What did you get done today?

Rearranged my 100g tank. Hmm still not completely sold on it. Something's bothering me but not sure what. Any suggestions?

Perhaps there is too much stone, too big, needs wood... I dunno! Maybe I should take out like 80% and leave it simpler for the messy fish that inhabit there (would make siphoning a breeze)

What did I get done today?  Went over to my mother's and taught her how to clean her filter for her guppy tank.  Now taking the hour or so I block off each week to sit down to listen to music while watching my tanks.  Apparently, my dwarf frogs are being extra derpy today; which is always awesome. And there is something nice about watching my neon tetras under blue light before the main lights cut on. They seem to almost have this extra glow about them.

I returned the 29 gallon tank I got for my folks, and picked up a 20H instead. The furniture piece they wanted to use didn’t have a flat top, so we tied some other pieces. They were still undecided, so I drove to another LFS to pickup a 24” Fluval 3.0 since the Co-Op is out of that size this week. I also picked up a few plants and a female koi Betta.

I’ve got to get this new tank cycling and planted soon so I can empty the tubs before we get snow.

So two days ago I had a brilliant idea, put some elder cones an almond leaves in my (soon to be) apisto tank.  I boiled  them, rinsed them.  Rinsed some more. The next day, tank was black.  I mean, “can’t see anything in the tank, thought my light failed, losing my mind” black.  50% water change yesterday, ‘nother 50 today.  Running purgen still pretty dark.  Uggg.

BTW, ph did not move.  Not one bit.
p.s. tank in the picture is lighter than in real life

Scraped all the old silicone off the leaky seam on my old 10 gallon and re-sealed it with some GE Silicone caulking. I plan on testing it tonight to see if the repair worked now that it's had time to cure.

I also setup another 10 gallon inside and brought in some of my White Clouds from my summer tub. Stuck a Sera O-Nip tab (old formula) just under the water's edge on my tub and waited a minute for some of the fist to come up. With two dips of the net I pulled in 18 fish; a good mix of adults and bigger fry.

Okay this is 100% a work in progress here, and I'm a cheapskate so please don't judge to harshly.

The power cords will be cleaned up and hidden and the white thing on the top right is just a placeholder so I could get a sense of how high it will be. I still need two more cinder blocks, which I'll grab this afternoon.

i have some toolbox liner stuff coming that matches that almost day-glo look of the towels on the bottom. I'm going to cover the top 2x4s with it and just tack it on.

You'll notice there is no support in the middle of the top section. I went with 8" blocks instead of the 6" ones, so I didn't have room for the 55, the support, and the 20 gallon, but the top is only going to have a 20 gallon which will be located mostly over the top left support and a 10 gallon which will be mostly over the right hand support. The middle is just going to be used for supplies.

i also need to take down the stuff on the walls. This was my oldest son's room, but he moved out years ago and while I am a fan of Deadpool, posters aren't my favorite look.

Got my Linear Piston Air Pump today, and got the initial plumbing set up for it while watching the Aquarium Co-op and Steenfott Aquatics live streams.

Freed up 3 aqua top 100’s, a tetra whisper, And an Aquarium Co-op usb pump, added 2 more large sponge filters to my system, and increased the flow in all my tanks.

Today,

I went to a local fish store to give them some of my platys for some store credit.           ($1:25 each!)

Then I went to Petco, to get gravel and some rocks for a new 20g-long Apistogramma tank I’m setting up! I got Twi bags of eco-complete And a bag of REALLY nice looking dragon stone. The only thing I didn’t find was a piece of spider wood, so I’ll have to get that later.     ( For some reason it won’t let me put the picture right side up so sorry lol )6CDE41C9-C34A-409C-98DC-6DE9757235BD.jpeg.8d046cd7db09a7cdfa6a127a4f1eff1b.jpeg

Now I just need plants and the fish!😀

The bee grubs are not too bad as human food either. I wouldn't eat them regularly unless it was hard times. Let's just say though I'm glad the 'Hello Fresh' box came and that we are having Apricot Chicken with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes tonight.

The apricot chicken from hello Fresh is a hit at my house too. My oldest son works for them

Came home to find the only one bronze corydoras in my 220.... *concern* I had a breeding group in there.

Go into husband's office to ask if he noticed anything odd going on in the 220 today.... find the other bronze corydoras have been moved into husband's office tank. He said he didn't like how the angels weren't eating the food off the bottom of the tank. We still haven't gotten there on 'how much' to feed that tank a day, but, he's learning, and I'm not going to fault him for taking initiative and showing an interest in the aquarium, even if it maybe wasn't quite the first step I'd  have gone for. I went and caught the other corycat and moved him to be back with his group. Now I'm  wondering what sort of bottom dweller I want to keep in a 220 with rainbowfish.

Oh and was trying to get a picture of my anubias in one tank to show someone and all the fish in that tank decided they had to photobomb me.

Had these shelves in the corner of my room that were not suitable for fish tanks, so I removed them and built a sticks and stones.  Should be able to fit 3 x 10 gallons on the lower shelf and on the top shelf a 40 gallon and a 29.

friend is coming over tomorrow to help move a 40 to it.

Received a new cave I got through Etsy, that has see through sides.  Installed said cave, and reinserted driftwood tree on top.  Now if only I could get the clown pleco to use the cave instead of hiding under the sponge filter!

And, apparently from the first picture, watched an episode of BONES!

another late night build; i had this rimless 4g shrimp cube i planned to aquascape, i had the hardscape done but i didn’t rinse the sand (fluorite onyx) and it never really settled well. i left it alone and it got overgrown in algae, i decided i was going to plant it finally and bought some crypts from an online plant farm. plants came infested with leeches which still creeps me out.

i decided to catch out (what i thought) were a few remaining cherry shrimp and redo this tank. apparently the leeches weren’t hunting all of them down because there were a handful of babies.

the state of the tank

it took an hour of me netting this water before i caught all of the babies

the leeches. i have been sanitizing the plants that were in here so hopefully these don’t come back.

the shrimps. these are moving to the shrimp bowl i made earlier this week.

i added some window diffuser on the back, it will help hide the ferts and food i keep on that bottom shelf.

i have this nice piece of driftwood i’ve been wanting to use, it is screwed to some slate, which while it keeps it in place, it’s going to be difficult to plant above it without having a deep substrate which i don’t want

i added some black river stone to match the monochromatic look, i really want the plants to pop against it. i also plant to keep other shrimp or small nano fish in here and i love the look of bright fish on black/grey.

tomorrow: plant it and clean up around it, i need some major cord management.
