  1. This is gonna be an epic thread i can tell already! 6 smaller tubs is a great idea. It gives you so many options for keeping different species out there and the plastic tubs should be much easier to maintain. Cant wait to see your progress!
  2. Nice! Ive been surprised just how much personality my oto’s have honestly. Theyre so fun to watch.
  3. It became apparent today that i needed some sort’ve drip irrigation in this heat. About an hour or two after soaking the planters they felt bone dry. So i rigged something off of the same water pump i had running using some air line tubing, And vacuum connectors. So far it seems to be working surprisingly well.
  4. The expanded clay media i ordered finally arrived so i was able to plant the peppers and lettuce. I may be adding a drip system to the planters, im gonna see how this works out first. Submerged i have jungle val, some Moneywort and a dwarf aquarium lily from aquarium coop. So far the jungle val is t doing too hot, im hoping it makes it.
  5. I just started doing something similar. I have 2 small tanks so Although i dont buy in bulk, i go through food pretty slowly so i need to preserve it. picked up a small little container meant for medication and put my different dry food in it. I sealed the original containers and put them in my freezer. Also i found a plus, with the pill cutter i can easily chop up wafers into smaller pieces so that my cory’s get a chance to eat without an amano shrimp or danio swimming off with the whole pellet.
  6. An expandable tank! You could start small and just upgrade over time by buying another section of tank, sliding a new section on to one side, remove a divider and viola bigger tank! Also you could divide the sections and create smaller tanks if you liked.
  7. When i was maybe 5 or 6 my dad got a second hand 30 gallon. We went to the LFS and he let me pick out all the fish. Surprisingly i Never forgot what species of fish we had even tho i was so young. We ended up with Convicts, Bala sharks, Tiger barbs, and what was probably a common pleco that we just called a sucker fish and never fed because we didnt know you needed to at the time and of OF COURSE a little treasure chest Bubbler! I was so fascinated with those fish i would watch them for hours. Unfortunately one day i got home from school and it was a bloodbath... the convicts had gone all convict on everybody. After that i didnt keep fish again until the beginning of this year. I love nature, the outdoors and i love animals but im too busy to have a dog anymore. After that first tank i’d always wanted to keep fish again. Every once in a while i would go to my LFS or pet store and just walk through looking at all the fish longingly but it wasnt until the end of last year that i decided I wasnt putting it off anymore! Im so glad I did, its brought me a lot of happiness over the last few months.
  8. That Aquarium coop feeder tight lid adapter is so rad!! Nice work
  9. Also got some solar lights set up today. So far theyve exceeded my expectations. Especially considering the price. I think they were $26? They are waterproof so im wondering if i should mount them underwater to avoid glare on the surface. What do you guys think?
  10. Those plants are looking great. Breeding Leopard danios is what inspired me to start this mini pond In the first place, theyre such crazy little fish.
  11. More solar powered goodies arrived in the mail today. This solar air pump has an internal battery so that it can hopefully run 24/7. It has an intermittent setting as well as a setting that only runs it at night. I think the night setting may be handy in overcast weather where it will store energy during the day and only run the pump at night when its most needed. I used some spare sponge filter pad and a plastic bottle to make a filter also. I think its going to work pretty well actually. I just need to top it off with a few more bio rings.
  12. Hey, welcome! I love the assassin snails. If you need to get rid of some just let me know, ill take them off your hands! Haha
  13. Yes, at first at least. I filled it about a week ago and the water was dark within an hour. Ive done a few water changes since and today i did a 100% water change. Havent tested PH yet but when i do ill post it. My water comes out of the tap around 7.5 so im not expecting it to drop too low, but well see.
  14. The pump is working well so far. It came with a few different nozzle choices which really came in handy. I Just need to make sure i pick a nozzle that doesnt work too well and end up spraying all the way out of the pond and draining it.
  15. Ive ordered a few goodies to get the pond started, the first of which arrived today! This solar powered water pump was just $20 on amazon. Its very small and basic which is fine for my purposes. Its mostly ornamental, tho it should provide some extra aeration on the sunniest/hottest days. As you can see there was already a little tear in the coating on the solar panel which is not a great sign but well see if it works.
  16. I feel ya. I really only test nitrates anymore before each water change. I usually only use the other tests if something seems off.
  17. Im currently setting up my first mini pond to house My leopard danio fry when they outgrow the tank their current tank. My goals are to run filtration solely off of solar power and to use the pond as a sort of low tech aquaponic system also to grow some peppers, herbs and veggies. To start i’ve sourced a 3/4 wine barrel. I believe it holds between 55-60 gallons Ive added a couple of old bookers bourbon boxes for planters also and have drilled holes in the bottom so that they drain back into the pond. I also added the pvc spigot set up at the back which will aid in water changes as well as draining in case the pond starts to overfill during heavy rain. The spigot should also allow me to use the pond water to easily water other nearby planters.
  18. This is about the best one ive seen. I dont have any video of mine unfortunately because i think mine have been breeding late at night/early in the morning.
  19. @Daniel its crazy to think just how much is going on in these little ecosystems we create that we are unaware of. Thats what really fascinates me about this hobby, you never know what to expect or what might have changed since last time you looked into that tank.
  20. Now that is a test tube tray! I think that would be overkill for my 2 nano tanks tho... haha How many tanks do you have right now?
  21. Just went in to feed and saw a teenie tiny fresh little hillstream loach next too its older siblings. They spawned again!! Im having trouble getting a clear photo of them. Ill update if i can get a better one. The bottom photo is of the first spawn fry next to an assassin snail for scale.
  22. Lookin good! I was actually just checking out a very similar tank that has a hole in the lid to grow a plant but decided against it because it looked kinda cheapo online. Your tank looks so good tho youre making me think i need to pick one up
