What did you get done today?

Spent a little time with the outdoor pond. Dropped the lily planters off their supports to about 4 inches deeper to the bottom of the pond. Also added fertilizer to their planters. And added a new ground cover plant to the right side of the raised bed.

My kids also found a tiny gecko friend who will now "live" on our lime tree.

Fed some homemade frozen then freshly thawed baby brine shrimp! I don’t know how people go through all the BBS in one go unless you have @Dean’s Fishroom, @Coryor @Randysetups! Then did some tank maintenance- 4 water changes last night and another 4 this AM. Trimmed some plants and distributed some guppy grass, hornwort and some baby lotus plants from my giant plant in my display. C22B4D41-B6D0-4956-A6FA-202A092B1411.jpeg.42b05c152c8039fcbeb2252342501b16.jpeg06EC920A-55A4-40F7-B564-3404B9E732EA.jpeg.62837eeaf0f8eee76ce4cd075dc45539.jpegA187012D-3EBA-4A31-9D5B-1F383C4C1E5A.jpeg.9338644e1023f5bd3515cbdeb1ee3e4a.jpeg6F2096D3-963C-458C-A260-A6E91518B40F.jpeg.1e2dc869c6da4413020c0c07b0ba78f5.jpegBB697FFA-7AB3-4E86-938B-456144CD94AE.jpeg.a6f0b96ffa521b180017e367cd4102ba.jpeg05390B67-C077-4697-81F7-51B968A89552.jpeg.5dd1f4daf10e5023150e062d3e7cd0b7.jpeg797F99D6-8A22-4497-8310-D54486D1D3A5.jpeg.540b19e60ec166ac51c898096cdbfd46.jpeg05B2378B-B1BF-481D-9464-013E8721248E.jpeg.b3713344cde855061f388155d900182c.jpeg0312DC25-232C-45ED-8288-FB96E6A6E303.jpeg.3f898088e543dc6e635ac3f4000bd34b.jpegAE79A627-21A8-4D55-8F5B-CA7F8B6F8E18.jpeg.b9c6f13ec6643b35fda6ea91aa714ccd.jpegDA40574C-813A-4A41-B407-602AF67C9FF5.jpeg.12f34d10b753aaa12df55a19f724df74.jpeg

Got to step two of my 75 gallon redo.  Removed all the gravel.  It wasn’t a lot since it started out in shelves that were planted, silly me thinking my Jack Dempseys would leave the plants alone just because they weren’t on the bottom.  Then siphoned out as much crud as I could.  Scraped all the sides and bottom (was very overdue).

First step got done yesterday.  Received my jungle Val (may not be enough) and got it planted on pots (dirt capped with sand) then layered with big pebbles (1-1.5” rocks).  Those are hanging out in my main plant grow out tank until the Val’s are rooted well (may be weeks to months).

Now waiting to get supplies (and for plants to grow).

Did a major substrate cleaning, water change, and trimmed some of the ugly, scraggly, moss-intertwined-into-roots ludwiga. Uprooted every bit of my ludwiga so I could trim it all down and I'm slowly but surely removing all the christmas moss that took hold in every bit of the tank. Still gotta make a pass with the glass cleaner and then wipe down the exterior, then wait for the water to clear back up. If I could do it all again, I definitely would not have made a complete stand and canopy for this stupid 5 gallon pea puffer tank lol.

I bought a new tank! I've wanted to treat myself with a rimless for a while. I've had aspirations to put a lot of energy into aquascaping a tank for the past 4-6 months but hadnt bought the bullet yet.

Previously, I had built two 4 foot aquarium tables for the fish room. I mostly hobbled together 5 and 10 gallon tanks that I had found on the side of the road. Well, I was at the fish store and saw this weird sized tank that seems perfect. 4ftx 14inx14in. It both fit my table and seemed like a good tank to get some rainbowfish! Hoping to put some Rhads in here after I can verfiy that this tank would be a good fit for them.

I've ordered a fluval 3.0, some new input/outputs for an ehiem filter I've had and will be hardscape shopping/planning over the next few weeks. Super EXCITED : ) Will keep yall posted

This is the perfect way to start a journal!

I hate waiting for days and days before I can see *any* changes!  I should have most of what I need in the next week or so.  I’ll put it all together then.  I’ll still be able to post progress pics since I’ll have lots of plants to mature.  I always have to fiddle and fine tune, too.

@DipDingle@Phantom240, @Odd Duck, please add a journal link to your signature.

Now if I could only figure out *how* to make a signature.  I took a pic of your instructions but can’t even find the “signature” spot!  🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Edit to say, “Found it!”

Thanks Theresa! I will keep an eye out for anyone getting stuck. I was trying to use cotton embroidery thread at first, but it disintegrated before the moss could take hold. Superglued was definitely a second choice. The fishing line is plan C. 😆 I think part of the problem is the plecos munch the wood underneath the moss so it doesn’t have time to really root. Then again, the moss wouldn’t stick before I had plecos either. 😝 The plastic netting could be the way to go! Or I might just give up. The moss looks terrible there anyway. 😂

In my personal experience with moss (a combination of words I never could have anticipated using), I haven't been able to get it to grow anywhere on purpose. I attempted to get some Java moss to attach to a few different objects, including the nifty coconut bridges from the Co-op, but no dice. Even the moss that came attached to the assorted objects died slowly and sadly, and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong because other nearby plants were flourishing under the same conditions. About a month ago, after I'd thought it was long gone, I noticed that a few strands of the aforementioned Java moss had established themselves on a chunk of mopani wood in my frog tank, but I still can't get it to grow anywhere else. Go figure. 🤔

Hikari first bites please save my babies!

I'm not familiar with first bites, but I've discovered that any pellet-style food can be ground as fine as flour using a pill crusher. (Or put it in a ziploc and tap it with a hammer or other object.) Just mentioning that in case it helps.

Went to ADA LFS yesterday to help a friend make the transition from aquaponics to planted aquarium, and, well, had to get some plants. 🤪

In quarantine for now, Süsswassertang, Melon sword (Echinodorus osiris) and Salvinia (Salvinia auriculata).

I have some of that in Qt right now for my P-Salt tank.  I didn't realize how much süßwassertang would feel like that plastic easter basket grass.  That or, I was sold a bunch of plastic...  Also, it holds together less well than I had imagined.  Weird stuff!
