  1. Hello all, I have a 100 gallon outdoor aquaponics pond that has started reading high chlorine levels over the past weeks. I’ve treated the entire pond with prime a couple times, but the readings always come back with high chlorine. Water changes are done very rarely and new water is added mostly by rainfall. Fish seem fine they are eating vigorously and have no signs of external issues (I even pulled a few out to inspect closer in a see through container) I am very confused as to if I actually have high chlorine, or if there is something else in the water that could be causing those readings.
  2. My bristlenose pleco males will guard and fan the eggs until they hatch, but after that they are on their own. Seems like the apistos might be the way to go!
  3. Hello all, I’m looking for suggestions for my next breeding project. Specifically, I’m looking for fish that have strong parental instincts for their fry. I’d like something that can be kept in a 20 long or smaller. Thanks!
  4. So after some research I think these are Cuban tree frog eggs (which is an invasive species in the keys). Gonna sink/ remove as many as I can and hope my goldfish devour any survivors.
  5. Hopefully my goldfish eat the tadpoles. It would look like the 2nd plague from the book of exodus if all of these things make it 😂
  6. No there is no glob of jelly. If I lift them out of the water and set them back down they sink to the bottom. If they are frog eggs hopefully my goldfish will eat the tadpoles
  7. Hello all, went to feed my 100 gallon outdoor aquaponics pond today and I found these black orbs all over the surface of the water. Any idea what they could be? My current stock is guppies, swordtails, and sarasa comet goldfish. Initially I thought goldfish eggs? I live in the FL keys where they pond temp is usually 80-85F, I would think it’s way too hot for them to spawn. Any input is appreciated!
  8. This guy has been kicking forever he’s starting to develop what I think is swim bladder issues, what do y’all think? Still eating and swimming all over the tank he just has a hard time leveling himself out.
  9. Thanks for the responses! Seems like the general consensus is a 20 is too much for the wire racks. The gladiator racks are alittle out of my price range. Does anyone have the blueprints for a double stacked 20 long rack from 2x4s?
  10. Hello all, has anyone ever used the 5 shelf wire racks from amazon for fish tanks? It says they are rated up to 350lbs per shelf, and a 20 gallon long fits very nicely onto the shelf. I’ve heard 20 longs are 225lbs with water so I have some wiggle room. Substrate will be a thin layer of sand with clay potted plants I plan on putting a piece of plywood across the wire shelving so the tank has a flat surface to sit on.
  11. Do you keep a single fish or are they better in a group? How many did you keep and in what size tank?
  12. Hello all! I’m considering an oddball predator tank (specifically albino bichir and leopard ctenopomas). Curious on the communities thoughts on if the 2 species would be compatible and other things to consider such as tank size/setups. Im also interested in breeding if I went with only one of the species. I’d love to see setups anyone currently has for this type of tank. I am open to different species suggestions as well! Thanks!
  13. I feed spirulina powder occasionally when the water is clear. What is the link for?
  14. Hello all, I am trying to get a small brine shrimp culture going that I can harvest out of every 1-2 days. It only needs to be enough to feed 4 Pygmy sunfish. Currently I’m using a 2 gallon container. Substrate is crushed coral for added minerals/bacteria surface area. I haven’t done any water changes in months and nitrates still read 0. I am having an issue where the shrimp start dying off after 2-3 days of hatching. I am still adding eggs to the culture 1-2x a week. Any tips for keeping the shrimp alive? Thanks!
  15. I have 4 fairly new Siamese algae eaters in my 40 breeder, and I just watched 2 of them get into what looks like a little disagreement. They completely lost their stripes for about 3 minutes. Any thoughts on this? I always thought these fish were super peaceful. Last few seconds of the video show the other 2 chilling at the bottom scavenging and displaying dark stripes. I did clean my intake filter a few hours earlier and the water became cloudy from a bacteria bloom I’m thinking. First bloom I’ve had since setting up this tank a year ago.
