  1. I can't remember the name, but I remember seeing them on a Youtube video. I'll see if I can find it again, but if I remember correctly they are not actually cories, but another species that looks like cories. Hopefully someone will correct me and set me straight!
  2. Hello from all the way out east! It may be argued there is no such thing as "way too many tanks." Granted, at this point I barely afford the one I have lol!
  3. For what it's worth, my vote is a picture of the bearded dragon is needed in the other pets thread under the Off topic general category!
  4. I think my favorite part of this post is the realization that your garage is bigger by a long shot than the entire house I just bought!
  5. First of all, @BreeMarie, I'm impressed at your thoughtfulness and planning... and this is coming from a guy that just did an entire theme tank around a picture bough at a yard sale!(You can see it in "Theme tank" under the photos tab.) I also love the look of your tank! I don't think you would be overstocked at all, but I would say bring them in slowly. In my opinion, I would probably bring in 2 or 3 tetras to start, maybe in another week or two since I see your nitrate is present. Allow those two a week or so to allow the bb to catch up with their waste, then bring in the rest of the tetras in the same fashion. After that I, personally, would bring in the cories( I would bring those in all at once to keep the shoal dynamic), then the gouramis. I would bring the snail in last once he has enough to feed on (Where I made my mistake!) That all being said, I'm relatively new myself, so take everything I've said with somewhere between a grain and a shaker of salt! Looking forward to walking through this journey with you!
  6. Welcome to the board and the hobby Tara. I haven't been around long, but I'm sure, as Grace said to Annie, "You're gonna like it here."
  7. I am by no means an expert, but the research I've done has shown that breeding is the primary time when angels become very aggressive as they guard the young. As far as eating the eggs, I've found several sources that say they will eat them at first, but then will mature and guard them ferociously. I'd love to hear from people smarter than me!
  8. Agreed all around!!! The good part is it will also stop people who intend to derail the joy by being asinine with their responses.
  9. I found a great little cave on there after seeing that pointer! I just bought it last night, and the guy worked very well with me on a slightly defective version for a fraction of the cost. It has open backs, so when I have it in the corner I can still see who is hiding.
  10. Thank you so much to all of you! For some reason, the forum is saying I'm not allowed to react to anyone anymore, but I wanted you all to know you are appreciated.
  11. In the first picture you can see from above, and in the second I pulled the inner housing out. I have the sponge on the bottom, with a circle of floss (technically Fluval QuickClear pads), wrapped around the bio ball bag like a beneficial bacteria taco. Hope this helps. All I ask is that you not judge me at how brown the tannins have turned my filter media!
  12. Nothing's wrong in an unplanted tank. If I remember correctly, the carbon can be detrimental to planted tanks, such as negating the effectiveness of fertilizers. I know Cory (Co-op, not catfish), talks frequently about not using carbon in his tanks. He did a great video on optimizing HOB filters, let me see if I can find it for you!
  13. I'll leave that question for someone who uses carbon. I've watched too many YouTube videos of Cory to use carbon. 🤣
  14. The best things about sponges and floss, they can be squished and trimmed! THEY ALWAYS FIT! I have an Aquaclear 50 at the moment, so it won't be exactly the same, but when I get home from work I'll try to get you some pics of mine.
  15. I recently re-entered the hobby with a 37 gallon topfin combo. Good tank, but the lid leaves much to be desired! The light in it seems acceptable, but the only opening in the lid is a tiny fliptop door that is good ONLY for feeding. Even putting test strips in requires removing the entire lid, when I undoubtedly drop a corner into the tank. I used a hot knife to remove a portion of the back so my autofeeder would be able to fit. As I look at ways to ungrade the tank in the near future, I'm looking at the Finnex lights. I'm hoping to hear everyone's opinion on if I truly need a lid on my aquarium, or if I could get away with an open top. My stocking at this point includes Koi angelfish, Swordtails, Lyretail Mollies, Cories, and a clown pleco. I don't think I remember reading that any of them were jumpers.
  16. I'm with Mr. Ed! In my HOB is a sponge, a chunk of floss, and a bag of bio balls, When it comes time to swap things out, the filter floss gets swapped, the sponge and balls both get rinsed in the changed out water.
  17. Due to my insatiable bloodlust, I would have to put some form of predator in the 175. I used to have a clown knife that was amazing in a tank that was unfortunately FAR too small.
  18. Welcome, Oh Shy One, to the madhouse! Glad to have ya!
  19. Welcome, wing! I avoid facebook at all costs, but I love it on here!
  20. I am beginning to plan my next order from the Co-op, and want to make sure I'm getting the correct size prefilter. Would a medium be big enough for a Fluval AquaClear 50? They have those tiny intake tubes, so I was thinking the large wouldn't stay on.
