  1. I think it would be fine. Water changes cause stress as well so it is always a balance of what causes the least stress. I think you could wait to water change until ammonia hits 0.5ppm or above and monitor daily until stable
  2. Just a thought here. You may not have crashed your cycle. I have heard a lot of people say fluval stratum can leach some ammonia into the water column. You may be fighting ammonia for a while depending on how much you put in. Personally whenI was having a few ammonia problems, I would check parameters daily and change water at 0.5ppm or above.
  3. Here is what ended up happening. I put my Betta in salt and he perked right up. However, the corydoras in his normal tank started acting lethargic and were darting to the surface to breathe very frequently. there was definitely something wrong, either a parasite or a contaminant I can’t measure for. I added the betta back to the main tank and he started acting lethargic again too. I did a 50% water change and treated with paracleanse as well. We are now on day 4 of treatment with paracleanse and everyone is actually acting normal again . I’m going to do another big water change tomorrow but thinking I may be out of the woods here. And no casualties yet
  4. Ya. I am going to leave him in the salt for today and most of tomorrow to hel with constipation if that’s the issue. He is acting fine now in the hospital tank. There is always the chance that there is nothing wrong with him and Inam putting him through all of this for nothing, but he did not look right yesterday. I think I will add him back to the main tank tomorrow and treat the whole tank with paracleanse. Just gotta not kill him with treatments.
  5. I didn’t see any flukes. But it is possible. He may have some sores right behind his gills. It is tough to tell with his coloration. Salt will take care of it right? Or should I also do an ich x or paracleanse?
  6. I think he is fighting something though. I just found him in on the ground breathing hard. He also looks bloated. It could be nothing but it could be swim bladder issues or a parasite. I decided to move him to the QT to treat with salt. He perked up pretty well. He seems pretty twitchy though like something is irritating him. bummer cause I have fish coming in this week and they were going to go in the QT. I guess will have to find somewhere else to put them for now.
  7. He actually only flares at the back glass which already has black out window tint on it
  8. Ya.... he has kind of been a dork since I got him, and from what I have read, Bettas are kind of goofy.
  9. I don’t know how old he is, but I got him less than 2 months ago. I doubt it is age. Just wondering what I should do for him if this is abnormal behavior.
  10. I keep it at 78-79. I even bought a new heater because my 50W only kept the temp up to 76 when it was cooler. And I wanted my betta a little warmer
  11. Hey all, this is my first time keeping a betta? So I want to know if this is normal behavior, he likes to just lay down on the bottom of the tank. He does this a lot. It started approx a week ago. Before that he was almost always swimming in the water column or flaring at his reflection. I checked water parameters: ph 7.4 nitrite and ammonia 0 Nitrate 20-30ppm gh 150 kh 40 he also eats fine. He prefers to pick the food off the ground and doesn’t intercept in the water column very often. When he does swim, he doesn’t have any issues. the only other behavior I have noticed is he will occasionally flash on the decor. No skin/fin abnormalities that I can see. let me know if he is being normal or if this is something I need to be concerned about. thanks, derek
  12. 5 corys, 2 super red Bristlenose Plecos completed QT. Took the meds fine. Everyone is settling in to the display tank. I was concerned about the Betta accepting roommate, but he is indifferent to them. He isnt even possessive over food. More often I find him moping around laying in the Death Star or at the bottom of the tank.
  13. Went to the LFS yesterday intending to buy Kuhli Loaches. As most things happen in this world, my plans didn’t work out the way I planned. I took the whole family to the LFS with me. We came home with 5 Sterbai Corys and 2 super red Bristlenose Plecos. I’m retrospect, I think it was the right decision. They are in quarantine and doing very well. Love watching those little ding dongs waddle through the bottom of the tank. Also added 6 Malaysian Trumpet Snail to the main tank.
  14. Oh lol I know. I’m already planning my next order 😉
  15. I have an organizer with my fish stuff next to my tanks. Just a lonely tetra.
  16. Woof I’m sorry. I don’t have a lot of input here. Just wanted to give my condolences, that really stinks
  17. Hello, im getting a batch of Malaysian trumpet snails today. I don’t particularly want to quarantine them. I have heard mixed things about QT for snails. what do you all do with you snails? QT or no QT?
  18. “Now look off into the distance and act like you don’t care” This picture is amazing! What kind of camera do you use?
  19. Good thought. I can back 4-5 days ago. Cleaned things up a bit and it was steady for a couple days, then bloomed again so I thought I should change it. I’ll leave it at this light cycle for a good week before I make up my mind.
  20. Man... I wouldn’t think he would jump through there, but you never know. If you are concerned you can stretch some Saran Wrap over that area while you are gone.
  21. This is great info. Thank you! The aggression was my concern with the betta, so this give me some confidence.
  22. Battling Diatoms. I came back from vacation and had a bloom. I cleaned it up a bit and turned down my photo period from 8.5-7 hours. Well... today a whole bunch more diatoms. Gonna go the other direction now. Upping the light to 9 hours.
  23. Candy Koi sounds about right. I have only had him a couple weeks so we will see
  24. Wow. I watched the whole thing and loved it! Is there a way to easily sex them? I would love to keep just a pair for now if possible but am not opposed to buying a trio if needed.
