Well, I made a mistake today. Got in too much of a hurry in the morning and forgot to feed Geppetto. Came home and found he had shredded the heck out of his tail. 😢 I wish this dude wasn't so self destructive! OMG

Mystery snail eggs & inverts journal
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to Chick-In-Of-TheSea's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Oh actually - they are getting blue light every day. The Hygger is on 24/7 mode, it goes orange sunrise, white daytime, blue moonlight. The brightness auto adjusts several times during the day as well. Starts dim to gently wake them, clicks up brightness maybe 2-3 times, this occurs on the sunrise. The daylight goes dim, brighter, brightest, brighter, dim; and the moonlight goes bright, dim, dimmer, off.- 1,895 replies

FLFishChik’s Pea Puffer Journal
Chick-In-Of-TheSea replied to FLFishChik's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
Yep and you will not want to move plants or share nets between the tanks. The bladder snails float, they like to skim the surface, upside down, and it’s so easy to transfer one if you’re not careful. I did a test strip the other day and I looked down to read it and 2 juvenile bladder snails were clinging to my finger. Are all those little dots the snails??- 97 replies

My gang likes zucchini, cucumber, (agree cukes have low nutrition- they are occasional foods, like if I’m making a salad, I may “share”) Also pumpkin, cabbage, sweet potato, green beans, carrot, bell peppers They don’t like lettuce, kale, asparagus, or Swiss chard I don’t see why you couldn’t add stuff to Repashy, but I’d say make sure the ratio is mostly Repashy, so it sets properly, and add the calcium carbonate. For DIY Snello (no Repashy), I add bloodworms or brine shrimp (thawed) to the mix for protein. My snails also eat the leftover sinking fish foods and bloodworms from the bottom of my tank in addition to eating the Snello. My signature line below has the 2 methods that I have had success with. Unfamiliar with these ingredients (also pear) for aquatic snails. If I were to do a baby food one, I’d do straight green bean because they love it. Also I have heard that baby foods with Vitamin D should be avoided (not sure why but I did read that in some recipes I’ve looked at). The Repashy contains ample protein. Repashy contains gelatin. (For example, in Repashy Soilent Green it is called locust bean gum). More gelatin (Knox unflavored or agar agar) can be added to your recipe if it doesn’t set right @TCoach

Do you boil it/bake it to kill all the things and remove potential contaminants? I like all the colors. Thanks, Mother Nature!

Yep! How often? I saw the study you had posted on the reds. Indeed, the photos aren’t great. And I knew nothing about shrimp genetics going into this. I thought, “it would be fun to have shrimp” and “let’s learn how to care for shrimp,” and that was it. 😅 I also trusted the stores to sell me the right type of shrimp. Store 1 said they were selling me blue dream shrimp, and the tank was labeled that way. Store 2 sells their shrimp as “blue shrimp” and they only had 4. I took the 4 and did NOT watch them get bagged. Instead I was browsing around and looking at tanks. I couldn’t leave just one shrimp behind or something. It would be sad and feel abandoned 🥲. At the checkout counter I looked in the bag and saw that one was a clear shrimplet. I was irritated that it was a shrimplet, and I got charged full price. But I wanted to be an easy customer, and not have them rebag anything or stress critters. Also I didn’t know if all shrimplets start out as clear and develop color later… because I hadn’t had any breeding yet. So naive! (But later I learned shrimplets are more resilient than adults in a new (as in different) tank, and I had been having (occasional, random) losses before the purchase. I’m fairly certain this shrimplet survived and mated.- 1,895 replies

Technically you can change this up on the fly. My husband does this when our very immature adult group kills the NPCs.. 🙄 You could make the zombie get caught in a trap or something. You just gauge the group dynamic and the decisions as you go. I would not be good at it. I’m too structured, like checklists, etc.

@nabokovfan87 you keep better track of my shrimp than I do! 😂 I don’t think we are in the blue dream realm too much. Maybe deep blue Neo. Majority of my shrimp now are navy blue.- 1,895 replies

But where would the solid black ones have come from (?) I don’t see blue jelly on the chart. Am I missing it?
