  1. Thank you. Very informative. When I get my lights up next week I'm going to try something like this. I like the extra hook just for safety sake.
  2. Is there any way we could get a picture of the pots themselves? I would really like to see that setup.
  3. Seconds on Hirts. They are great. I also have ordered plants from them with good results. My only comment on wandering jew is that in my experience if they don't get a lot of direct light they get leggy.
  4. I have a desktop computer and a tv in the same room with my tanks. I have outlet bars all over the place. So far I'm not blowing circuits. In my next life there will be outlets every two feet.
  5. This is odd but we have an outlet in the ceiling. It connects to a light switch but I'll most likely put a smart plug in. I was going to put in some track lighting that can be plugged in but decided it's too limiting so I ordered some lights that are on what looks like a long rope, 3 lights on 22ft so I can move them where ever I want to put a hook in the ceiling. This way I can put lights above the tanks in select spots. I had to buy separate shades and they are cone like so they will act like spot lights and hopefully not add too much light to the tank itself. I don't need more hair algae.
  6. I've got a spider plant started in one of my HOBs. Don't know how it will do long term but so far so good. I just ordered lights for that side of the room because like you most of the light is in the tank and not much above it.
  7. I have 2 AquaClears on my 75g. They are plugged into smart plugs so I can turn them off through my phone app when I feed the fish. The app has a timer so I just set it for 5 min and they come right back on. The only time I have to prime them is when I do a water change. My other tanks all have aquaclears as well, except for one of the 10s has a nano tank filter I got from the co-op to try out.
  8. I'm playing with safe-T-Sorb in a 10g. I like the look of it. No fish in it yet as I didn't pre soak it as Bentley suggested but I did give it a high dose of ferts when I set it up so the nitrates are high. So far so good except for a bit of hair algae. The wisteria is growing like a weed and the moss is doing well. I put in a scarlet temple but it hasn't been in there long enough to see how it's going to do. My next 10g redo I'm going to try medium grade sand and the one after that I'll try Bentley's suggestion of the peace river. I like the sound of that. By then maybe the 40's will be on sale and I'll have an idea of which I like the best.
  9. This is a great idea. I think I may try this as well.
  10. co-op sells plant weights. I've bought different brands and these are by far the best.
  11. I've got one that looks like that. I think it's wisteria. The water sprite I bought from the coop is feathery. Reminds of of carrot tops.
  12. I can see why only two Angels in that size tank. I'm assuming you could still put a few corys or a few kuhli loaches in with them.
  13. Would a 40g be too small for a few of these beautiful angels?
  14. I seem to get better results when I added a wondershell once a month. Gives the water more minerals ect.
  15. Thank you for all this information. I saw some seedlings for sale and I think I'll give them a shot. It should be an interesting experiment.
  16. They stay alive in the fridge? Huh. I like that idea of feeding everything out in 24hrs.
  17. I finally feel like I'm doing a reasonable job of hatching brine shrimp. This last hatch has a pretty good hatch rate, considering these eggs have been in the fridge/freezer for quite some time. I'd say 80%? I'll muddle a long with them until their gone. My question is, how are you adding them to the tank? Once they go through the sieve and they're washed off, if you do that, do you wave the sieve in the tank? Do you have some standby tank water and add them to that and then use a pipette to add them to the tank? If you freeze the left over do you use tank water or plain tap water? Everyone shows how to hatch the brine shrimp but they don't explain how they go from there. I'd love to hear people's process.
  18. Has anyone had any experience with these plants, in or out of an aquarium?
  19. I've done a couple silly things. I went to clean the glass tops on all my tanks and didn't have a spare table to lay them on while I cleaned them and promptly stepped on the glass and snapped it. I've done it at least twice. After the second time I bought a folding card table just so I'd have something to take from one room to the next so as to keep them up off the floor. Duh. Also several months ago I pulled out a half a forest of Crypts in my 75g without replacing it with anything else. About the same time I upgraded my light to a Fluval 3.0 and promptly had hair algae everywhere. Took me a month to realize what I'd done. I still have a bit but it's on the down slope. Now I do everything is slow increments.
  20. I did the same thing to a pea puffer one time. He came through it just fine.
  21. If you had a planted only tank and you fertilized it a little heavy to get it started, would the plants eventually bring the nitrates down without water changes?
  22. Thank you. I've been having trouble for a couple days and thought I was the only one and it was bugging me trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Thanks again.
