  1. Looking good Bill, I can't wait to see them all grown in! It would be cool to have some shrimp in one of them
  2. Whats your advice for getting to 20ppm, less water changes?
  3. I think it would be alright, the Guppies will probably appreciate the water hardness and minerals from that substrate.
  4. If you really want to crank up the Nitrate I would get a bag of dry Nitrogen fertilizer and dose that too.
  5. You could mix up a custom blend of dry ferts in water and dose that. You would just have to do the math to figure out the proper concentration. Lately I have been easing back on Nitrogen myself because I am feeding less and was getting more algae than usual. I dose NPK in a dry form. I get my dry ferts from Green Leaf Aquariums.
  6. Welcome! fellow Pennsylvanian here, about 2 hours north on the lake. Your tanks look awesome, really nice color and growth 👍 Have you ever been to Wet Pets & Friends in McMurray? That seems like a really nice shop
  7. That is a great idea. The only thing I can think of is to have the shutoff as close to canister as possible. You could even drill another hole to return the water through a bulkhead, using a loc-line nozzle to direct the flow. No real risk of back siphoning since its a closed system, just have a shutoff on each line for service. On the inlet line you could use that shutoff to do water changes, hook it up to a hose or into a bucket. Hooking it up to the Oase canister with a heater would be perfect.
  8. Impressive work, tank and stand look awesome! I'll be tempted to do this now if I see a deal on an acrylic tank
  9. The color pattern at the base of the tail reminds me of Hyphessobrycon elachys the "Reed Tetra". Either way I think normal Tetra water parameters would be fine, soft slightly acidic water. Nice looking fish I'm jealous!
  10. if you want to just buy something you could use peristaltic dosing pump.
  11. Welcome! I think the Fluval 3.0 would be money well spent. Its a highly regraded light and should last a long time for you. Heaters I've used are the Eheim Jager, Aqueon Pro, and the Finnex HMA-S. I've good luck with all those ones. Start some threads and ask any questions you have!
  12. I thought of something, a cylindrical brine shrimp hatchery with an automatic sweeper on top. It would sweep the walls of the chamber at the water line preventing the eggs from floating and sticking to the walls. The technology exists for cleaning the necks of saltwater protein skimmers, just needs adapted 🤔
  13. I definitely agree with that. It's the constant on/off cycle that kills heaters. I have titanium heaters on my controller, I'm hoping they last a long time.
  14. I've never tried dosing ammonia. I would just have patience, feed the snails, and the cycle will develop naturally without any extra effort. Nothing good happens fast in aquariums. Cory has an old video about cycling with plants 👍
  15. I have no doubt dirted tanks can be successful, I've just read as many bad things about them as good things. @Bentley Pascoe has a Youtube series coming out about planted tank substrates. I'm looking forward to hearing his conclusions on dirted tanks.
  16. They do make extension hoses for Pythons, if you didn't know
  17. I use a heater controller but not that brand. I think its worth the cost for safety and ease of use. They can require a bit of calibration to see where it actually holds the temperature. The one I have has replaceable temp probes which is nice. I like using it to control two smaller heaters in the tank instead of a single large one. Reason being if one heater fails in the ON position it will heat up the tank slower but also the controller would shut it off too. I wonder if @Cory has ever considered bring a heater controller to the market?
  18. If I had more of them I would. I may hold back some of the Lemon Tetra I have to try spawning more. I am going to breed this Serpae Tetra I have. One male in particular is a much brighter vivid orange than the others, I want to see if his color breeds true.
  19. I want a collection of the larger bodied tetras that I've never kept before. Bleeding Heart tetra, Blueberry Tetra, Diamond Tetra, Pristella Tetra, Red & Blue Colombian Tetra, Phoenix Tetra. I gave my LFS a wishlist, in fact I need to call them today and see whats on their wholesale list for this week haha
  20. I like to hang a large size Lees Specimen Container on a bucket to hold tools and stuff. This seems like a good cheap premade option. It won't interfere with anything inside the bucket and the pockets are mesh too which would allow tools to dry and not drip on the floor. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fiskars-5-Gal-Bucket-Caddy-Bucket-and-Tools-Not-Included-394240-1003/206399030
  21. Those are still my favorite Discus, what kind of corys do you have in there?
  22. MickS77

    Is this ich

I would run some erythromycin too, that looks more bacterial/fungal to me.
  23. Putting off unti it's too late 😬 testing the Nitrates in my high tech planted tank. Is there anything behind this wall of green glass?? 😅
  24. And I just placed an order today 🤦🏼‍♂️😅
  25. Yeah that should fill out the whole left side nicely 👍
