  1. So far that doesn't seem to be a problem. I've been staying under 40 and if that's the line I'll continue at full strength and see if it stays that way. If not I'll try half strength.
  2. Bob do you know if he buys it local or if it's something he buys in bulk and has sent to him? I can't make heads or tails out of cemex's web site
  3. I think you're right. I'm testing for nitrates every week as it is so we'll see.
  4. I love this picture. It might be worth raising snails just so I can feed them the duckweed.
  5. My Nitrates are running 10 to 20. If I add Easy Green and Carbon to my tank is that going to raise my nitrates? I know there are lots of other nutrients that the plants need so I want to continue to fertilize but if it raises my nitrates and I have to do more frequent water changes doesn't that defeat the fertilizing? Would it make more sense to dose half as much?
  6. I was watching Cory's video from this morning where he talked about the 800g. He showed the hardscape the plants they put in. He talked about everything but the substrate. I'd really like to know what he used in that tank. I like the look of it.
  7. Mine's better than it was. I bought some nerite snails, I started dosing with Carbon and easy green on a regular schedule and I pull the stuff out by hand fulls when I do water changes. It seems better. There is still some but I feel like I'm on top of it. I've been at it for a month or more.
  8. It explains why I'm getting chocolates in my blue dreamer tank.
  9. Well that's pretty neat. I love when stuff like that happens.
  10. I was watching a video by someone the other day on how to breed Mystery snails. I think I might try it. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard.
  11. I agree and I'm thinking of getting more of them now that I've made sure that's what he is. I think they like to be in a group and he's in a community tank with tetras, sterbai cory's, and one cuckoo catfish.
  12. My mom had fresh water and salt water fish when I was a kid. It was so much fun to wander the LFS when I was a kid. A friend of ours had piranha in a show tank in their recroom. That was back in the 60s so the legality may have been different. Anyway even they were kind of interesting.
  13. I've read a little salt isn't a bad thing and as you say if you do water changes that would mitigate the long term effect.
  14. Thanks for the tip. I bought some plastic squares already. I'll see if it floats.
  15. Awhile ago I bought a matt of java moss. It's doing really well. My question is, when it gets really long can I take clippings and then take some thread, to secure it to the plastic squares and make another matt with the clippings? Is that how it's done?
  16. That's really neat. I love baby fish. It's so much fun watching them grow.
  17. I don't know. I will say it came to me the other thing I changed is I'm feeding them Xtreme shrimp pellets which they love. That started back in Mid April.
  18. Such a great idea. I actually have an extra 110 pipe but I'll have to order the hook.
  19. Gravel vacced and did a water change in the 75g and planted 2 dwarf lily bulbs from the co-op. A water change in the 35g hex. Nitrates were good on all the rest.
  20. She's beautiful. I'd love to have her in my 75. The video shows a lot of other fish in the tank so she must do well in a community setting.
  21. I don't necessarily understand the GH/Kh thing. I did however test my water out of the tap and it was GH/8/143.2 KH/6/107.4 My PH Is 7.4 to 7.6. Some of our water comes from an aquifer and they treat it with Sodium Hydroxide to raise the PH but I believe they also take all the minerals out. They say arsenic and Magnesium and Iron are removed when they treat it but it probably means there are no minerals at all which is why the wonder shell probably helped so much.
  22. Very pretty. Especially like the ones with the wood coming out of the top. Such a great look. Do you have to do a lot of top offs due to evaporation?
  23. At the end when your ready to harvest do the shells float to the top? Is that how you harvest from the bottom? Also do the brine shrimp need to be rinsed with fresh water before they are fed to the fish?
