  1. I understand that emoji emotion! LoL! It does sometimes feel like the plugs and cords and gadgets have taken over the tanks! And just when we've bought one of everything - they go wireless on us! Yeah...I haven't made that leap either. Great set up...good use of space. I imagine that top bunk is prime tank-gazing real estate. 🙂
  2. Nooooooo...leave them in! 🙂 The reason you didn't see them before is because they are yummy in a fishy's tummy. 😆 Now that nothing is gobbling them up, they are happily reproducing. They aren't harmful, but are a good sign that your tank still has life in it. That's a good thing!
  3. Woot! Woot! Looking good, @ange!!! Can't wait to see it all put together. 😉
  4. Whew...that IS a very judge-y face! I hope you kept your receipt...just in case. 😂😂😂
  5. I think we've all done those things...whether we're beginners or not! Glad every-fishy is doing well in spite of your growing pains. Congrats on the beautiful tank!
  6. I have had the same issue. The best I could figure out, it was "wasting disease". I did 2 complete rounds of Levamisole from Select Aquatics and that really helped a lot. I am still seeing some dying off, but it has dropped waaaaay off. I think some of the fish were just too far gone for the treatment to do them any good. Here's the med: Levamisole WWW.SELECTAQUATICS.COM Levamisole medication I hope that helps a little. There are others here who have used the same treatment for wasting disease too, and that's how I learned of it. Just a bit of warning, if you do the treatments, the med will very likely kill off your bacteria in your tank and you'll have to go through cycling it all over again. Mine is slowly coming out of that cloudy-clear, cloudy-clear cycle and I hope I'll be CLEAR sailing from here on out. 😉 Alesha (akconklin) P.S. By the way, your description was PERFECT! They do indeed look like eels slithering through the tank now.
  7. @Hobbit - these are SO awesome!!!!! I shared them all with my husband...the Princess Bride is "our" movie. So these just made my night! Thanks for the hard work you put into them. 🙂
  8. As a mama of a special needs kiddo (who's 20 now, but still a "kiddo" - he's non-mobile and non-verbal), I'd suggest to be sure you include something that bubbles! All children love bubbles, and they are eye catching. Often, those with brain damage have trouble with eye tracking, so the bubble will catch their eye sometimes, even if the fish don't. Maybe a bubble bar or something similar. Our tanks were started for our son, too, but unfortunately, he just isn't interested in them. LoL! I know! How rude, right?! 😆 But we discovered how soothing and interesting and relaxing they are to US and so we continue. You may find that the parents also enjoy the tank very much. I know for sure they are so appreciative of this blessing you are giving to their family. ❤️
  9. I was sitting using a hair pick dipping out duckweed. Same difference??? 😆😆😆
  10. I know that Black Beard Algae can. I've removed it from leaves quickly & they recover; but I've also let it stay on too long & even when I cleaned it off, the leaves died.
  11. I thought I'd show off a few things our friend 3D printed for us. These hooks were brilliant. Just super-glued them on the inside of the door of the aquarium stand. This little moss dome was so cute, but I thought instead of gluing the moss on the top, I'd stuff it inside the dome. I'm hoping it will start growing out all the little holes. I call it my "BioDome". 😆 And this little plant basket was an uh-oh. I forgot to tell my friend that my tank has a rim. These were planned for a rimless tank. So...I popped off the little hooks and added/glued in 2 suction cups. They hold my pothos really great and even a stem of lucky bamboo too! I still have other goodies that I haven't had time to get to. I'll share them when I do! 🙂 Alesha (akconklin)
  12. Thank you, @Daniel. This answer is amazing. And I've had to mull it over to understand some of it. I did have to look up "rotifers", as I wasn't familiar with the term. My water never gets as hazy or chunky as yours appears to be, so I'm guessing it's probably not a delicacy for baby fry at this point in time. My lights are on for a good part of the day and I do feed quite a bit, but it's just the snails, loach and barbs, so really not too many mouths to feed. (The other tank has hundreds of guppies. Feeding that tank is compleeeeetely different than this one!) So, that's why mine clears up with water changes, I guess, because I'm getting rid of some of the phytoplankton. And it's probably if I'm overfeeding that I notice the green "growing". I think I understand now. I appreciate your time and your thorough explanation. Thank you. Alesha (akconklin)
  13. Chanting quietly "Do it! Do it! Doooo iiittt! 😆
  14. Oh my goodness! So sorry for your soggy mess. My husband tripped & knocked over a 5-gallon bucket filled with fish, plants, sponge filter, etc. when we were rescaping our tank 2 weeks ago. I. Feel. Your. Pain 😔😭😣
  15. Super-glued duckweed.🙄😁😆
  16. What is this beauty? I was wondering that too! Gorgeous fish!
  17. Great thread! Love the new insert from Cory. So classy. 😎
  18. I have a 20 long tank that runs a little green. And by little, I mean, there's always a little tint to the water, but never cloudy. The water is always fairly clear and I've not had blooms that I've noticed. Usually, if the tint gets a little greener than I'm happy with, we just do a 25-50% water change, limit the light for a day, and it's all good. The tank has run this pattern for several months. A little background on the tank, it's only housed a red-tail botia loach and rams horn snails regularly for several months. There has been the odd crooked-spine guppy now and then until a few weeks ago. I run 2 medium sponge filters in it. I've added 2 squirts of Easy Green the last 3 Mondays. 2 weekends ago, we added some substrate (aquarium gravel) and crushed coral, and added some driftwood. We also removed some potted plants and added some other planted plants. And we added 13 Green Tiger Barbs (who'd spent over 3 weeks in the medicated QT tank). The light is new. It's a Nicrew ClassicLED Gen 2 and I keep in at 50% white lights only and it's on for 10-11 hours a day. I've noticed the last couple of days, it's been the slightest bit cloudy. Not like a bloom, but just not crystal clear like usual. Parameters: Ammonia - 0 Nitrates - 10 Nitrites - 0 GH - 200 Chlorine - 0 KH - 100 pH - 7.6 Temp 76* So what makes the water green? And check out the video. That is at 8x magnification on my Galaxys10e Pro Video. That is definitely lots of life teeming in the water. Any idea what that is? And you're welcome for the close up of a rams horn snails' egg clutch. At more magnification, you can see each egg in its little pouch...quite amazing! I appreciate y'all's input! Thank you for reading. Alesha (akconklin)
  19. Wow. I've got tons of assassins in my tank, but I've never seen that coloration either. I'll be interested to see if you find a concrete answer. They are really something!
  20. I think it's a fabulous idea! Let us know how it turns out. 🙂
  21. This is so great! So creative, @TheDukeAnumber1 👍😊
  22. Unfortunately, as I’m in Canada, I can’t order from aquarium co-op and am forced to go online for almost everything. Tomorrow I will be making the drive into the nearest town and see if I can find a cheap one. I have discovered what the problem with the broken one was, and a family friend will attempt to fix for me. We’ll see which happens first. Ugh...bummer! Here's to hoping you can find one at good price or that you're friend comes through for you. 🙂👍
  23. Very nice upgrade - it's a beautiful tank! Welcome to the forum. We're glad to have you here!
