  1. I have stored tanks like that in the past without issue.
  2. I agree with 2 smaller heaters. I use one Aqueon 150 watt in my 55 and have not had any troubles.
  3. I had 2 powder blue males and had to relocate the smaller one that was getting beat up. They were in a very heavily planted 29 gallon. The beat up small one went into my 55 gallon and loved life.
  4. For 10 hours you will be fine. It's nice that you care for your fish so much.
  5. I recall Cory being disappointed with the "new" tabs, what is different from the old tabs?
  6. I had a 110 gallon i filtered with one large sponge filter. I had live plants and it was medium stocked. I used a powerhead on the sponge filter.
  7. I would go to petco with 50 bucks and buy a new tank. Just me.
  8. Yes. Water sprite is on the right. And you are correct about the algae, I just have too much right now.
  9. I started at 16 years old. My best friend had 5 tanks and an outdoor pond and was totally geeked about fish. This started rubbing off on me. I got a 55 gallon which turned into a 110 gallon within a couple of years.
  10. I would get one rated for the 55 for the extra flow...if you want that. Also, you may decide to eliminate one or both of the sponge filters in the future. However, that's just me.
  11. I have used Fluval canister filters in the past. They are not "modern" looking but if you keep them clean they look ok....I used automotive interior detailer to keep them black. As far as noise, 30 years of guitar playing and too much loud music has taken its toll on my ears....so they were quiet to me. Why are you adding a canister filter? 2 large sponges should be enough. Just curious.
  12. Water sprite and Octopus plant takes up 90%. The sword is growing and sending out a shoot. I will be harvesting some of the sprite and octopus plant for my 55 gallon. I need to get algae under control in my 55 first.😔
  13. I have a medium pre-filter on my aquaclear 50 and love it. It is closed on the end....the hole doesn't go all the way through.
  14. No fish yet. Just a few bladder snails I have been hunting.
  15. I purchased and love the fluval 3.0. It is app controlled and dimmable to help fend off algae.
  16. I have had good luck with Purigen. It works particularly well removing tannins.
  17. A fine sponge filter has a larger surface area resulting in more biological filtration. Just clean it regularly to keep efficiency up.
  18. I had a medium stocked heavily planted 55 gallon that had only top offs over a year. I finally did a water change just because...
  19. I had 12 kuhli loaches in my 55 gallon. They stay under decorations until lights off....so they don't take up much room and little biological load.
  20. Note to self... wash hands before putting them in the tank. 🙂
  21. I like fast growers like water sprite and the octopus plant.
  22. I use a sponge filter powered by a aquaclear powerhead on my 55 gallon and have it in one corner. I had to put a HOB on the other side because I have plants and a large piece of wood in the middle blocking the flow. If you want sponge filters, I would add one to the other corner. Just my opinion.
