  1. Dang, 40? and they are still being aggressive? Well, that just a bummer. ๐Ÿ˜ž
  2. Same thing is happening in my 75g tank, I started with 16 Tiger Barbs (small healthy ones from Aqua Huna). Now, I am down to 11 or 12. Just noticed last week one with a missing tail. Then yesterday I see there are at least 4 with damaged tails. Their tank mates are 3 platies, 8 Siamese Algae Eaters, and one....ahem.. demasoni cichlid. None of them are missing tails. Very Frustrating. Thinking of trying to breed them. I guess the Male that is left will be the father... ๐Ÿ™„
  3. Okay, I have one female demasoni cichlid in my 75g with a lot of platy's. Im hoping she will cull the platy fry in the tank. Still in beta test mode now, BUT my question is.... She has stopped eating for the past 5 days, and is hiding more. She looks like she is holding fry in her mouth, but there is not a male in the tank for her to spawn with. Please see video let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!
  4. @Patrick_G Well... I put that in after they were big enough to keep away from it. I would turn it off if/when there are any new tiny fry. Or maybe zip tie some coarse filter media around it. Not sure if that would work. I do have the nano pump. Its a lower flow pump and works perfect in the 75g for surface agitation. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/equipment/products/koralia-nano-circulation-pump
  5. Update: 07/11/21 Microbubbles. They suck. The cause? Maybe the HOB with the Bamboo plant, a bag of crushed coral, and some coarse sponge. Thinking this might be the cause? Its that or the sponge filter. Uggh OH, I have some Frogbit I gathered up with some air tubing around the top cypress knee. I decided on Discus, but waiting to catch up on bills before I drop that kind of $$. I live in FL so I will buy small ones from Jack Watley.
  6. Hi my fish people and Nerms! Its been a struggle but the 75g Tank is almost dialed in. Water tests are good! Plants are starting to fill in. I do have a cloudy water issue though, I think it's from bubbles. I moved everything from a 29g to this 75g and it did not go well. Lost all of my Platy's 30+ (there were lots of fry) except 3 female adults. But, one had given birth after the move and these fry have all survived. So I still have 30+. Sadly, I had to give half of fry to LFS for feeders and will probably have to do the same for most of the rest. There are just to many. ๐Ÿ™ Anywho, I've been dialing in the filter situation., I had two HOB's and replaced them with 2 large sponge filters. But I decided to keep one HOB for crushed coral to buffer PH and hold the bamboo plant ๐Ÿ™‚ I added. So I have one HOB and one SF. (prolly to much but oh well) I still cannot decide if I want Angels or Discus. I need something for Platy population control!! ๐Ÿ  I removed the second SP tonight and I hope that will solve the cloudy water issue. To many bubbles. TLDR: Fish tank doing GOOD ๐Ÿ‘ See pretty pictures! ๐Ÿ˜œ Beggars ๐Ÿฆ Bamboo Plant in HOB with modified lid. ___________________________________________________________________________________ THE OLD 29g Thanks for reading and looking!! ๐Ÿ’™
  7. Ha!! I got so busy with life and such, I forgot I posted this! Thanks @lefty o I appreciate ya!
  8. Hi all! I am replacing my HOB with Large sponge filters on my 75. How long do I wait before I can take off my HOB. I have 2 Sponge filter in the tank for one week now. And 2 HOB's. One HOB has crushed coral, so Ill be keeping that and maybe just have one Sponge filter. Thanks for any advice!
  9. @Hobbit That is the same gravel I had in the 29... Wow....Okay... well, I guess if all else fails, I will replace gravel. Deep down I though I might be making a mistake with HD gravel. ๐Ÿคจ Thanks again!
  10. @Hobbit First, thank you for the compliment and the advice. ๐Ÿ’› My 29 I used gravel from petco, what ever brand... made for aquariums. I used the Vigiro landscape gravel from HD in the 75. I then put the gravel from my 29 on top in the 75. I did post on a local area FB aquarium enthusiast page and another local said they had to use crushed coral for PH issues. Ordering, calcium carbonate and crushed coral now.
  11. That is a great idea! I am going to replace my HOBs with Sponge filters, but I will keep one for the crushed coral. Brilliant! As far as PH.... no idea... Only changes from the 29 to 75 was: 1. Gravel from HD box store. The gravel was amazingly dirty. I washed it 3 times in the week before I set up the tank. Maybe I should not have used that gravel. 2. I added another cypress knee that I purchased from same etsy vendor as the other in the 29. I have removed new one now. Not sure if Cypress effects PH. 3. I added that Universal Rock back ground I got on amazon. I Installed with GE 100% Silicone. Anywho, Thanks @Fish Folk I appreciate your advice. Wait! I did a 50% water change last night. Maybe that was the cause of low PH. Ill test again tomorrow. GOSH there are so many things that could happen. Uggh! This 75 is a huge learning experience for me. The 29 dialed itself in perfectly. I had no problems with it.
  12. In November I set up a 29g. PH was a pretty constant 7.6. 4 Weeks ago I moved it all into a 75g and my PH has been dropping. It is now 6.6 and I checked the tap, and its at 6.4. I never tested the tap water before now, my bad. In 2020 county water quality pamphlet states, "ECUA adds Calcium Hydroxide (lime) for pH adjustment; Phosphoric Acid for corrosion control in the distribution system and home plumbing; and Chlorine for disinfection. Fluoride, added at select wells, helps prevent tooth decay." Same as every other year. Oh and KH has always been low, Like 53.7 ppm with the API kit. It was 35.8 ppm today. Guess I need to buy crushed coral. Do I really need 7.5 lbs for my 75g? Thanks again y'all.
  13. OH yeah, @anewbie I ordered the Nano Pump, (powerhead) for circulation. I have Platy's and once I get the tank where its not making my fish sick, (Med treatment in progress) I plan to add Angelfish. Thanks for your help!
  14. Oh yes, I should have motioned that I do plan to replace One HOB at a time. ๐Ÿ‘ The real reason I want to change out the HOB is that I worry that one will overflow and or somehow leak. It will happen that one time I don't check them. ๐Ÿ˜ LOL I do like the AquaClear HOB, I would keep them if the tank was in the garage or a basement with a floor drain. Thanks for all y'alls input! I appreciate it!
  15. I have 2 AquaClear 50's on my new 75g. I'm really tempted to replace them with 2 large sponge filters. Also looking at Nano circulation pump...... I have 480 gpm that is way to much. IDK I wanna do it, but do I neeeeeeeed to? LOL Im thinking I can afford to do it, so just do it. Okay, I talked myself into it. Tank does not look as good now. Lost some fish and running meds as I some how managed to introduce "something" in my tank, so I'm working on that now.
