  1. I tell you, if we could find Honey Gouramis locally, that would be my choice. A pair would look gorgeous in that tank.
  2. I'm seriously considering a porch pond so I can keep it shaded. On a hot summer day I'm afraid I'd have fish soup!
  3. Recently our AC went out and we had a day or two when we were running fans on the tanks, but usually its not a big deal because I keep my AC set to arctic freeze inside 😉 We get maybe a month of what most would consider winter, so its quite mild.
  4. Quite rural, as our town is about 6k population. We have very hot and humid summers with today's high being about 32c. (10:30am right now) We have 3 nano-tanks. A betta bachelor pad, a 5 gallon with some green neons and snails, and a 3 gallon with 5 Celestial Peral Danios.
  5. I'm from Southeast Texas, near the Louisiana border and the Gulf Coast in an area known as the Big Thicket. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Thicket We actually have a very highly biodiverse ecosystem. In Texan, we'd say: "We got a lot of neat critters and bushes!" As far as fish stores, we're pretty limited. We have Petco and Petsmart within about 45 minutes of our house, with LFS being about an hour or more. Edited to add a pic taken in the Roy E. Larson Sandyland Sanctuary about a mile from my house.
  6. I have one in a 5 gallon, and its a LITTLE large, but it works great. I wouldn't use it in a 2.5g.
  7. Personally I really dig it. That piece of wood is gorgeous. One tiny thing I've learned in my smaller tanks is for my preferences, I stopped using white or really light substrate. We switched to Pisces Midnight Pearl and it has a great natural look without showing every algae spot and fish turd 😉 I've been pondering using hornwort (is that what I see in yours?) but I get scared when I hear about how it gets out of control lol
  8. We may very well go with the short fin variety, thanks!
  9. Awesome to hear that they get along with the Zebras! I may end up with males too if that's all they have.
  10. Welcome Kaylon, I look forward to seeing your tanks!
  11. Just add it right in. 1 drop per gallon I believe. Our bottle didn't have a dropper, so we just poked a hole in the safety seal with a pen so we can add drops.
  12. You've already gotten great advice, but I just want to also tell you we've had great luck with Prime during ammonia/nitrite spikes. It's a product I keep handy now, and always will.
  13. Welcome! In our betta tank we use a nano-sponge filter with a simple air control valve in the tubing so we can dial back the bubbles. I'm a big fan of bettas, so I'd love to see yours!
  14. A quick update, the tank is now well cycled and parameters have been stable. Having this tank has taught us a lot about the nitrogen cycle (and also made us discover we have about 1ppm Ammonia in our tap water). The 5 CPDs seem super happy and healthy, albeit not so keen on photos. They are starting to grow and really show some great color now. We have more tangerine tigers on the way now that the water is stable and we are using a far more trusted seller, so lets hope that Shrimp 2 Electric Boogaloo is more successful. I don't want to kill anymore of them!
  15. We did give it a root tab when we kicked off ours.
  16. Wow, that is really slow growth. We have one that is two weeks old that is going nuts with growth and its an unheated tank. Does it have some nitrates?
  17. Howdy fellow Texan! Welcome.
  18. Well I know you can get cheaper shipping through Aquahuna if I'm not mistaken, but they are out of chilis at the moment. I know what you mean about them being beautiful fish, we've been wanting to keep them.
  19. Thinking of going with Eco-Complete for our 10 gallon, what effect does it have on PH, etc? We already have harder water so Im curious if it changes your parameters.
