    It's feeding on the silicates leaching into your aquarium. You can clean it off, do water changes, deploy otocinclus and/or nerite snails, or just let it run its course. It'll go away.

    Can vallisneria live a life as a floating plant? If not, how long can you float it without melting it? Running out of substrate space but trying to accumulate enough plants to make the trip to the LFS worthwhile.

    The aqueon versa top hinges are not glued on, and it just takes a little bit of force to pull the glass out of the grooves. Just do it carefully on a soft surface or you might do what I did to the top on my 29 gallon.

    I typically hatch a tsp and do one big feeding in my 20G endler colony, 10g platy grow out, 40g live bearer mosh pit, and a bit for my pseudomugils, white clouds, and betta. Occasionally I'll hatch a larger batch and freeze them in little cube molds, so I can feed more than once a day, or when I'm too lazy to do a hatch.

    Probably not that much, depends on how large I guess. I know some companies have free freight shipping if you spend a certain amount (thousands). It's going to cost several hundred to ship something large. When I was sourcing my 90 gallon, I found one place where I could get the custom tank built and sent for just a hair more than I paid for the glass. I opted to do the build myself since the savings was minimal and I wanted the diy experience.

    I spent $600 on half-inch glass just to make my 90-gallon. I needed custom dimensions for the space, but even if I didn't, the options around here for buying anything bigger than a 55 are pretty sparse. Petco never has the 75, regardless of whether their sale is going or not. I can get the full 75g marineland kit at petsmart, and that's it. I don't have a clue how I'd go about getting an aquarium larger than that around here. Just doesn't seem to be a market for it. Listings for used aquariums are always people selling their 30s and under for way too much, so I envy those folks who find some ancient 200-gallon tank on Craigslist, even if it needs a full reseal. Next time, I think I'll just use a custom aquarium company and take a road trip with a u-haul.

    Ah OK. I have an fx6 on my heavily planted 90gallon, and the big aquarium coop prefilter is a must. I can go a while without cleaning it too. Tons of plant matter on it right now, mostly moss, and I still have great flow.

    I remember you saying that in another thread, and I'm curious what you mean. I always assumed plants had a positive effect on controlling the bioload. What happened in this case?

    Light or no light has not changed my hatch rate (as you said, assuming it's not for heat).

    I'll just share one of my 9 tanks, with the biggest change. October 2019... Colorful gravel, Petsmart ornaments with no cohesive theme, and an assortment of plants to see what might grow. October 2020... Same fish, new look. I have some things figured out now, but still very much a work in progress. EDIT: it wasn't until seeing the old photo again that I realize how much those ornaments have lost color over time. The later photo does have a different, brighter light, but still.

    Here's the rest of my wood pieces. Two in my pleco grow out. This one will not sink. It's been a couple weeks now. Live bearer tank, where a few pleco fry escaped while transferring them out of the breeder box.

    Cool theme. How often do we look at our tanks from the top down? Well, most of mine have a lot of surface agitation anyway, except for my betta tank.

    I'm enjoying my live-bearer growouts, finding new patterns all the time. I especially like seeing the endler/guppy hybrids: Lots of interesting platy colors in there too: I have another tank with pure endlers: I have about 30 of these in another tank ready to go to the fish store soon:
