    That’s a pretty good name! Animal farm was my favorite book when I was younger (9ish), it’s only later when I understood the significance of it.

    It’s called rock wool, and you can just plant the baby ferns in the substrate if you can’t be bothered with the hassle of potting.

    When it comes to schooling fish (tetras, barbs, danios) sexing doesn’t really matter if it’s a decent group. It’s more centerpiece fish (bettas, Apistogramma) where sexing is very useful when putting together a tank.

    My hospital waiting room has a tank with 3 in. They had no idea what they were ! Have you noticed any sort of health issues at all?

    I’ve bred these before, and it’s very hard to tell the difference between a fat one and an eggbound one (I expect they’re often both!) if the scales are pineconeing (sticking out at weird angles) you’re dealing with a sickness. Are you thinking about breeding them at all?

    I think that there are some good devices…check Amazon! I’ve used a GoPro to film fry and shrimp from downcurrent (behind them so they didn’t see the camera) for a school presentation. Pretty cool footage, come think of it!

    I profoundly admire all those who do/are constrained to do this hobby on a budget. Beautiful shrimp! I can see a lot of good colors on them, a promisingly colorful colony and journal!

    6 juvies is a good starting number. I started with 3, and 2 didn’t grow (stunted?) while the platinum one got massive and beautiful; but had a vile temper.
