcome to the forum!
  2. For more variety, you could mix the glofish tetras with their non-glowfish variants (their natural colors). They're all the same fish and will school together. Just an idea. :3
  3. Welcome to the forum! Really cute bettas. I have one who started out all white as well, but now he's a weird mix of grey and red.
  4. Looks like you're off to a great start! Welcome to the forums!
  5. I'd say platies. Hardier than guppies in my experience. They're colorful, active, easy to care for, easy to find in a good variety at your local store, and pretty cheap.
  6. You might enjoy one of these. I use it to catch snails for my pea puffer: https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/cleaning-supplies/products/dennerle-snail-catcher
  7. Awfully sorry to hear of your loss. The tank is looking beautiful!
  8. I like stacking a variety of different sized and shaped pieces of slate and flagstone to make caves. I can get them pretty cheap by the pound at a local pond supply store, and then I break them up with a sledge hammer (which is very cathartic! 😉 ).
  9. Welcome to the forum! Would love to see pics of your tanks. :3
  10. Welcome to the forum and to the hobby! I second the suggestion to keep all males. Though you could add a predator to the tank to keep the fry numbers down, such as a golden wonder killifish (might eat the neons though, hmm). But you probably would still need a backup plan if the population managed to get too much.
  11. I don't use a Python (though I want one). I use a loooooong hose to syphon water from my tanks into the yard. And then I use a janitor's 6 gal bucket on wheels, fill it up with replacement water, and use a pond pump to pump it into the tanks with the same hose.
  12. I love this! I'm a fan of Walstad tanks, although I don't currently have one set up. This post really makes me wish I had one!
  13. My passion is how working on my tanks makes me feel. It's very Zen. When I'm trimming plants, rearranging the décor, planning what to do next or even just watching the behavior of the inhabitants, nothing else is in my mind but what is happening in that moment. I suffer from anxiety and depression, and my tanks have been the best therapy for me; I really don't know how I'd have got through the last year without them. Not to mention the satisfaction I feel when everything is working well. That said, I also love the whole "ecosystem in a box" thing. I love seeing the fish/snails/shrimp go through their life cycles, how they interact with each other and teh little world I've created for them. I love caring for the plants. I love tweaking the environment to improve how it all works together.
  14. Welcome to the forum! Don't be afraid to ask questions!
  15. Welcome to the forum! Your 15 gal is gorgeous, I'd love to see some full tank shots!
  16. Welcome to the forums! Sorry about all the bad news! Hopefully no more crises happen! I second the Inkbird thermostats, I have them on most of my tanks and am very pleased with them. Peace of mind sort of thing.
  17. If I had an empty 10 gallon I'd do a shrimp tank with some snails. Probably get some frogbit for the top, and then lots of big, fluffy stem plants. Maybe a nice bit of spiderwood for decoration among various sized rocks. Probably would do plant-only filtration with just an airstone. Man that sounds fun. Now I want one.
