Whos ready for outdoor tubbing season?!?!?!?
Garren replied to FrozenFins's topic in General Discussion
Definitely going to try my hand in doing a small tub this year. Probably just do some Guppies and cherry shrimp. More excited about all the plants I can grow in the tub. I will need to make it esthetically pleasing so the wife will be ok with it but other than that I should be good to go. -
A friend of mine has this same tank and did set it up with a fluval 3.0 Nano. He did remove the old light like you were said. He said it has been working good for him.

Balancing a tank takes some time and one change can take a few weeks to see any difference. I would cut the root tabs out for now and try to keep the nitrates at or around 20ppm. You could also increase you water change to 30%. Just try one thing at a time till you narrow it down. Lots of youtube and blogs from aqaurium co-op on this matter as well.

Great points! Long term stability is much better. If we can recreate their natural environment it is a much better solution. I would make sure you have some good places for them to hide out as well. They will feel more secure and less stressed.

I am really liking Buce and Dwarf chain sword.

Agree with @Mmiller2001 that medication would probably be the best solution just to rule out any disease. As far as hardness is concerned, I have read many articles showing corydoras even pygmy corydoras can thrive in hard water. Their nature environment can have many swings in the parameters. Most fish can acclimate to it. I have them in 300ppm hardness with no problems. I would recommend slow drip acclimation when you get them. This will help them acclimate much easier to your hard water if it is different from the LFS. I slow drip acclimate all my fish and have had a lot of success doing it.

I personally would go with Rams. Nice setup on the tank looks really cool. Like the rocks you have. What are they? I think a black background would really make the tank pop.

Why did the pufferfish call itself fat? Because it was fishing for compliments.

Well I started with the intention of only having one and now I have three. (MTS) Each Aquarium I have has a story and chapters not written yet. 38g Bowfront-My first tank setup for my daughter and I to have something to do together during COVID, learned a lot with many trials and errors. Tank is doing fantastic. (First learning tank and now my main display) 10g-Setup a Walstad (dirted tank). Just finally got done cycling. Some fish are more resilient than we may think they are. Many chapters to go. (experiment tank) 20gal Tall- Eco-complete planted Aquascape. Just finished cycling. Learned there can be hitchhiker fish than come in on cycled filter media. (Aquascape tank) What story does your aqaurium('s) tell? Share your stories here.

HOB with sponge filter on planted 20 long
Garren replied to PatO's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I am running two nano's on one USB pump. Recommend putting control valves so you can even the air flow out to each filter. If you don't one will have more flow then the other one. So far I have not had any issues with water not being clear. Here is a picture of my Nanos in my 20gal. Disregard the red circle, I used this picture to point out something in a different post- 4 replies

Starting a tank for our newborn!
Garren replied to Durrance Family's topic in Introductions & Greetings
Welcome to a amazing forum! My 6 month old son loves sitting in front of the tanks with me watching all the activity. When the pleco swims up on the glass he gets really excited. Hopefully James gets excited as well. -

Had to move this Cryptocoryne Wendtii Green as it was way to close to the rock. Moved it forward. When I pulled it up from the substrate it had a massive root system already and only had been in the tank since 22 January. Also, the dwarf chain sword had sent out about 4 runners now with little plants popping up all over the place. The Montecarlo is slowly coming along. Not getting a lot of spread yet but the roots are growing very well. Got to love the quality of plants from the CO-OP. 😀😀

Two TINY fish fry hitchhiked into my aquarium... do I need to feed?
Garren replied to Toobit67's topic in General Discussion
I only had one little guy in the tank and I did a small pinch twice a day. My pinch sizes were about as big as the top of a pen. Did not want to dirty the water to much because I was still cycling the tank. So glad they are doing good!! -

My little hitchhiker fry is doing well. Growing but still cannot tell what it is yet. Tank Nitrite was all the way up to 5.0 PPM for 5 days and now it just dropped to .25 PPM today. I think it is just about done cycling. Interesting thing is that the one fry and the 3 cherry shrimp I had in the tank did very well through the cycle. All my plants have had some growth. The chain sword is starting to really spread. I will load some pictures later.

Two TINY fish fry hitchhiked into my aquarium... do I need to feed?
Garren replied to Toobit67's topic in General Discussion
I had the same thing happen. I cultured infusoria but it takes a few days to get it going. Before my infusoria was ready I was feeding them hard boiled egg and Sera fry food.
