  1. My 2 albinos sometimes do this behavior where one becomes kind of grumpy and pushes sand around, opening his mouth wide and shoveling the sand, and they both twitch like in the video. Sometimes they will open their mouths very big like going 😮 and then appear to have a confrontation? Is this breedinh behavior? Or maybe marking territory? They never fight or lock lips but they surely look grumpy.
  2. Thanks Cory! Yeah there's plenty of slow spots but they love to be in there, but I've noticed the bosemani are the ones that are there the most now.
  3. Yeah that air pump is giving its last bubbles lol, gotta replace it and put an airstone. Haven't done it yet cause the internal powerhead has a venturi system that oxygenates the water (hard to see but it's spewing fine bubbles). They're neon dwarfs and boesemani, all juvenile I just got them.
  4. My rainbows spend all day on the outake of the pwoerhead I use. They seem to enjoy going against the flow for hours, only coming out of it when it's feeding time. Should I be worried? Do rainbows like big flow at all or is there something going on that I should address? I'm afraid they will exhaust their little bodies and die, furiously swimming aginst the flow all day.
  5. So in my eternal search for big stuff for my big aquarium, I learned about mock rocks used in gardens that people use to cover up utility gauges and stuff like that. I went to my local Lowe's and they had this amazing big rock that was also very light, and thought it would make an amazing cave for my jack dempseys and other big cichlids. Ebay has plenty too. They seem to be made of plastic but got this texturized finish that I'm not sure if its aquarium safe. Any of you guys have ever tried anything like that? If it's aquarium safe this might be super nice to have, since the weight of a rock that size makes it impossible to work with lol. They're considerably cheaper than universal rocks too hehe, these examples are like 70-90 in ebay.
  6. Qutie the contrary, these are in my experience, the hardiest fish I've ever kept, on par with oscars.
  7. Thanks! I got a bunch, love that fish even though they can be a bit controversial
  8. I'm looking to aerate my 320 gallon aquarium. It is 10' long and I got 6 sponge filters all along the back. Does anyone have a suggestion on the most efficient way of aerating it? If possible, I want a single pump for the 6 sponges, is the medoblower overkill? Is there a way to hook that one up without having to make a pvc loop?
  9. Thanks! I will try the salt first.
  10. Water is 7.6ph, hardness is about 18gh, and parameters are 0/0/40 My vieja zonatus developed these cyst like growths a week ago. At first I thought it was just a small wound from getting too rowdy with other fish but now they have grown and I see another one growing near the gills below the mouth (can see very briefly at the beginning). Also, another vieja seems to have a smaller one. Any idea what this might be? Some kind of parasite? Viral infection? Lymphocystis?
  11. https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/12/26/xiaomi-mijia-smart-fish-tank-supports-remote-feeding/?amp=1 Crowdfunding has started today. It has tons of features for just $60. They claim it can go for 6 months without a water change but we all know that's BS (unless you got like 3 neons? Lol). Also BS is the claim that a 20L aquarium can keep so many fish as they say. But it has lots of functions, including remote feeding and lighting, flow control, self cleaning pump, integrated siphon that starts with a button press, etc. Peersonally I think it's very good that such a giant company is doing this. Maybe it's the beginning for innovative aquarium stuff that's in diré need, Cory himself has said the industry is kinda stagnant, we are still using tech from decades ago. Thoughts?
  12. That is a beautiful betta and shelly bois, they remind me of my two mystery snails that I bought when I started with the hobby 3 years ago. They were also yellow and blue. They're long gone but I preserved their shells and now they're on display in my detolf. Watch out for the multi tank syndrome, it's very real!
  13. Python have the best hoses, but they're pricy!
  14. Ultra active fish for a 20-29: Zebra/leopard danios (lil torpedoes) Fancy guppies (slower but more flamboyant) Cherry barbs (ultra fast + shiny) I might get hated for this, but i think a glofish tank would be the best choice for him. Add a bunch of glo danios and watch the laser show in your tank. Super eye catching and easy. https://youtube.com/shorts/pRTYwk3bq3E?feature=share https://youtu.be/spNXJsWd0qk As you can see, they're far from shy. Can even hand feed them.
  15. Since you're busy, get tons of low maintenance plants like anubias, cryptos, dwarf aquarium lillies, etc. Also stock very light, that will help you with maintenance. Looking at serpae design he does a lot of jungle-style scapes, uses lots and lots of wood and plants, so you might wanna start with that. Find some really good pieces that achieve a balanced composition, don't just put the first pieces of wood you find, try to visualize how you want the aquarium to look like, and then you will know which pieces will work. Then you can start plating + attaching plants to the wood
  16. When I started, I think I was ordering once every 2 weeks or so. Now I order about each month some Xtreme Big fella for my cichlids. I wen't thru that phase of "lets try ALL THE FOODS!" before settling up with xtreme. Now I'm all good with just big fella and N.I.C.E. 1.5mm, I do not have small fish anymore so I do not order krill flakes anymore.
  17. Ammonia and nitrites are 0 Nitrates about 20 according to cory's strips 7.6ph and hard water (350ppm GH) I got these 2 oscars from my local fish store about a month ago, but since then theyve been very lethargic and at the bottom all the time. First it was the darker one, then the other tiger one followed. They dont eat almost anything, i feed xtreme big fella. I tested my water and everything is in order, and my other assorment of Americans are completely fine and eat like piranhas. I got 2 other big oscars without any signs of hith, so i think the problem is not my water or nutrition, but eather these 2 new guys that for sone reason wont eat and are starting to get malnourished. What should i do? Treat the whole 325g tank with something? Treat these 2 in a hospital tani? What med should i use and how do I motivate em to eat more? Afraid to lose them they're such beauties 😞
  18. Incredible looking tank! Thank you so mich, I was actually thinking on mounting several lights liek your setup but couldn't figure how to do it, never really tought about mounting on the wall itself! I will probably do this as it is much easier to do water changes without having to move a big light around.
  19. So I installed my 320g, 10' long aquarium a month ago, but I'm at a loss on how to illuminate it. Right now I got my old nicrew lights and a generic undercabinet led light, but it's clunky to have 3 separate, different temp lights. I was wondering if anyone got any suggestions on how to illuminate this aquarium? Was thinking on fabricating one with led strips, but dunno where to start... Doesn't have to be full spectrum, as I have 0 plants (american cichlids munch them all lol). Really like the look of warmer tones, easier on the eyes plus they make orange/red fish pop more, which are the majority here.
