  1. And then maybe resilicone the old 55 when you are not pressured for time and have another tank to play with!😉
  2. I have an Aqueon HOB in my 55 and it is quiet. You could also do sponge filters, maybe one on each end.
  3. That’s a great description (much better than what comes with new electronic equipment 😁) and it sounds doable. I will take your advice and not try the second option.

  5. I know that certain guppies have the “metal head” and are bred to look pretty from above. Perhaps koi colored, or Dalmatian platties would show up nice from above too? They seem to have a silvery glint to the white coloring on them.
  6. And what fun possibilities come with that option!!😂
  7. A 40 breeder is 3 feet wide and 16” tall. The important piece is that it is 18”deep. There is more turnaround room for a large amphibian. The 55 is four feet wide and it is 21” tall. So yes it is bigger, but you have farther to reach to feed them their worms and 12” front to back does not give an 8-10” Axolotl as much room to blast off as they will from time to time, if they get excited or startled. And depending on what objects you want to put in the tank with them, 12 inches gets clogged up pretty quick so they will have even less room to get through. Does that make sense?
  8. We all know that goldfish like to graze all day (kinda like me). 🥴 What do you all do to keep them eating healthy? I can’t produce duckweed fast enough for my three, but I do give them some. So what I have been doing is buying frozen loose leaf spinach. And I blanch it with boiling water and give that to them almost everyday. Besides the greens, I also alternate giving them a good pellet or krill flakes or frozen brine shrimp or blood worms. But I heard somewhere that they benefit from eating orange pulp. What do you think of that? Is there a problem with feeding them as much spinach as I do?
  9. A shorter tank (as opposed to tall) makes it easier for feeding Axolotls their worms too—unless you want to get your hands in the water every time you feed them. As for finding another of the same sex, you will have to buy one that is old enough. I found three small ones on Craigslist and kept the two that were the same sex and rehomed the one male. If you get on an Axolotl forum, you can find them easier when you are ready to look.
  10. Axolotls need more floor space than water height. A 40 breeder is great for two adult Axolotls. Or a 75 if you would rather. The front to back 12” depth of a 55 is not optimal when an 8 inch long animal decides to dart when startled like they will at times.
  11. Can you get ahold of a bunch of small snails to put in there that they could eat over time?
  12. I am amazed!! Never thought a fish would learn to do something like that. It is a credit to your patience. I have worked with horses and dogs but this has been fun to watch. Thank you!😁
  13. Wow what a difference! How long did it take for his colors to change?
  14. It’s definitely a hillstream loach, but the specific variety I am not sure without looking it up. The care is the same. I have Sewellia Lineola and that is a different variety than what you have. It looks like this (please excuse the fuzzy picture).
  15. Not being able to find Fluval E series anywhere, I found a heater with good ratings for an Eheim at Petsmart. The price in store was higher but they price matched their online price for me.
  16. What a great idea!! I need to look into that.😊
  17. The nerite snail paused for a picture after reaching the summit of his rock climbing expedition.
  18. Right! The guppies go in there and the Panda Garras and the spiny eel has visited! I have one bent guppy that sneaks in behind the betta to snatch some shut eye. I see them go round and round sometimes!😂
  19. My betta didn’t spend much time in the floating log (maybe the bubbles from the sponge filter is too strong?). But when I put some fishing line through it and attached it to the quietest corner of the surface he has made it his favorite hangout.😊
  20. Thank you for explaining that to me, I didn’t know anything about this plant. The guy at my LFS gave it to me with no info. I will have to figure out how to use it best in my tank.
