Also, on the first day: @Brandy and @Augustjd27. Luckily Brandy is a West Coast person so she won't notice I missed her in the first list. 🙂 And @Augustjd27 gave me my first reply and first reaction back on day 1.

The biggest misconception in all of aquaria - ammonia
Daniel replied to tonyjuliano's topic in General Discussion
Any ammonia can be traced back to nitrogen. Even though the majority of the air we breathe is composed of nitrogen, it is not of the type that will dissolve in a usable form in water. But nitrogen is a key component of proteins. Proteins are made from chains of amino acids. The 'amino' in amino acids is nitrogen. Many high quality fish foods are high in protein. So when we feed our fish we are putting nitrogen in our aquariums. It doesn't matter whether the fish eat it or not. Eventually bacteria in the tank convert nitrogen through its various forms until it is consumed by plants and made into more plants. Or gets removed by water changes. -

The biggest misconception in all of aquaria - ammonia
Daniel replied to tonyjuliano's topic in General Discussion
There are issues with members using the forum to give other members free or paid for items. The purpose of the guideline isn't about competing with the Co-Op. The purpose is to keep the Forum out of transactions the Forum isn't currently set up to handle and doesn't want to have responsibility for. This might change in future, but hasn't been implemented yet. There is nothing in the posting that is enhanced by giving away gift cards. Therefore I believe is fair to ask Tony to keep to the same rules as every other member of the Forum are required to follow. -

I put the 'good photos' tag on this thread because I frequently need good photos when creating thumbnails for new posts and this thread is good source for that.

Petco 5 gallon bucket well all 5 gallon buckets
Daniel replied to Leo2o915's topic in General Discussion
In the hardware store buckets I use for making up food for my honeybees, the 5 gallon mark is all the way to the top. If I try and fill 5 one gallon jugs with from a bucket that is a couple of inches down from the top, this is what I get: -
I am happy to do a highlights thread.

The bees get thirsty this time of year, and the floating mat of duckweed keeps the girls from drowning.

Let @James Black do it, he has lots of enthusiasm!

It wouldn't bother me. At the lease the temperatures will be stable.🙂

That makes sense. The Apex is a little more than $3 dollars. 🙂

I use a Neptune Apex: A little pricey, but very reliable and customizable.

If I can move water and plants from another aquarium I have always had a good result.

Here is what young rice fish look like.

I believe it is a Synodontis eupterus. Our own @H.K.Luterman has a beautiful one called Pooka.

What's your dream aquarium product that doesn’t exist?
Daniel replied to pedrofisk's topic in General Discussion
I have recently used both the Seneye Home and the Neptune Apex. The Seneye was okay, but between the Seneye and the Neptune Apex, I much prefer the Apex for the reasons that @Streetwise mentions above.- 729 replies

Those are aphids which are not uncommon on floating plants like frogbit. They are harmless. It pretty cool that your aquarium is in an old TV. 🙂
