  1. Hi, with a lot of my plants growing quite quickly I was wondering how to dispose of plants that I can't place back in the substrate (such as dwarf aquarium lily leaves). I've read about freezing as an option, but I'm not sure that it would also deal with the bladder and ramshorn snails/eggs in my aquarium. Thanks!
  2. Why look who I found in my tank just a few minutes ago while I was admiring my frogbit roots A LITTLE SNAIL personally I think he is very cute and would not mind keeping him ill attach some pictures at the bottom but he is about the size of a pencil eraser and he was just on my wall moving his little mouth so first of all im trying to figure where he came from because my tank isnt even fully cycled BUT I did get a replacement for one of my plants that came in melted maybe 2 or 3 days ago so im guessing thats how he snuck in but i was just wondering if he would be doing any harm to my tank/ future betta and if he isnt UHHHH how can I safely remove him because i dont want thousands of snails the pictures are kind of blurry but he is very little so whoops thanks!
  3. Ok, so when they were smaller people thought they were bladder snails, but now, Im not so sure. Sometimes I think the antenna look more conical, others whispy. But seems to me the shells point the opposite direction than bladders should. Of course through the glass they look lighter in color but once I get them out they look the color of bladder shells. Of course it is possible I've got both these were all free with my plant order (not aquarium co-op). 😒. I attached photos of the two largest (crunchy and speedy). I've now got a bunch of smaller ones as well. I have noticed that my plants are looking lacey and in not as good shape leading me to believe the snails may be eating the plants. Attaching photo.
  4. Just as it says above? I found one yesterday and another one today, it has small brown/orange dots on its shell. To keep or not? Thanks
  5. Hey everyone, somehow this little guy showed up in our tank or I just noticed him the other day. Small snail but wanting to know what type of snail this is and should we be concerned about them becoming invasive in our fish tank? Never had a snail in our setup before so this is new to me.
  6. Hello everyone. I have an outbreak of bladder snails in my tank. I have 1 Nerite Snail which I’d like to keep. What are my options?
  7. Can someone identify this snail?
  8. I got this assassin snail to deal with a pest snail outbreak. Its not really working but today I saw him ignoring perfectly good tiny food right there on the leaf he’s on!
  9. I recently purchased some plants and instead of the normal alum dip I decided to throw them in QT. After a couple weeks in QT I found some baby snails (as I understand happens), but I not very familiar with snails. Any idea what kind of snail this is? My main concern is if the 3 I've found are going to rapidly become many many more...
  10. Hi all! I’m trying to identify this tiny baby snail that hitch hiked into my tank, I do have nerites laying eggs and have yet to see any hatch but I’m almost certain this isn’t a nerite based on the foot and it appeared just after adding salvinia minima. Anyways, since the photo is a little hard to make out, it’s mostly transparent with brown speckled from the tip of the spiral which does protrude out not in like a ramshorn.. I’m guessing and hoping it’s a mystery snail but also just have no idea. I want to properly care for it not eradicate it but if it’s a pesty type of snail I do have assassin snails too to keep a population under control. https://ibb.co/HrczqJD https://ibb.co/swsdpZg https://ibb.co/tzqYNvb https://ibb.co/0q6FJLp https://ibb.co/6v2L9GY thanks for any help!
  11. I found my first snail ever. He came in on a big purchase of plants and has gotten quite large from when I first saw him. I just wonder what kind of snail he is? I don't know anything about snails, but my guess is maybe a nerite snail?
  12. I was checking out my tank this morning and found this little guy crawling around. Does anyone know what type of snail he is and where he may have come from?
  13. Received some new plants and they had some hitchhikers, bladder snails. These are in my new, still cycling tank. I have been removing and squishing. But thought, would these be ok as a tasty treat for my fish in my established tank? Can they get parasites from eating these? I would squish them first, so not live.
  14. I'm sorry for the photo quality. This little guy is still tiny; about half the size of my pinkie nail. He came in on a plant, has a blue foot and a very dark shell, almost black, I think. Any chance anyone recognizes it? Thanks for looking! 🙂 ~Brandy
