  1. I blanch zucchini and green beans to make them soft and sink then serve them in a glass petri dish to help keep them contained. After they have been in all day and overnight carefully lift the dish out and usually take a bunch of "pest" snails out in the process.
  2. He looks like he is pouting lol I had a Betta that liked to swim/jump up into the HOB filter on his tank and chill. I would panic every time thinking he managed to jump out...then I would lift the filter lid and he would wiggle back down into the aquarium. I swear he did it on purpose to stress me out.
  3. If you are running to the same tank I would think you should just be able to split it but you might want to run it through a gang valve so you can adjust each independently or you might not get even flow to both.
  4. Welcome! My sister lives in Sun City AZ. I always think that Angels look great with tall vertical narrow leafed plants to swim in and out of. Something like Vallisneria
  5. Welcome! I am also in the land of Cheese.
  6. I just added this in my Fluval Spec. The original outlet went from 1/2 inch to two 1/4 in outlets just like what you have in yours I believe. I felt like it was jetting current across the tank hitting the end and rolling. My new spray bar is all 1/2 ID and spreads the flow out more evenly. I also was having an issue with the 1/4 outlets getting plugged up a bit over time. Im hoping the larger ID helps
  7. You could do stratum in the back half and make a barrier of small rocks to keep it back there and then do sand in the front half. Or maybe island of stratum with sand around...now I want to do this.

  9. Whenever I need a HOB I grab a Aquaclear. Lots of room for custom filter media. You can get parts for them at most fish stores. Downside they sometimes dont prime on their own and you want to find a trinket to set on top of the lid to prevent rattle.
  10. The larger the tank you can provide for grow out the less demanding it will be to stay on top of water parameters etc. You will still need to do frequent water changes but the swing of dangerous levels will be easier to mitigate. If you want to keep them in a smaller area to ensure feeding etc. you could install a temporary perforated tank divider that you can shift across the tank as they grow.
  11. Im also in WI! Live Aquaria is in Rhinelander WI but I havent ordered from them yet because of shipping cost and I have good luck with my LFS Cory often mentions Twin Cities Guppies if you are looking for guppies specifically
  12. @Cory I went down the rabbit hole and kept shopping around and ended up ordering this one for $2.49 +shipping...and classic aquarist green too! 🤑
  13. Im going to have to steal this idea if i can find some small props lol
  14. @Cory looks like I can get a 20pack of the Loc-Line side flow nozzles and then buy an end cap. The only kit I found that had everything together was bright orange for CNC cutting fluid lol
  15. Thank you @Cory and @MickS77 I'll do some more digging now that I know the proper name to search under🐡
  16. How have you modified directional returns to change flow? I have a small Y shaped directional return in my tank and I was wondering if anyone makes a rain bar/ spray bar attachment that pops right on to an existing ball joint?
  17. Pizzaz pizza oven. Our apartment has a terrible oven that takes forever to preheat and the temp is super inconsistent. We make all kinds of things on our Pizzaz and its great for reheating things. Also little to no preheating depending on what you make and it certainly uses less power. The only downside is that it takes up a chunk of counter space...
  18. I just noticed this 1 inch tall hitchiker popped up in my planted tank. Is this water Wisteria(or water sprite)? It started itself in my substrate but I have seen people talk about floating it. Thoughts? Special care?
  19. What is your proudest achievement as an aquarist? I have kept a variety of sizes and styles of aquarium over the last 35ish years and still get super excited by little things. Today i added a bristlenose pleco to my planted community tank and it promptly spooked a Galaxy Rasbora fry out of hiding! This was my first time keeping and now breeding Galaxy Rasbora/ CPD. I added 4 males and 2 females to the tank a couple weeks ago and within days they were displaying and exhibiting spawning behavior. I set this tank up with no plan to breed with the mindset if anything other than the cherry shrimp breed bonus! Now to see if it makes it and see if there are any others! I will add pics if I can find the little bugger again lol Edit: While attempting to get a good pic of the one fry I knew of a second one swam into the frame! 🤩
  20. Thank you for the input everyone! I was at my LFS today and the sight of a tank full of albino longfin bristlenose made my decision for me...worth the risk! Also while it was checking its new tank out it bumped a Galaxy Rasbora fry out into the open which is the first time I have bred that species! All in all a pretty great discovery.
  21. I need to tweak the settings on my camera because its trying to focus on too many things at once but...
