I seem to remember @cory in a video saying if you leave a plant in it's pot to push a root tab in the pot. Is this for all plants? I bought one of the new planters for a Scarlet Temple. I know that ST are not root feeders but since it's stuck in a pot will it make a difference?

I'm still experimenting with what works best for me but I think what I'm going to do is, feed half a hatch of BBS one night, the other half the next night. Start another hatch right away and feed spirulina for a day. I have some Xtreme Spirulina Flakes and my fish really love them.

I've read several post saying that UV sterilizers kill algae. Is this just green water type algae or will it kill hair algae. I'll buy one tomorrow if it will kill the hair algae in my 75g.

Individual Switches multi-plug outlet power surge suppressor strip
Robin replied to braids's topic in General Discussion
I also use the smart plugs. Between plant lights and aquarium lights/filters I have 16 of them all over the house. I love them. Mine run through my phone app or Alexa. -
I just got two Staurogyne Repens from the co-op. Really nice little plants. They are in pots. Can I take them out of the pots and just plant them, rock wool and all without breaking them up? They are such small plants I'm afraid I'll damage them if I plant them individually.

Harvesting baby brine, techniques for keeping them fresh
Robin replied to Tetra Guy's topic in General Discussion
How long can brine shrimp live in a hatchery running at 81 degrees. If I siphon off enough for a feeding can't I just leave the rest till the next day? How many days in a row could I do this? I know the nutritional reasons they say to feed in the first batch but that's not always possible. -
I'll have to thin them out to get any root tabs under them. They are really thick. You're most likely right about the eco complete. It's been in there 5 years.
-
They are so dense in that section of the tank I don't know how I'd get root tabs under them. I've been thinking of pulling more of them out and putting something else in, maybe I'll do that if they continue on.
-
This tank has been set up for about five years. The Crypts are a forest and have been in the tank for two or three years. The substrate in the tank is five year old eco complete. The crypts seem to be starting to melt. I've never used any root tabs until recently for a amazon sword. I have only used Easy Green and Easy Carbon. Could it be the crypts also need root tabs?

I don't know if this would work but if what you like is the Co--ops sponge, maybe take the filter apart and put the Co-op sponge on whatever filter you're already using. Swap out the sponge part.

I try to change it up but mostly flakes. What I'm going to do is switch to bbs mostly with an addition of sinking bug bites, ect and occasionally some repashy. They mostly hang out behind this huge piece of wood I have in the corner. I have a piece of pcv that I can use to drop food back to where they are most often.

This tells you how bad I am about over feeding. I have those coarse sponges on my intakes and inside my Hob's and it still gets icky. I have sterbai, fat ones, and a cuckoo catfish and I worry they don't get enough to eat. 🙂

If you haven't done bbs before you might start out small with one of those table units or one of Dean's DIY's set ups so you don't invest a lot until you see if you like it.

I don't know about more accurate but I feel like I end up with less mess than I do with flakes and less floating around not eaten like I do with other kinds of food.

Thanks. Part of my problem is I'm an over feeder but if I can get that under control I'll be able to do as you say. I'm going to start feeding primarily bbs so that might help.

I've been watching my water parameters to try and do water changes when it's necessary not when I "feel" like I should. My question is, would cleaning the HOBs even when the water parameters look good, help keep the parameters stable longer?

What is the best advice you have ever gotten?

Be patient. Too much too fast in an aquarium usually ends in disaster. -
Plants to grow out of filter besides pothos
Robin replied to siniardem's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I love this idea. I would not have thought of trying something from seed in the HOB. Someone mentioned a sweet potato as well and that isn't something that would have occurred to me either. -
I use an Aqueon 10 watt heater with a temperature controller. I rinse everything else off so why not the heater? I don't mind.

I'm going to buy the strips and if they show an appreciable problem I'll double check it with the liquid test kit.

I bought 5lbs of the caribsea naturals peace river just to see what the size and color looked like. Now I wish I'd bought the 20lb bag. Can't wait to try it in a tank.

I saw somewhere, not sure where now that you can clip wisteria back and back and it will spread as a carpet. Is this practical and has anyone tried it? I've got some in one of my 10g and it's growing really well. I would like a carpet (ground cover) without having to resort to CO2 and I like the look of wisteria quite a bit.
