  1. I try to find ways to lash roots to wood, or jam epiphytes into gaps or intersections in wood.
  2. I have not heard any reports of that happening. It should be fine. I try to put in wood pieces big enough that they emerge from the surface of the water.
  3. I think wood is great to use with higher pH water, and I use it in all my tanks. I enjoy the tannins and they mellow a bit with the age of the wood. PS, your tank looks really nice!
  4. You could also get one custom cut at a local glass shop, and have them chamfer the edges. If your LFS has a spare parts bin, you might be able to pickup a hinge so you can run a two-piece lid.
  5. In my first YT video, where I setup my outdoor tubs, there was a point where I sliced apart a huge Amazon Sword cluster, and trimmed the roots before planting. I presented it as a premier, and I remember Candi saying, “don’t cut it!” Most of the cut AS rotted over the summer. 20% survived by the time I moved everything indoors. Doh! I won’t forget that!
  6. My comfort movies are the Hobbit and LOTR movies. My favorite movie is probably Blade Runner, and I try to wait as long as possible between each re-watch. My favorite movie for the hobby is the Martian. I would want to be a botanist if I were stuck on Mars.
  7. I need to measure the two countertops available, so I can watch the free or cheap posts to upsize his tank.
  8. I removed the new tall piece of wood, and brought back the previous piece, but not in the same way. Now the tank looks cozy.
  9. I finished Tenet. This is the Christopher Nolan origin film.
  10. You can enjoy growing plants in all sorts of tanks, but not everything will fit when fully grown. @AtomCatMatt is right about about Jungle Vallisneria, and you could say the same about Amazon Sword. I also avoid stem plants in most of my tanks, because I don't have time to trim and replant.
  11. I almost got Sam a free 125 from a neighborhood forum, but I wasn't fast enough.
  12. I added a new piece of Mopani wood, and fed some more brine shrimp. I made a big mess, but it should clear up. I will add more wood when I move the previous piece to my parents' tank. This is the one tank where I don't feel bad about making changes.
  13. How about the fat collection scene from that movie! I’ve never tried making soap, but I tried making candles out of bacon grease as a kid. Maybe it would have worked with a better wick than the string that I used.
  14. Thanks for the support and help, @KoolFish97! The intake pipe system has been problematic since it was too shallow, so I went back to the original green intake, and spliced on some tubing to get all the way to the bottom. I also stacked three rocks to make a platform for a hang-on-back filter to go inside. Hopefully this will be reliable. The librarian also gave me a cool piece of Mopani wood, which is about a foot tall!
  15. First time feeding brine shrimp. I also topped off the water and salt to try to keep this batch for a little bit longer.
