  1. Ive been enjoying taking tons of photos of my fish lately and thought id share some of them that didnt necessarily fit in the macro photography thread. Do you have any favorite fish photos youd like to share? Lets see em
  2. Their color is stunning. Cant wait to see you cranking out hundreds of them. Id love to do a large native species tank some day, these are definitely on my list.
  3. My understanding is that it is very very difficult to find females for sale so that would be your first challenge if youre going to breed them.
  4. @GatorIf theyre anything like all of the Oto’s ive had they will happily chomp on some worms. Its Interesting to me how different @xXInkedPhoenixX experience with them has been to my own. I have a group of about 10 of them and they totally ignore the algae wafers. There is plenty of real algae in the tank for them so that may be why. Also my Oto’s absolutely love shrimp pellets and carnivore pellets, repashy community and they go nuts for Tubifex worms just like my corydoras. Dont get me wrong a majority of their diet is vegetables like zuchini, cucumber, squash and sweet potato as well as algae/awfuchs but if i throw in some shrimp pellets theyre over theyre sucking them down in no time.
  5. Haha i hope so. And ive heard kuhli loach spawns are HUGE so if so i might have a lot of tiny little noodles to care for.
  6. My Kuhli loaches have been actjng very out of character today and im hoping that this is spawning behavior. Maybe some of you with more experience can let me know. Typically they are very shy and stay out of sight during the day. Occasionally one will hang out in the sand at the front for a short time and then wiggle back into the rocks. Today however all of them were out the entire day until lights out. They squished themselves together behind a rock and occasionally squirmed around each other and switched sides. Im hoping i got lucky and triggered spawning by doing a 20% water change yesterday afternoon. Also overnight the weather here has gone from cool/raining to sunny and 87* today so that may also be having an impact. I took a short video of them today that you can check out here too: Oodles of Noodles Vid
  7. Wow so many youngins! I am very jealous, I've been trying to get mine to breed for about 6 months now. No luck yet but hopefully i get a fry explosion soon like yours.
  8. I thought it might be time for an update on the mini pond project now that summer round the corner again. The pond is still going strong and the danios are very healthy and seem happy. Im sure theyve been spawning but unfortunately the adults are very fast and seem to love snacking on any little ones so it looks like ill have to separate them if i want to breed any more. MTS and Assasin snails have been doing a great job as the clean up crew but id like to breed some cherry shrimp this year and add them as well. Originally my goal for the mini pond was to use it to recycle all of the water change water from my tanks as well as cycling the water through hydroponic veggies and i wanted it to run completely on solar power. Some of that worked out and some didnt. The veggies and pond plants are more than happy to soak up all the nitrates they can get from my tank water changes. In fact i would need much larger tanks for the system to get enough nutrients so i am supplementing with ez green here and there to help out. The veggies last year did not work out as well as i’d hoped. The plants really struggled and the harvest was tiny but i learned alot. Im hoping now that i have some experience this year will yield better results. I planted much earlier this season and i already have some tomatoes on the vine so im hopeful that there will be a lot more to come. I also ended up running some electrical to the pond over the winter so that i could add a heater and an additional light. I found that with the small size of the pond, temps dropped much more quickly at night during winter than i anticipated. I believe the danios couldve survived winter without the heater but i decided id rather be on the safe side and ensure that they are comfortable and thriving. Hopefully ill be following up soon with photos of tons of peppers and tomatoes.🤞🏼
  9. Rosey Tetra males showing off for each other The newest addition to the amazonian tank. Apistogramma Borelli And a cory wondering what the heck im doing
  10. Looks very cool, not familiar with this species. He/she looks pretty beefy tho compared to others. Most others ive seen have a flatter side body.
  11. Some of these photos are absolutely amazing. I decided to give it a shot tonight myself. I dont have anything of that quality and im not really sure these count as macro photos either; but here are a couple i took on my phone tonight. I am looking to get a macro lens attachment soon so i can get more detailed shots. In the process of reviewing the photos i took of my new hatchetfish i noticed that they have Ich! I hadnt noticed any symptoms yet so if i hadnt taken these close ups i still wouldnt know. i immediately dosed ich x so they should be recovered soon enough.
  12. Very cool, im also trying out an aquaponics system using a mini pond. So far ive struggled. Since these photos were taken most of the plants have crashed and burned. Im going to change things up this coming season hopefully ill have better success.
  13. Ive really fallen in love with corydoras also. They’re so interesting to watch and just have so much personality. Here are some photos of mine. These are my Trilineatus Corys as youngsters, just after i got them from aqua Huna. Then they had babies... Those are pretty much grown up too now and I also have some pygmy corys which are equally as awesome. But ive struggled with them so far and havent got them breeding just yet.a little harder to see here unless you zoom in
  14. You and me both. Especially because i havent had them long at all. *fingers crossed*
  15. I believe sexing is done just by color and body shape. A couple of them are not fully grown and I have never kept them before so im not totally sure about their sexes. I just guessed that it was sparring.
  16. I noticed my pencilfish were sparring non-stop last night after a water change so i thought id share a short video because i hadnt seen any pics or vids online of them doing this and you might be interested in their behavior if youre thinking of keeping them. They're actually still at it today as i type this. Pencilfish Feelin Feisty Vid
  17. Im hoping someone with more experience can help here and diagnose whats going on. I purchased 8 pygmy corydoras a couple of weeks ago. They looked very healthy and energetic. They were in quarantine for a week and a half and treated with melafix, pimafix and one round general cure. Theyve now been in the community tank for a week and have looked very healthy the whole time. I did a 20% water change 2 days ago. Suddenly today i looked in to find 2 of them dead right at the front of the tank. One appeared as if it had just died and still had full color and i couldnt see any signs of infection or sickness. I accounted for all of the other fish at the time and they all appeared energetic and happy. This evening i looked in on them again and saw this poor little cory looking bloated and struggling to swim. I attached a video below. I dont see any red spots signs of infection or lethargic behavior. Whatever it is seems to be killing them quickly. I am currently treating the tank with erythromycin and general cure because i dont know what else to do. Id like to figure out whats going on so that i can prevent this happening in the future. Temp: 73*F PH: 7.8 GH: 100ppm KH: 70ppm Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 10ppm Sick Pygmy Cory Vid Other corys
  18. Its interesting that the water quality would change with the seasons. I wonder why? Im a so cal boy, so i know nothing about real seasons.
  19. Aww man thats unfortunate. What area are you in if you dont mind me asking
  20. Well whaddya know apparently i have bladder snails and ive just been calling the, pond snails this whole time. Thanks for the info @H.K.Luterman
