could keep them in a 5$ storage bin for quarantine. 8 days is a lot though. Let us know if there's any survivors.

I was out of the house anyway so I checked my local lowes and they just had stiff vinyl tube so when I got home I ordered a python gravel vac. Price was good and the description said its the same hose as all their other products so we'll see how it goes when i get it.

Is this shrimp berried? (this is the best pic I could get with my camera.) Also, I thought Neo's had yellow eggs. If these are eggs is it okay that they're this color?

I have a big box store gravel vac and the hose it came with is really stiff. Does anyone have suggestions for replacement hose that's easier to wield and pinch off?

Thats odd. It shows up on my PC but its just jibberish on my phone. must be a forum bug. I deleted the picture and uploaded it instead of using copy paste. hopefully that works. In any case I don't see it any more so I think it was just tums dust. 😌 I'll update this thread if it comes back (I removed the tums).

Rice fish are supposed to be easy so I don't see how something counterintuitive would be necessary so maybe it's a mistranslation of negatives from japanese. That page is full of odd word choices I'll just do the water changes. Since what you say makes more sense.

I hear good things about fritz. Tetra safe start worked for me. As Joseph is implying you can always move a sponge filter over or something if you have a "seasoned" one.

Is this just a fry grow out tank? If so you can let the snails provide their service and nuke them once the fry move out.

Many people have good results, myself included. You still need to feed the bacteria so most of the makers recommend adding fish right away but you can add in a bit of ammonia or let fish food rot in there. They are by no means needed though. Plants help a lot too so if you plan on having plants add them early too. Just don't put a 90$ fish in there. I started with guppies 🙂

Oh I forgot secret option 3, which is the cheapest probably. Dilute it down to kh of 4-8 with grocery store RO/DI and then make sure you keep enough plants and low enough fish load that you don't have to do water changes very often. Then just top off evaporation with grocery store RO/DI water and fertilize as needed. Easier said than done though. At least for me, but I ain't rocket surgeon.

My sister-in-law's cat ate a ball of string. She eventually had to pull it out the other end but the cat was fine. The cat's face😬 during the "operation" was priceless🤣. I'd look for it to pass in the next day or so.

tannin from wood and things like indian almond leaves supposedly lower kh. The sure fire way is to mix in DI/RO water. you can buy that from the grocery store or get an RO setup, which is expensive.

There will be glofish (TM) that shot lasers from their eyes and coop will sell easy fish that come in a capsule. Just drop it in your tank and it turns into a fish -
Sounds like a lot to me. Its possible that the water that makes it to your house has less copper too. There's plenty of good options out there for ferts. I personally would just pick something else. If I was wed to that fert I'd do a trial with some cheap shrimp (like someone's culs) for a few weeks to a couple months.

You shouldn't be! That was amazing. Top tier video. Well communicated. Really excellent conclusion. I see lots of undergraduate presentations and that was fantastic. Also I see nothing scientifically wrong there having a bad result sucks but isn't bad science. You followed it up with what you would change next time and that is good science.

You'd probably have to cobble something together with solar panels, batteries, and a DC air pump if you want lots of air. But you'll need a big panel then too. or you could buy a lot of small commercially available ones. But after a quick google search, they look a bit cheap and all come with panels that are so small i doubt the could work 24/7. You may also want to look into exactly how much you need. It's possible you don't need much or any at all. But you didn't say your application or how deep your pond is (also I don't know how to compute it even if you told me everything 😉 ).

You can see my other post, but I thought "mystery snails" were snails of mysterious origin, not the common name for a species of snail that has a funny personality.

I'd like to have an open and honest discussion: water changes

I noticed today that my algae covered rock and the substrate area I can't gravel vac because I'm trying to establish monte carlo have tiny bubbles of gas coming up off them. I don't know how to feel about algae photosynthesizing that fast... Is this common? Tomorrow is water change day so i'm going to go at the rock with a toothbrush and maybe do some gentile vacing over the montecarlo.

I think the answer is don't do it. I have very soft water and 7.8 ph. Moving your ph around is much more stressful than just keeping it stable. fish can regulate their internal ph just like humans. Some fish are sensitive but even the allegedly sensitive fish usually do fine up to 8-8.2.

There are some but not many. The "correct" solution is to be diligent about not over feeding and your snail population will live in harmony. But when I see those hungry faces saying "please feed me way too much" I have a hard time saying no. Fish feeding is also so fun. My favorite snail eater by far is the pea puffer but they don't play nice with others so they usually have to be species only. I'm with you there! If I end up with "pest snails" I'm getting some assassins!

Snails are great amazing best thing since fish etc etc but I hate them. If you don't like snails you should look into dipping your plants. Irene did two good videos on it (the take away is alum is usually best, but not all plants can handle a dip. Besides live snails you can often get eggs hitchhiking.
