  1. Thanks for the help. That definitely helps a lot.
  2. Does anyone know how much potassium permanganate is in jungle clear water? I’ve been using the stuff for years and usually just follow the instructions on the back but I want to know what percentage of the solution is PP. I use this stuff for basically everything. Parasites, fungal issues, and obviously to clear up cloudy water. I’ve been researching more uses for PP but It doesn’t really matter if I can’t know the exact amount to use.
  3. Are African dwarf frogs a risk with small fish? There is a local pet store that has some sparking gouramis but they are kinda small so I’m not sure if I should house them with a dwarf frog because they are a around half inch long. What is the verdict?
  4. I’m think of using a sand and gravel combo to cap some soil in my aquarium to keep the soil from making a mess but I also want any mulm and fish waste to be able to settle under the gravel. Would a gravel and sand combo work or is it better to use one or the other?
  5. I just bought a piece of mopani wood and I’ve been soaking it in water for the past few hours and I’m going to save the tannins for later use in my black water tank. The only issue is I don’t want to have to keep a 2 liter bottle of tannins around. Is there an effective way to concentrate tannins? I’ve thought about boiling off the water and leaving the tannins behind but I’m not sure if that will destroy the tannins. Any ideas?
  6. Basically yes. Ill be supplementing the KH and maybe some GH to be able to have snails with the tannins. My water is soft but otherwise fine. I think I’ll do small regular water changes every week for the first month and check in on the PH to keep it stable.
  7. Super soft water. Low KH, GH, hardly any chlorine. No nitrates or ammonia either. Maybe a small amount of iron but otherwise very clean. PH is right at 6-7. Not sure about phosphates but I’d imagine it’s slow as well because I don’t have many algae issues unless I use mineral additives like seachem equilibrium.
  8. Honestly I would be happy if I can have good tannins but a PH of 6-7 would be best. Would crushed coral be able to balance it the Ph out or could I use some other means like water changes or using Seachem stability?
  9. I’m working on a black water aquarium but with swampy/Bog style plants. I’m thinking of using sphagnum peat capped with sand as my substrate capped with some sand. My question is will the peat cause my water to be too acidic and would crushed coral balance out the acidity while keeping the black water tannic look. Thanks everyone!
  10. Sorry I’ve been off here for a while now since I’ve had a lot going on but does anyone have any ideas of plants that can handle outdoor temps year round in zone 7b? Basically I’m planning on setting up an outdoor stock pond similar to the ones Cory has indoors. It’s going to be a 100 gal stock tank and I plan on having ricefish and maybe some snails.
  11. Do you have any hornwort?. It’s great at sucking up nitrates.
  12. The one on the top is brazillian penny worth. The one on the bottom is mayaca fluviatillis.
  13. I recently dosed my tank with a few meds and some salt. I used API super ich cure, API erithromycin, API Melafix, and salt. Literally a few hours later my stag horn algae problem had already started to turn red and is dying. I would love to know if it was the salt or the meds. I dosed them all regularly by the instructions accept for the salt for which I used 1 tablespoon to 2 gallons of water.
  14. I have literally met my limit with my tanks. Anyone know of good ways to keep busy in the hobby besides buying new tanks and fish for said tanks?
  15. My bristlenose pleco has been eating a lot of algae lately and it’s since it’s albino I can see it’s stomach and it’s entirely black across the entire midsection. Like he is impacted or something. Please help. I’ve only had him for about two and a half years and I’m worried.
  16. That’s awesome!!! Hopefully you can get them good and fat for the pet store. Also what do you feed the adult frogs. Live foods or frozen or prepared?
  17. One pump of easy green contains 20ppm nitrates per ten gallons.
  18. I’ve been having trouble with my crypt wenti red. It’s grows for a few days and then the leaves die off and it does it again. Not sure what to do. I’m currently running a nicrew led on this tank for 10 hours a day in a 20 gallon with all easy green and root tabs. Needs help to figure out what to do.
  19. That’s amazing! I really want to do this myself one day. Have you tried feeding the hikari first bites or aquarium coop fry food?
  20. Charcoal takes the nutrients out of the water column. So in my opinion charcoal is useless for the most part.
  21. @Tanked the root tabs arent the same nutrients as the liquid. They have more minerals and topsoil for heavy root feeders.
  22. Really interesting. Wonder if you could get another like it to breed them and see if it passes down the gene pool.
  23. Has anyone else seen this odd feeding contraption dean created. Its a string with a cone on the end that he feeds freeze dried cubes. I really want to know how to make one. I cant figure out what he used for the bottom cone. Its smaller than a worm cone. Anyone who knows anything about this please let me know. Also if dean sees this. You're a genius.
