  1. I wouldn't beat yourself up over 40 PPM especially since it's coming from fertilizer.
  2. I don't know why this is hard for me to find on the interwebs but here is my question. I have what I believe is a Marineland 20 gallon long, bought from Petsmart. I purchased a Versatop glass lid for it back when I originally bought the tank. It fits perfect except for the plastic backstrip, it doesn't go all of the way to the back of the tank. Does anyone know if I purchased the replacement Marineland backstrip would it fit the Versatop lid as far as glass thickness? None of my LFS seem to sell replacement lid parts so I have to order them online and hate ordering just to see if it works. Thanks!
  3. Very nice tank and photography, especially that first picture.
  4. There's no imbalance in my water and my Nerites will go above the water line and sit or roam around randomly. Even when I had a place for them to get out I kept the water line low so they definitely didn't have to keep going. A few times I found them chilling feet away from the tank.
  5. I can't speak for mystery snails but I do have a couple Nerite snails that liked to go for a walk every now and then. I couldn't figure out why so I did some research by reading a few websites on Nerites. Apparently they are considered "tidal" snails so they are use to periods of being out of water and also like to dry their shells out much like certain turtles. They can also live around a month out of water. I always left the water a couple inches below the top of the tank to give them a place to chill, that's where I find them when they aren't in the water. I also closed the opening that I thought was too small for them to get out of.
  6. That's funny. One thing about Fritz ACCR. I emailed them to ask if ACCR works for Nitrates and Nitrites like their Complete does and they said no. They also stated basically what Complete does beyond dechlorinate is an accidental side effect of the chemicals. Lol
  7. Good luck with them. I just got my first Cory's this weekend, green aeneus cory. Wish I would have got them a long time ago, awesome fish.
  8. I had the same issue after buying a replacement tune up kit. I called Fluval to ask them about this and they ended sending me a free kit. Never even asked how old the filter was. The new impeller cover did finally stay on but I then changed the impeller again some time after this. I threw out the old cover and started using the new cover and guess what? It falls off again. Lol I press so hard on that cover and hear it click and somehow it still falls off.
  9. Oh and sorry if I'm nitpicking but MSDS were all changed to SDS back in 2015. Lol sorry. 😇
  10. I don't see why he wouldn't. To me it doesn't seem he trying to hide anything. He even states that he kept all of his expirements very easy to replicate at home if someone was skeptical of his conclusions.
  11. You and a few other people I come a cross believe Dave has a beef with Seachem but I don't completely understand why. Yes he does pick on some Seachem products but he also picks on other companies products as well. I'll mention Prime since that is what this thread is about. He clearly states that he believes that Prime works great detoxifying Chlorine and Chloramine but doesn't agree that is possible to do anything to Ammonia, Nitrites or Nitrates. He actually states that people should "not" stop using this product. He also clearly uses readings from Seachems dot test products so he must agree that they work as advertised.
  12. There is no governing body that regulates the fish industry, at least not chemicals. Companies can claim anything they want without fear of legal issues.
  13. Unfortunately yes. When I spoke to API they were going to send me a new Nitrate test kit but I had already bought one. When you don't shake them before using it since it's a compound chemical you don't know if more of one compound was used more then the other compound(s).
  14. I don't do water changes on cycling tanks. When the cycling is done I then do a water change to lower the excess nitrates.
  15. If you're reading zero Nitrates with the API liquid test kit unfortunately you did something wrong. I caught myself years ago not shaking the 2nd bottle as per the directions so I was getting zero nitrates. I spoke to API about it and since the 2nd bottle is a chemical compound if you use it once without shaking the whole bottle is compromised.
