  1. I have never owned neocaridinia shrimp before, but what I can tell you is that the API Test Strips are very unacurate, I would go for the API Master Test Kit or the Tetra Test Strips.
  2. No, because they have round and very fat bellies. So they must be eating something, I just dunno what they have been eating.
  3. I got these upside down catfish from my lfs a little more then a week ago. They havent eaten once. The guy at the LFS said they will anything. But mine wont even come out for feeding, I have tried feeding them at night, and they still wont even take a nibble. I have tried frozen blood worms both at night and during the day, but they dont even awknowlodge that there is any food in the tank. Any tips to get these guys to eat?
  4. Plants usaully die back when you first get them, simply cut the leaves off and it will grow them back.
  5. I quarintine and only medicate the fish that show symptoms. Unless their wild caught then I will treat for internal parasites and worms.
  6. I dont think it matters if you dose it at night or at day. I would dose once in the morning and then dose again in the evening.
  7. I had a corydora who did the same thing. I wouldn't worry about it as what @Paul mentioned its perfectly normal
  8. I had a black beard algae problem and got a bristlenose pleco, he ate it all within a week. Amano Shrimp will help, as well as what you mentionded SAE will work too. Snails will work really well too, if you dont want a explosion of baby snails get nirite snails they will lay eggs, but the eggs will only hatch in brackish water.
  9. A giftcard to his local fish store or to aquarium co-op can go a LONG way.
  10. An aripima would be sick, I will probably never own one unless I win the lottery and can somehow afford the HUGE pond they need, or the food bill that will cost more then average teenage boy.
  11. once you condition the water with the chosen water conditioner you can put the water in the tank right away, you do not need to wait overnight
  12. Asian Arowana, I am not keeping one now because... -Way too expesnive at the moment -Dont have the space for oned -Its it Legal where I live
  13. I have been intersted in keeping some multi fasciitis shell dwellers. I have a few questions that I cant seem to find online, Is a 5 gallon okay to keep them in? If so how many? (I know they will reproduce) What do I feed them? Where do I get their shells?
  14. check craigslist and websites like that, you can find some killer deals, and there is probably a 120+ for sale in your area.
  15. After that trim, the scape is more then lovely. If you are re placing the substrate, yeah I would remove the fish. But if not, I would drain the water to a few inches and they will be stressed, but fine in the long run.
  16. I perfer the look of topless tanks. All though I guess it depends on the fish you plan on stocking
  17. Love the scape, the corydoras and threadfins will look great in that!
  18. glass tanks and acrylic tanks usually wont matter when they are smaller tanks (under 120 gallons) Acryllic Tanks are lighter Glass are heavier I would not buy a big aquarium such as corys 800gallon and have it be glass. There arent many differnces but many smaller aquariums are made of glass. I would not get the cheap aquarium kits, they are cheap for a reason. I had a tetra 10gallon one and it bursted, unfortantley many people had the same problem with the tetra kits as I did. Aqueon have good tanks, and can be found at most big box pet stores As far as filtering: Sponge Filters Pros Very cheap, great for breeding tanks and quarintine tanks, good for nano tanks (under 30 gallons). Cons Only offers one step filtration, very limited to stocking number, may not have the best asthetic appeal, can be very loud Hang on Back Filter (HOB) Pros Can offer multiple step filtration, can be used for bigger tanks (150 gallon and below), can be very quiet Cons May not always turn back on after a power outtage Good HOB Filters include, AquaClears, Seachem Tidals
  19. cory says it doesn't stain. In my experciance API Super Ich Cure does stain.
