    Ooops, yes, Nitrate.

    Spots?

Afternoon/morning all. Few days ago I have spotted a white dot on one of my Angel's body, today, while cleaning and changing water I have spotted another on the gills cover, size wise they are the size of a pin head and slightly raised from the body of the fish, the other fish (its mate) is clean. There are no other symptoms or markings on the fish. These are the only 2 fish in a 10gl. tank. Water parameters are all '0' with Nitrite at 50ppm. Any idea? Thanks.
  3. Really don't know, I avoided them. But if you want them try to see if you can smoothen the edges with a file or the black stone that is being used to sharpen knifes (forgot what it's called).
  4. Inlet and outlet on the same side panel, inlet bottom left while outlet spray head top right. The outlet flow is directed at about 60-70 degrees towards the front panel, this creates a downwards flow towards the substrate as well as a circular flow towards the inlet probe at the bottom. A secondary effect is X2 flow regimes; fast flow at the front and slow at the back allowing two different environments to the fish.
  5. Am sorry to read this, however a question that maybe someone can answer. Will Formalin clear the bacteria? Years ago I used to add it to my tank as a precaution. Thanks
  6. I buy them at the LFS and feed them. The fish go mad.
  7. It depends on the point of view. From your point of view Silver Dollars and Angel fish. From the Oscar's point of view Guppies and Neons 😉
  8. @Fish Folk First, thanks for your response. The 400ltr is running as of Feb so I would say that it is well cycled. The filters in both tanks use the same media size so I plan to remove some sponges from the 400 to the 200 and a week later to move the fish from the 400ltr into the 200ltr. The Bosmani are not fully grown but they are not far of it, they just start to show their colors, the angel are 3" & 4" high (body only without the fins). The Bosmani and angels are not in the same tank but the water parameters are the same and I keep all the tanks at 24C (75F). I know that the Bosmani likes higher temp which will be increased once the fish split. If you mean the water PH and GH/KH then yes, the Angles are soft water fish but they are doing very well in mine PH 8 water, spawn and delivered free swimming fry.
  9. I don't know if you can get Oase tanks and don't know your budget, Oase are top quality but cost accordingly. HighLine aquariums (oase.com)
  10. Hi all. I would like to ask for your opinion and advice. Currently I have 5 tanks and quarantine containers. My 200ltr tank should arrive in a week or two and I am looking to move fish around and to end with 2 or 3 tanks. I was thinking about the mix as below and will appreciate your thoughts. 400ltr. (110gl) tank to include: 1. Crossocheilus reticulatus / Fishnet Flying Fox X6 2. Emperor Tetra / Nematobrycon palmeri X8 3. Angel Fish X3 4. Celebs Rainbow / Marosatherina ladigesi X10 5. Sterbai Cory X6 6. Adolfo's Cory X6 7. Bosemans Rainbow/ Melanotaenia boesemani X5 8. Melanotaenia Sahulensis X4 9. Yellow Rainbow / Melantaenia herbertaxelrodi X3 10. Western Rainbow / Melanotaenia Australis X6 11. Blue Rainbow / Melanotaenia lacustris X6 12. Neon Rainbowfish / Melanotaenia praecox X6 200ltr (53gl) tank to include: 1. White Cloud Minnow X7 2. Gold Cloud Minnow X5 3. Hengeli Rasbora X8 4. Threadfin Rainbowfish / Iriatherina werneri X6 5. Forktail Blue-eye Rainbow / Pseudomugil furcatus X14 6. Sewellia lineolata / Tiger Hillstream Loach X1 Currently the Pseudomugil furcatus are in a 30ltr cube tank with several shrimps. Would you leave them there or move them to the larger 200ltr tank? In the future I aim to add to the 400ltr. Congo Tetra / Phenacogrammus interruptus and Banded Rainbow M. Trifasciata. What do you think? Any other suggestions or changes? Thank you.
  11. I also had fry that was eaten by the parents, the shop told me to "let nature and parents look after them". An advice that I got from an ex. breeder is to wait until you can see the fry wiggle outside of the eggs, then to move the adults, use a sponge filter and feed fry food (like Hikari First bite). Am waiting for more eggs now.
  12. Thank you Cory and Guppysnail. I also didn't think that green turns red but no, I don't think that there were any babies because all are the same size...unless, the green has died without us noticing and the baby hatched a while ago and just grew quietly in the shadows.
  13. We had 3 Amano, 4 Cheery 1 Bee and one Green with a florescent line on the back. Today I have cleaned and changed water in all my tanks, this caused all shrimps to come out so we could count them. The green shrimp disappeared but instead of 4 Cherry shrimps now we have 5. Does it make sense that it has changed its colour?
  14. Hmmm, I think that the answer was given already. It is decomposing food in he tank, in other words over feeding.
  15. Which breed is it? I used to have X2 Greys but had to put one down last year as it had cancer. Loved it to bits and took me many months to pick my self of the floor. It was super intelligent , always new what it wants and sked for it, we even had several logical conversations. Mega birds but hard work.
  16. I guess that your tank is too small for the Flying Fox as it grows large and also becomes more aggressive and territorial as it mature. As for the Gourami, don't know, usually they are very peaceful. You might want to try therapy 😉.
  17. Lovely fish, I agree. One of them and the last to die was named 'Fatty', it had such a tummy, eating non stop. They didn't touch any of the fancy food that I bought, only cucumber (they used to make hole in it), diatoms and algae. I had them for 4 months and then...one by one. Today I bought X6 Crossocheilus reticulatus and X1 Tiger Hillstream Loach (will get more over time).
  18. I used to have 6 Otos, lost 2 few months ago, during the last 6 weeks I have lost the rest, one day that have just stopped eating. Water parameters are very good and I change water on a regular basis. I think that I am done with this fish.
  19. Tonyjuliano Take it as nothing more than as a 'salvo above', a warning shot, not necessarily to you in person (although directed at you) but to all who participate. As for me, a beginner in the hobby everything I read is a bonus, the problem that I have is that at the end I don't know what should I follow and believe and what is nothing more than old wives tells so come on guys, keep on teaching me/us. I hope that I am intelligent enough to draw my own conclusions. Thank you all.
  20. HH Morant I came across the site due to a post in this forum and learnt lots from it. I don't follow everything he says but at least it is due to understanding rather than parroting. It is a very good site indeed.
  21. @aehageman Just to help you a bit 😇 8.5. Under Gravel Filters (aquariumscience.org)
  22. from Aquariumscience.org: 4, Over Cleaning the Filter If you are cleaning your biofilter media more than once every four months to a year, you need to stop. The brown gunk in the filter is good beneficial bacteria and shouldn’t be cleaned until it plugs up. Actual testing of a sponge filter confirmed that a thorough cleaning is a very bad thing to do to a filter. Click on the following link for some interesting test data: 6.8. Thorough Cleaning (aquariumscience.org)
  23. Had to remove a fish in a rush as it was attacked and injured. I had no spare filter so had to create one fast. I bought an air sponge filter and dumped it into a bucket full of mucky water from another tank that was cleaned earlier, on top, I also attached with elastic bands a small sponge that I keep on the bottom at another tank, had no issues and water parameters are good. The fish survived recovered and back to normal behavior so I am happy.
