  1. Love it! It was a nice way for me to wake up as well with that super chill soundtrack. That shrimp… is huge! @6:56 Your garden in the corner of the second tank is very nice. The cory babies look nice & healthy (and cute).
  2. Did my water change on Geppetto’s tank today, still using the “tea water”. This is all that’s left of the crinum, back by the sponge filter. Man, was it glorious when it first went in the tank. I gave it a tug and it seems to have rooted itself so that’s promising. I wonder if it minds being so close to the heater? Geppetto remains involved in the water change and plant trimming process. I have to be careful if I’m using the scissors. He’s so curious about what’s going on in his domain. Also I kicked up a detritus worm and it started squiggling and free swimming like crazy. Geppetto stalked it, charged at it, and CHOMP! And that was the end of that. It was EPIC! Sorry the photos are hazy. The dust hasn’t settled yet. I replaced his leaf with a floating one to see if he will bubble nest again.
  3. Someone posted on @TheSwissAquarist journal that shrimp are egg nannies and keep the eggs clean of fungus.
  4. No, I don’t believe so. Plenty with seasickness though! This video was taken by my friend Patty. The latter part of the video shows the light diffusion I was referring to where sometimes rainbows can be seen. 3:25 light diffusion 3:35 school of mullet 3:43 alligator gar 3:58 manatees (not an every day occurrence, by the way)
  5. This is the first part of the dive. This area/crevice is called the headspring. Some free divers took this video. Trust me, it’s a real challenge at the bottom, as the current coming out of the vent is so strong that I had to hold my mask on my face with my hand. They got some nice footage here. Also if divers look hard enough, there are fossils to be seen in the walls. It was here in the head spring that I completed the color card drills, as well as my deep cert, which is part of Advanced Open Water. @nabokovfan87 Advanced has 4 parts: Deep, Search & Recovery, Underwater photography, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. At least those are the parts I took. There are others than can be selected by students. They get to pick from a list.
  6. I don’t believe pressure plays a factor. Hence our flashlights operated properly. There is a shallow spring run I dive in and the sun casts a bunch of rainbows through the surface of the water and onto the plants and sand below. It’s a cool dive. Lots of alligator gar; the occasional manatee will show up if the weather is cool.
  7. I played with different light settings. I think the light has to be shining directly on his side to see the greens. Or it may relate to light diffusion. Night diving is similar. Different colors disappear at different depths in the daytime but since divers are using only a flashlight at night, we see the true colors of the fish and corals. One fun part of advanced training was taking a color card and watching it as I descended to see how it changed. Red is first to go. It completely disappears off the card. Some Other colors stayed but were muted. Hygger
  8. This happened to me; a tank had water coming out drop by drop at the seam, about halfway up the glass. I did the paper test, where I could slide the piece of paper under the corner & middle. I evicted the residents before it got worse. Two things I don't mess with - compromised tanks and faulty heaters. If you can resolve the issue by leveling the stand, I would try that. I leveled my one stand by putting a wooden stir-stick (the kind you get with a can of house paint) under the one corner.
  9. The shrimps are doing well. I vacuumed the other day, but I'm getting smarter. I let the stuff settle to the bottom of the bucket and then I put the same water carefully back in. The parameters are fine. I don't know how to lower the crazy gH that I have though. There is another filter in there now to help w/ the excess mulm that seemed to be neverending. I haven't gotten my water test back yet to get the calcium and magnesium readings, but maybe I will this week, probably after the holiday.
  10. Eh. I do this all the time and don’t get a film. I take them out at the 24 hour point though. I will say though, my waterline is dropped. So some agitation comes from the sides of the baffle. Not much, but some.
  11. Haha that’s cool. Mom & Dad, if you need me I’ll be down in the command center. 🙂
  12. Hmm. I got my baffle before @TeeJay and I’ve never seen a film. I have 2 airstones going.
  13. While I don’t know what it is, I can tell you that some people remove film by laying paper towels on the water surface and then picking them back up.
  14. Fish hideout? Fish hut? Camp Fish? Secret Fish Lair. The Fish Cave. The Underground Fish Club. Fish Clubhouse. Fort Fish. Fish Bunker. The Aqua Chamber. Davey Jones Locker
  15. I can’t tell who is laying the eggs! Is it a gold snail or a magenta snail? They do it in secret when I’m asleep. I need to make sure they are magenta ones. Did you know @TeeJay just hatched some! He’s got a journal going. Here’s some photos from my last hatch.
