  1. I love cherry barbs. They do like cooler waters though. Low 70s is about as warm as they like it but they can stand a bit warmer.
  2. How long are you going to be on vacation? Fish can go an incredibly long time without food. Things like those big clumpy feeders are more likely to clog up your filters and kill your fish as opposed to feeding them. If you're concerned then you should maybe feed them an extra meal a day for a week or so before you leave. But if you don't they should be fine.
  3. Frozen brine shrimp and frozen brine shrimp with spirulina should be great for Swords. Mine also like frozen blood worms. Really anything they can fit in their mouths they eat.
  4. I 2nd otos. I like odd numbers so I'd go with 7 but that's just personal preference They're great. I'd personally get about 10 to 15 more tetras. As far as plants go I say you just get what you like. You didn't specify what your light is but if it's fairly standard then you have plenty of options.
  5. The main plant seems dead but it's definitely spreading. Personally I would just leave it because I'm lazy but you can cut the dead parts down. Don't uproot it though.
  6. I think that is the leaves and not the roots. Yours is doing better than mine. I'd leave it be.
  7. I've never heard of this before. What do you feed them and how often do you feed them?
  8. Java fern is pretty bullet proof and so are most mosses. Java and anubias shouldn't be buried. Tie or glue them to rocks and drift wood. Crypts are great plants too. They come in colors from green to deep red. You usually only get those deep reds with very high light and Co2 but if you don't have that kind of setup those red plants won't die, they'll just turn back to green. Those are all my go-to plants.
  9. Anubias and java fern basically get nothing from the substrate so I would invest in liquid ferts that they can absorb in the water column. Both are very hardy plants though so they should be just fine for quite a while. It isn't any kind of emergency situation.
  10. I'd have to go count. At least two dozen if I include all my frozen and freeze dried food. Personally I feel like giving fish a variety of foods makes them healthier and happier. Who wants to eat the same meal or two or three for their entire life?
  11. The smallest tank I've ever had a successful breeding pair of angels in was a 25 gallon tall and I feel they definitely would've liked more room. So I gotta say 29 at least but a 40 breeder would be even better.
  12. Honestly. Neither. I'd go with some other South/Central American cichlids that won't get so big and aggressive that they try to kill your oscars. Jack Dempseys and Convicts to name just 2 options that should be fine. Maybe some pike cichlids. That's what I would personally do anyway.
  13. Plants respond favorably to red light, but so does algae. Blue lights are basically just algae farms. Plants get basically nothing from blue light.
  14. I dose about 3x the recommendation of Flourish excel for a couple weeks. It starts breaking down and turning white. My ottos and snails clean it right up at that point. Excel will kill thin leaf plants like vals and hornwart so you do have to be careful. It's kind of a trial and error thing at first.
  15. I think adding another near each sword won't hurt anything. Swords get all their nutrients through their roots. It sounds like yours have been pretty starved out. A little extra goodness should only help them recover more quickly.
  16. Yes. Take everything out. The medicine needs to cycle through the water.
  17. Aquahuna are fresh water. Pretty much anything from East Asia are raised in salt water.... I've never ordered from the East but I'm sure you can find breeders that have guarantees. This is really not something I'm very educated about.
  18. I'd give them maracyn and paracleanse..... or just take them back to the store..... I never do that, but that's me. Also look up the video about Guppies. Maybe they came from really salty water so adding some salt could help them.
  19. What is wrong with your fish? This is the first thing we should figure out before out just bomb your aquarium with meds.
  20. Take all filter pads or cartridges out. The easy green would probably be fine but I would not use it for a week. The plants should be fine without it. Add the water conditioner after the water change and just wait.
  21. I'm Mike. I've had fish since I was 6 or 7 years old (I'm 38). I've dabbled in a lot but I really like cichlids and live bearers the most. I've bred some egg layers and now that I'm finally making a dedicated fish room I plan on trying some more. I was the secretary of our local club for 4 years and the Vice President for 2 (then covid hit). I feel like I know quite a bit about fish but I'm always looking forward to know more. I'm also very willing to give you my advice and listen to your fish keeping ways.
  22. How big are they? I have leeches in some of my tanks. They don't attach to my fish and suck their blood or anything. They might be harmless.
  23. No. Mystery snails will just make more snails. A snail eating loach or assassin snails will work. Less feeding can also lessen the population.
  24. Yes. Remove everything. You don't want any type of filtration to stop the medication from cycling through the tank. Don't turn off filters or bubblers or anything like that. The fish still need water movement for oxygen, but the filter cartridges will kill the medication.
