  1. What light are you using on what size of tank? Sometimes this happens when plants grow taller they shade the bottom and the stems rot from not getting enough light down there.
  2. Do you know if your water softener affects your outdoor hose? I know a lot of houses it doesn't and the first thing we recommend is aging hose water to come up to temp for people with this problem.
  3. I've only ever done the reds outside. Every year I mean to do more outside, and then get too busy 😞
  4. If you're asking about our sunday video giveaway, you'll be notified on the comment you left on the video. If you win something here on the forum, you'd be notified via the forum post.
  5. Well swordtails are a hard water fish, so you'll want to keep the hardness. pH being "about" 7.0 could be a bit low, Ideally it'd be 7.5 or higher for swordtails, but 7.0 is considered the bottom of what they can thrive in my personal experience.
  6. You may need to put more root tabs under the amazon swords. I've had them eat 10+ root tabs for 1 large plant every month. As far as keeping nitrogen up, it looks that by testing your plants are consuming it. One thing I'd mention is that you're dosing kno3, however without the other building blocks you won't get optimal growth if you are lacking other nutrients. This is why fertilizers are typically more than just KNo3, as plants need a range of nutrients to grow.
  7. Nice work, the sunlight really helps color up cherry shrimp I've found in previous years when I've done it. I also found out that here in washington I can overwinter cherry shrimp with about 2 inches of ice on top of the pond. Not sure if they can withstand anything more harsh.
  8. Have you checked out our article on cloudy water yet? This covers a lot of first steps to figuring out what might be causing it. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/cloudy-fish-tank
  9. I suspect large goldfish would. I'm growing out the fry from my 800g spawn they had, and they are about 3 inches right and don't seem to be touching any of the guppy grass yet.
  10. Easy carbon will work the same as flourish excel. It's a long road to retarding the algae that way. Usually dosing some of that combined efforts with manual removal and some fish or inverts to help get it under control is the best method I've found for dealing with it long term.
  11. Are you dosing fertilizers into the water column? Stem plants are primarily water column feeders.
  12. I'd look into any shadows being created in the tank. Plants on the ends could help if the motion is coming from there. But usually it's a motion outside of the tank thing, whether it's shadows or not. Having it brighter in the tank than outside in the room can help cut down on that. Puffers have good vision and can see up to 30 feet outside of an aquarium. Something as simple as a TV with flashing colors can do it from previous experience.
  13. I personally don't keep anything specific in a quarantine tank. I just let mulm hang out from the last batch of fish.
  14. I did some testing about 10 years ago now, and found it very beneficial to run about 1 teaspoon of marine salt per 20 gallons of water when doing 50% water changes. I never finished my testing to figure out a formula that would work well for lots of different types of water parameters and such, but you might use that as a starting point.
  15. Lets start with the tanks water parameters? Especially pH, hardness and nitrates.
  16. Time seems to be the thing that needs to happen. If it starts getting worse, I personally would try a QT tank with salt as that is a good general anti fungal/bacterial aid over a long period of time.
  17. I've never heard of Mebendazole, I've used both Fenbendazole and Flubendazole to deworm before.
  18. Sometimes they can break their jaw if they run into something or are lip locking and fighting with other cichlids. Unfortunately I don't know of anything a hobbyist can do to repair this.
  19. Hi Gerald, Now that clout is off the market, we use Dimilin to treat anchor worm. I find it on ebay. It comes in super concentrated bottles there where like 1 ml treats 500 gallons and is a pain to work with. However we have found dimilin to be effective at treating it. Perhaps you can find something less powerful in dosage.
  20. Hello Everyone, Unfortunately I am locking down this thread because it discusses things that are outlined in the guidelines that we don't discuss on this forum. That would be competing companies both positively or negatively. I don't like having to be a cop, however running a forum in where talking about our competitors either positively or negatively is bad for business. We are here to discuss most aspects of the hobby with the limitation it can be a negative to our business if we are investing resources to provide this resource to everyone. Thank you
  21. This is called loc line, they used to make it so there was a bendable spray bar, but I'm not seeing it pop up on a few websites currently, may be discontinued.
  22. This video has links to what we used and shows it/how to do it.
  23. A fun idea, however we won't want to open ourselves up to the liabilities that go with it. It also goes against our bottom line. There is always drama, of X, had Y algae or pest, or disease. It also takes away from the primary goal of this forum and that's discussing topics. It'll also bring people in who just want to abuse the plant swap. Even on a local level I couldn't get people to not try and milk the system....
  24. The wall of closets came out last night and fireplace coming out today.
