  1. Idk how many people know about these prefilters but there amazing. I have one on my 20 gallon community tank. And its perfect for extra bio and mechanical filtration. The best part is is that they make three different sizes and they all fit almost any filters. The medium size one is perfect for 20 gallons IMO but the others would work just fine. If anyone is looking for some extra filtration i highly reccomend these.
  2. FilterDont get me wrong i love fluval products but they seriously dont take advice well. Just today i was looking into a gravel vac they make for the FX series of filters and i said i would buy a cheap canister filter and attach a gravel vac tube to the intake and use it on all of my tanks. They commented back and said that i wasnt considering the capacity, caliber,or ease of use of the FX. When in fact all i was saying is that they should make an attachment that works on all canister filters so that we can use any that are tanks and budgets allow. Instead they expect me to but a $300-$400 filter. Let me know what your experience is with them as a company.
  3. It is also a dimmable nicrew and its only on about half the brightness.
  4. My light is on 10 hours a day. But its just a nicrew led so its not crazy powerful. My nutrients levels are low as well. As a matter of fact ive only got about 10ppm if nitrates.
  5. Thanks cory. Also do you think i should still use root tabs any?
  6. Ive got a 20 gallon tank with a fairly large crypt and about 10 or so dwarf sag. I normally gravel vac but i feel like i shouldnt do it to this tank. Should i gravel vac even though my plants are root feeders?
  7. Ive recently had alot of green spot algae growing on my gravel. My bristlenose pleco does eat it alot but he doesnt eat it from around my dwarf sag. Ive got two big mystery snails and about thirty pond snails in the tank as well. Im going to starve out my snails a bit because i normally feed algae wafers to them but i think thats my problem. Im unsure if this is a good idea with my mystery snails or not. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  8. What are your favorite foods and why do you use them in your fish tanks or fishroom. I personally use xtreme Nano and hikari sink nano algae wafers combined with tetra pleco wafers and also zoomed nano blocks for all of my snails and everything in between.
  9. Id suggest using easy green to boost plant nutrition.
  10. Have you tried fluval bug bites. Other than that i would suggest feeding frozen foods and zucchini as normal. One other good method is sropping in an algae wafer or too until it gets mushy and let them eat that. Go0dluck in your breedkng adventures
  11. The water is very milky looking. Ive check all of my parameters and there perfect. Not sure what else it could be.
  12. I honestly havent used fake plants in years now. I almost see no use in them because of how easy some aquarium plants are to grow.
  13. Most loaches can take care of snails. If i were you i would purchase a snail catcher from aquarium coop or get a snail trap from SERA. After you get as many as you can out i would put a few corydoras or somthing to eat the snail eggs. As well as using salt.
  14. Ive recently been dealing with a very bad cloudy water situation. Almost to the point that you cant even see in the tank. Ive been doing weekly water changes and my water parameters are perfect. No ammonia nitrate or nitrite. Im almost certain my fish are all still alive and well and ive also been using filter floss and water clarifier but still no results. Not to metion the tank gas been setup for going on two years now. Anyone got any ideas?

    Tannins

Tannins are such a great part of aquariums in my opinion. Its almost like having aquarium salt in your tank but a more passive approach to fish meds. Tannins have anitfungal and antibacterial properties and not to mention if you use rooibos tea in your tanks you can get lots of antioxidants for your fish. The only downside is if your not doing blackwater tanks it may be annoying to have a orangey yellow hue to your water but if you are careful with how much you add its just fine. Another alternative is using API melafix. Everyone has there opinions about if melafix is useful or not. But i tend to think it has great benefits to tanks regardless. Let me know what your thoughts are on this topic and please let me know if i missed anything.
  16. The white stuff on the anubaias is snail poop. Idk what is on the lilly bulb. Looks to be algae or fungus. Snails should take care of it no problem.
  17. Ive been considering getting some seachem flourish advanced but im still on the fence about it and was wondering if anyone has any info on the product. Also does it help any plants in particular like moss or water stem plants?
  18. Mystery snails can work but the bettas tent to nip at their antenna. I would use nerites or something Malaysian Malaysian trumpet snails. Best of luck
  19. I would use some hornwort or guppy grass. As well as somthing with lots of surface area for the shrimp to graze on.
  20. A mature tank just consists of gravel plants and the filtration itself growing bacteria to establish a good ground for the nitrogen cycle to work from.
  21. The good old marimo moss ball. One of the easiest in to grow in the hobby. Its almost impossible to kill. These plants are awesome for starting new tanks or to add surface area for shrimp and other animals to snack on the bits of food and biofilm that grow off of them. I personally own about 7 of them. The best part about them is they just have a knack for holding in lots of nutrients microfauna and bio film. What are your thoughts on the marimo moss ball
  22. Honestly the best way to repair a plant in my opinion is a tank full of pond snails. They has a voracious appetite and are really good for most any algae. Although easy carbon works just as well but it takes longer.
  23. I believe that is fissidens moss. But it could also be Christmas moss.
  24. Salt is quite useful but id tent to lean away from it unless ive got something major going on. More often than not i use other methods such as api melafix.
  25. Mulm is almost like a filter in itself. Yes its detritus and debris but its also more than that. Its has very beneficial abilities. Its chock full of bacteria's and nutrients that plants can use up or the bacteria break it down. Mulm is a great part of my aquariums and is honestly a secret weapon in my aquariums.
