  1. The only few african cichlids that can go in a 30 gallon would be something like a Yellow Lab and other smaller mbunas. Also shell dwellers would do well
  2. Sometimes I look at one of my angelfish after a feeding (he's still a juvinille) and his stomach will be like on the verge of explosion. lol. Thats the problem with angelfish in community tank because they will eat all the food before the other fish can even relize I dropped food in. lol
  3. I rarely ever do the water in your mouth method, because I kinda get discusted from it. So I do it the aquarium co-op way, and then when I do a drip line acclimation I will just get my gravel vac create a siphon and get a kink in it. Heres a link to the co-ops way of gravel vaccing As for the gloves I have never worn gloves when mainting an aquarium.
  4. Heres what mine looks like: SUNDAY - Pellets/ Flakes MONDAY - Pellets/ Flakes TUESDAY - Fluval Bug Bites WEDNESDAY - Waterchange Wednesday, Feeding Pellets/ Flakes THURSDAY - Day of rest (fasting all fish) FRIDAY - Frozen Foods Friday (blood worms, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, etc.) SATURDAY - Pellets/ Flakes I will throw in some live black worms and Baby Brine Shrimp as a treat every now and again. Do you feed once or twice a day or more?? I only feed once a day.
  5. I have heard of many people sucking in water, and swollawing it no problem. One time I was siphoning out my betta tank and did the suck in method, and sucked some in. Turns out that fish had ich (uh-oh). But no problem I wasn't sick, and the betta only needed one does of meds because I caught it so early on.
  6. most of my tanks are "overstocked" but I like to keep foating plants to keep the nitrites and stuff low. I just do waterchanges regularly like once a week, so I don't usaully test my water unless something is up with my fish.
  7. I only test my water when it looks like my fish are stressed or something like
  8. I don't test my water before waterchanges, I do waterchanges when I feel like it. its usaully on Waterchange Wednesday or Thursday.
  9. How big was your water changes? what are your nitries at?
  10. I wish i was, the past month or so, I have dealt with fin rot, pop eye, and ich. I was able to treat the finrot and the ich but unfortuanltey not the pop eye. I look at these postiviley though, if I successfully treat I can tell other people how to treat it, and I'm now more experianced with that disease.
  11. hey, I'm a canadian fish keeper meaning that most websites will only ship fish to the USA and not me. Any canadians out there that have good sources for fish online. Aqua huna is good, but sometimes I'm not looking for a group of fish, but like one or two of that species. Aqua Bid is alright, but most of the time you also have to buy th fish in groups.
  12. African Cichlids in a communtiy tank isn't gonna work well. This is a fish where you can't just decide to add a new fish one day. You have to get multiple so the cichlids won't put all of their agression on that one fish. You can do south american cichlids in a community tank but not african cichlids.
  13. it depends what your stocking it with. Heres what I would do filtration wise with a 125gal: -Canister Filter (The fluval fx4, fx6 are great filters, only problem is they are expensive and are a bit overkill) - Two Tidal 75 Hang on Backs Cansiter Filters are better in my opinion and there are lots more kinds of canister then the fluval fx4, fx6.
  14. Plants can live 7-8 days (maybe more) with out light. So I would be guessing around the 10ish maybe 12ish day mark.
  15. adding the endlers is a great idea! but watch out for babies, cuz they will be coming with all of those live beares.
  16. I'm not a african cichlid guy, but I think yellow labs would look great in there
  17. African Cichlids are definatley on my "fish bucket list". I like how their not like other fish, where you can simply add in a fish whenever you want. My favorites are the Yellow Labs and Peacocks. They are some of the most gorgeous fish in the freshwater aquarium hobby.
  18. Its not as fast as the duck weed, but its still a weed so still somewhat fast
  19. Silvertip Tetras are fin nippers, so nothing with long fins. Some Celestrial Pearl Danios would be nice, with a gourami as a feature fish.
  20. In most of my aquariums I have a feeding ring full of floating plants, this helps contain the plants to one spot so its not covering the entire tank. I don't like duck weed because of how small it is. But amazon frogbit is great! Guppy grass is nice to, but... doesn't have a very nice asthetic look to it.
