Trying to keep a good algae clean up crew in my planted 125 bala tank. I currently have 10 otos, and I have 2 hillstream loaches on the way. My main problems are the fact that I have really hard water with lots of phosphates so it’s nearly impossible to keep the algae at bay even with lots of co2. The otos only eat certain algae and the balas eat all the pond snails. If I get big enough snails like mystery snails for instance will the balas try to eat them? Also same question with Amano shrimp, will they get big enough the balas won’t eat them? My balas currently are pretty young, they range in size from 4” to 1.5”

Hey all, Happy summer. I was wondering if anyone had experience with the tetra glofish, a bala, and compatibility with any shrimp. I would love to have some little squirts around to clean. There are plenty of places to hide for them if I get them but see conflicting information based on what I have looked up. Thanks for any help!

Hi there, I started noticing the scales on the side of one of my Bala Sharks start raising about a week ago. Thought maybe he got in a bit of a tussle with another fish and suffered a wound. However, it has now grown into this mess on his side. I’ve started a treatment of Melafix for a bacterial infection but I’m unsure if I see results yet. Any ideas as to what this is/what I can do to heal it? He’s acting normal and eating, but now has this on his side. Water Parameters: PH: ~7 Nitrates: ~15 Hardness:~11 Nitrites: ~.25 Ammonia: 0 (just did 50% water change, did not check before doing weekly 50% change) Water Temp: 79 Degrees Any help is appreciated, Jon
