  1. I think they were talking about the water change feature. The slow water movement is fine for filtration to just takes forever to change the water that way. That’s whybI just use a siphon on mine
  2. I have a couple tanks with this type of technology in them. They work fine for what they are but they move water very slowly. I don’t use it because of that, but I don’t have to either. Probably ok with small water volumes.
  3. I would keep a group of 5 pea puffers in a 20 gallon. You will never have a snail problem. They are also adorable, intelligent, interactive. The only downside is you need to feed them frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms and try to get them appropriate nutrition. I just pull snails from my other tanks and throw them in.
  4. I have done it using stainless screws. Never tried superglue. The screws work well. You can buy a tile bit at the hardware store and screwing the wood to the slate is really easy after that.
  5. I put my baby angels with Plecos and they did fine. I have limited space so I like to experiment with how I can combine fry. More often than not it leads to lots of losses but the Plecos never hurt the fry in my experience
  6. I would do a Betta or a honey gourami as the centerpiece in that tank.
  7. No clue. I ended up losing the female. No idea what happened to her so I am bummed. Now I have 2 males and a female.
  8. Wow thanks. They are pretty stunning fish. I have 2 pair of them and have gotten 1 fry so far.
  9. Good morning, My female Hemichromis Exsul developed a lack of pigment at her anus (vent). Is this a sign of illness? I can’t find much info about it.
  10. I have redcaps outside. I have 100s of those suckers already. I am in Chicago. Maybe at the end of tubbing season we could trade some medaka!
  11. That is sad, but also incredible.
  12. Hey team, Summer tubbin is now starting to heat up (pun intended) it’s has been unseasonably hot here in Chicago. Fish in tubs play by different rules than fish in aquariums. Goliad farms has their stuff in greenhouses that get 120 degrees plus in the summer. When do you start getting worried about the temperature in tub ponds if you have air going to them?
  13. Second this. My favorite racks are my cinder block racks
  14. I feed fluval bug bites (tropical and spirulina) I also feed baby brine shrimp pretty regularly and intermittently I feed frozen foods. I had a couple medaka go down with bloat, so I cut back a little on the BBS and started interspersing the spirulina flake in there a while back
  15. Hey. So my Medaka started looking wierd. He was fine until about a week or two ago and he started looking like this and unable to keep bouancy. It’s very strange looking. I have medaka spawning in the tank so I doubt it is water parameters. Does anyone know what would cause this and if there is a fix?
  16. I live in Chicago and am itching to get some summer tubing started. It’s pretty cold yet. When do you all put water in your tubs and when do you add fish? I don’t want to have mosquito issues so I want to time it right
  17. Hey, you could use a similar set up as I have in my basement. First for water supply. I ran the water hot and cold through a mechanical mixing valve (from Amazon) then that water went through a carbon block filter. The carbon block is connected to a potable water hose that I then have a python like attachment attached to for filling tanks. for taking water out, I took a gravel vac and attached a long vinyl tube to it, which then ran to my drain. This is a really fast way of getting water out and back in, you don’t need to worry about declorination, and the water is temp controlled pics attached.
  18. They are also in a heavily planted 40 breeder and I dont want them getting lost. If they get kicked out of that cave they are going to be incredibly difficult to catch.
  19. I have a male BN pleco that has been in a cave with eggs/fry for at least 3-4 days, probably more. I shine a flashlight in the cave and I see the pleco fry in there, the male quickly covers them up. I want to pull them and put them in a breeder box. When should I do this? Or should I puke the male and the cave and put them in their own tank. They are in a community tank and I don’t want them all to be eaten.
  20. I just picked up 2 pair of zoogoneticus tequila at an auction this weekend I am super stoked to work with. I also have a breeding colony of multis in a 20L and that is probably one of my favorite tanks to watch.
  21. I would just put a valve on the line where the air is coming out and then it will balance the output.
  22. I like to trap mine. Either very gently lift whatever he is attached to up and slip a net under him as you are lifting (will swim into the net) or you can build a fish trap with an old plastic bottle. I have done both.
  23. Big Update; Bren working hard and about 80% of where air want it to be Here is my setup: it took me a bit to get the temperature figured out. My wall mounted 400W heater just want cutting it, so I ended up getting a 350W heater to supplement it I have 2 racks set up for breeding and grow out. still looking to get some additional 20 gallons to fill out the racks the rest of the way. My Cinder block rack is on an AWC system. Hot and cold water enter a mechanical mixing valve and then go through a 5 micron carbon filter. After the carbon filter, I have a Garden hose Y, one side of which goes to my hose I use to manually fill tanks, the other goes through a WiFi connected garden hose timer and then reduces to 1/4 in RO tubing. the RO tubing then splits and empties into the tanks and is on irrigation drip emitters. Each 10 gallon has a 1 gallon per hour drip emitter, 20s have 2 gph, and the 29 gallon has 2 2gph drip emitters feeding it. I built pvc overflows for the AWC system, which drain into gutters. I have had some issues with air bubbles in the overflows and I can see why a lot of people just drill their tanks, but I think I have worked it out and everything is going smoothly. The lighting is mostly done by 24 inch 6500k under cabinet lights. They are not the brightest thing in the world but I don’t have ultra demanding plants in this room anyway. I wish they were a little brighter, but they do the trick. the water gutters drain to my sump pit where the ‘em water is then pumped out of the house. I plan on feeding this water to the garden this summer. for air I have 2 7 W diaphragm pumps each hooked up to a custom pvc gang valve. and Finally, my posters I printed from the coop club member benefit hanging on the wall. They turned out great!
