  1. Yeah, I used to have a 850 mah lipo that I scraped against some concrete and I really disliked using it until it started to smell and puff so I ended up getting a new one. I think I saw a demonstration of it somewhere, probably FliteTest demonstrating what happens when you overcharge it was pretty dramatic... It seems like gas might be safer in some situations since it's only the vapor thats flammable compared to a LiPo always being flammable?
  2. You could dilute it in your tank by mixing normal water with a high KH with water with a lower KH such as distilled water or reverse osmosis water. This also applies to GH, and I personally use this to prevent minerals from spiking in my Walstad aquarium since excess minerals aren't removed in a weekly water change.
  3. Neocaridina prefer to have harder water, with a pH of 7.0 or above. Most neocaridina shrimp in the aquarium hobby are of the Neocaridina davidi species of shrimp so a red cherry shrimp is the same as a blue dream. They are the same shrimp just with a different appearance so these parameters will work for pretty much all of the different variations similar to different strains of guppies, endlers, etc needing roughly the same water. Wikipedia has a list of neocaridina shrimp and a page on the individual species, and I also highly recommend Aquarium Coop's care guides on them too.
  4. Ohh, sorry I misinterpreted and thought that you were saying that you had nitrates from your tap water, sorry about that!
  5. Hi, as I understand it your water parameters sound good, your Kh and Gh are a bit on the lower end, but I doubt it will cause a problem the only thing I see that might pose a problem is the nitrate, but given that your fish are happy it will probably also be fine. For the most part neocaridina shrimp prefer to have a lot of minerals in their water, whereas something like a caridina shrimp would need softer water which is where a reverse osmosis unit might be useful. Good luck!
  6. I mostly feed Xtreme Betta Pellets, and give out Hikari Spirulina Brine Shrimp every Friday. Honestly I think that my betta might like the pellets more than anything else. I got really excited about the Xtreme Krill Flakes when I got them, but he ended up just ignoring them for the most part lol.
  7. Yeah, I like the lithium polymer batteries in general, but really dislike how dangerous they can be if handled improperly. Personally I really like the idea behind balsa since it seems similar to how most aircraft are made today, with spars and a covering especially on the wings and tail. I haven't seen a gas/glow plane yet, but they sound really cool, and fun to fly!
  8. Probably a betta, but (at least for me and in my opinion) I think its really hard to get a good schooling fish for a 5 gallon so maybe some chili rasbora, or maybe white clouds?
  9. Hello everyone, so I was recently writing about fishkeeping and and needed to write the name of the parasite that causes Ich "Ichthyophthirius multifiliis" and struggled to pronounce that or read it, so out of curiosity how many people can say "Ichthyophthirius multifiliis" and not have to practice saying it using tongue twisters as a warm up?
  10. I haven't used them personally but a 3D printer might be able to make something, plus you can customize it to anything you want. Something like PLA would be aquarium safe since it corn based. (Hmmm, PLA on the cob, sounds delicious!) Something like Tinkercad is a great tool for simple projects, plus its free. If you need any help feel free related to designing in Tinkercad feel free to ask! There's also a topic here about it:
  11. Thanks, I think for now I'll let the tank fill in a bit more so that anything like snails or shrimp I do add can take cover from tank mates so there's less stress and it can take up any extra bioload they may add. Plus doing SUPER NERM research before I get anything else lol.
  12. Hi, a little more than a month ago my mystery snail died, they had been showing signs of being unhappy for a while and had been floating, it really stings since it had been showing its unhappiness, and I hadn't killed anything before it. I'm not quite sure what caused their death since there were several possible factors, and it was soon after being brought back form the LFS. My question is what a white fuzz around it might've been, I'm not sure how long it had been dead, although when I pulled it out of the tank the trapdoor and pieces of flesh came off. I'm guessing it might be stress slime, but I haven't been able to find any pictures of what it would look like online? Thanks
  13. That's one of the things I really like about the rc hobby, you can learn by trial and error, and as long as you're being safe you only need to worry about not hitting the ground. I have a Great Planes balsa plane that I got from a club raffle a while ago, once I get some more experience flying foamies I'll hopefully learn to build with balsa on a different model then build and fly the Great Planes one. I also need to learn how to use a brushed motor and work without a BEC, or I might just update the electronics, not quite sure yet though.
  14. @DaveSamsell That's a lot! I've mostly been doing smaller foam board stuff, like the Flite Test Mighty Mini series. I have a simulator already, "Aerofly RC 7", I really like it and have had a lot fewer incidents of high vertical speed going downwards lol.
  15. Thanks for the replies! I'm still a fairly novice radio control pilot but love building and I've done more builds then I'd like to admit due to crashing so many times. I really love the use of foam board since it is fast to build, easy, and fun. Not to mention budget friendly. I'm designing and building my own plane and have done the fuselage, part of the nose, and the tail without the vertical and horizontal stabilizers yet.
  16. Hi everyone, I noticed that a lot of people here are from either the aviation community or the rc hobby, so why not have a thread in the forum about it? If you would like to you can post anything related to aviation &/or radio controlled planes, quadcopters, cars, crawlers, boats, etc here. Things like updates on projects, stories, etc are also welcome!
  17. Hi, if your tap water is in between 5 and 20 dGH then you can use that and just add dechlorinator. However if it's not you can just use the filtered water then add something like Seachem Equilibrium to harden and buffer it.
  18. @James Black Ha, so am I. Give me a drone or air race over a football game any day. Although I don't normally pay too much attention to the games I'll probably watch the Super Bowl.
  19. Hi everyone, just out of curiosity who does everyone hope is going to win, and if you want to why?
  20. Not really TV but I'm following a YouTube gaming series. (The Hermitcraft Minecraft server, no idea if anyone else watches lol). Plus theres this really interesting show thats playing pretty much 24/7 about a fish swimming around in an aquarium and always looking for food even when they've just been fed. On a more serious note "The Good Doctor" and a Star Trek series are really good too.
  21. Personally I would go with the kit then modify it to fit your needs. If your quarantining shrimp for example you could just keep the heater and light but replace the HOB with a sponge filter. Or if its goldfish just save the heater for when something breaks.
  22. Bettas are just like potato chips, you always want more and they taste good!
  23. Okay, thank you, I think someone like @James Black, @Mr_Manifesto, and @Colu might be able to help more than me since I don't have very much experience with corydoras.
  24. It could be, I can't really find anything specifically about tap water. Although it might be just getting rid of anything in the system that hasn't been used, or maybe getting rid of any debris or sediment? All of this is just speculation so by no means take this as a fact, I just use the water lol. If you email the city they would probably know though.
