  1. I keep the tannin water either in the fridge or at room temp but I use it within 2 weeks
  2. Interestingly enough, right after this video I fed frozen brine shrimp, mainly because the tetras don't really like to bottom feed. Snoopy came up to get some and just within about a minute she started showing dark vertical charcoal/black bars. If you look at the photo just above this, quoted in @knee's post, you can see these bars and they are faint, between Snoopy's spot and her tail. There are 4. Those are the bars that she darkened. I guess she understands that the brine shrimp are very similar to a live food, and she was putting on her hunting outfit. Pretty cool. I've seen something like this before with a black neon. He was in "the hospital" for about 2 months. Symptom free, he was permitted to move back to the main tank. While he was in quarantine and while I was acclimating him back to the tank, he had very little color. When I released him, as soon as he saw his school, his black lateral line appeared right before my eyes.
  3. I use mine to change water. I had to do a calculation when initially selecting it which involved faucet flow rate, height of tank, and distance the hose needs to carry the water. The pump transports water from a bucket in my sink straight to the tank. The faucet stays on during this process, and the flow rate calculation ensures that the pump does not outpace the faucet, hence the pump does not end up out of water while running.
  4. Try vibra bites. They sink and they are a great size for the Bolivian rams.
  5. I’ve seen them on there but am not sure which 3d printing materials will withstand heat. I’ve seen some reviews of the guards melting.
  6. Special delivery! Woooo hooooo!!!! 😍😍😍 A few days ago I had to use a bucket because my pump died. HOW BARBARIC! 😱
  7. More color since Vibra Bites were introduced? What do you think?
  8. If you want to very quickly “heavily plant” a tank, Java fern. They are full, bushy plants. They don’t go into the substrate, they feed from the water column. you can just drop them all in with plant weights on them. If you then want to create an aquascape, a large piece of driftwood- and attach all the Java ferns to it with superglue GEL. You will want to boil the driftwood first and soak it in a tote before placing in the tank. Until the driftwood stops floating. The Java fern with plant weights can be in the tank in the meantime providing cover for the fish. Easy green will feed the Java fern. If you are on a tight budget, you can get get value packs of tall, fake plants. Then add live plants gradually as you can afford them.
  9. They thought you put the plants there specifically so they could pull them. 🥕
  10. I have a small Hygger 50w. It’s small but it feels pretty hot to the touch. I would like to buy a heater guard for it but don’t know what brand to trust.
  11. @nabokovfan87 I don’t know if this was posted yet or not, but .. bubble wrap! Can’t remember where I got the idea- maybe Serpa Design? Anyway I’ve been using for the past few water changes on the 5g. It’s very easy to mess up sand in a 5g so a water dispersion tool is a must And bubble wrap is great! It floats and zero substrate disturbance. Who would have know such a simple thing could be so useful? Hang it on the bucket to dry afterwards. EDIT: just noticed @Fish Folk already recommended this earlier. Great recommendation @Fish Folk!
  12. Water change for Mr. Geppetto this evening, 1 gal. Replaced what I thought was 1/5 tablespoon of salt. Fins are looking great.
  13. It’s not necessary. I just use it because I have it around but I probably wouldn’t go out and buy it. water changes will remove the medicine.
  14. Some of us do this too. You must use one unglazed, you can find it in the garden section. You may wish to consider going to a larger tank. The mystery snail has a massive bioload, and for a fish to be in there as well, it would require extra maintenance (more than once a week) or extra filtration. Otherwise their heath will suffer because it will be difficult to keep that small a volume of water of good quality. The betta will not tolerate the extra flow from a hang on back filter, and another sponge filter will take up space in the small tank. Fortunately a sponge filter is simple to move from one tank into another. Here’s what aqadvisor came up with for a 3 gallon with 1 betta and 1 mystery snail: stocking level 126% Now aqadvisor isn’t gospel or anything. It will differ based on extra filtration or a large number of live plants, frequency of maintenance etc. I recommend you go to at least a 10 gallon. It’s really doesn’t take up that much more space, and you will have an easier time maintaining it and have healthier water and creatures. Side note: the dice are cute. We still play tabletop pathfinder. But the resin is not fish safe like the resin used for store bought fish tank decorations.
  15. @Louise02 was wondering if a 10gal would be fine for the gourami, solo? @Guppysnail
