  1. Hey! Currently only a pilot in the recreational sUAS (drone) flying context, but studying for the Part 107 exam, and a private pilot's license when I become eligible (as I'm only 15 right now). If I may ask, are you going for a job at the airlines? (Also love the Cessna(?) on your profile banner!)
  2. Hi, to the best of my knowledge "octopus" is the same plant as one labelled without it although I could be wrong. When I had the plant as ACO sells it, it definitely did not need CO2 to grow like a weed throughout my tank. Those look like the emersed grown leaves to me, so I would expect them to melt before the thinner leaves you mentioned grow in. Good luck!
  3. Got a new desk and put it right next to my 10 gal.. This is either going to be great for, or destroy my productivity lol
  4. Hi agreed with the above posts, somewhat unrelated but, if you're wanting to hide the white spots you can put a thin film of glue on the wood, sprinkle/rube in some crushed up similarly coloured substrate, and wipe away excess. Worked pretty well for me at hiding it. (Also that wood looks awesome!)
  5. Random teenager here (started in middle school), and yes absolutely, it's definitely given me something to do during lockdown, and just something to be excited about for the past 3 years, as well as taken my mind off the events in the world (which has been a massive benefit). Apart from that it's almost definitely helped with my interest/grades in biology classes as going into them I've already had a "base" of knowledge. Happy holidays!
  6. Hi everyone, so I've had this white fuzz growing on certain objects (wood, ohko stone, aquarium glass if any plant/food is stuck), and was wondering what it is, and how dangerous it is or isn't to me and my pets? Thank you!
  7. 2 years on the forum... wow.. Thanks to everyone who's been/is on here for the great community!

  8. Hi, I'm not sure, but if you're talking about this:It appears to be a 3D print, similar to this file? (looked it up awhile ago) Hope this helps!
  9. Hi, I'd be willing to bet you'd be able to get customer support to help you, but mine is around 21mm or 13/16in in diameter, hope this helps!
  10. Hi everyone, so I had an interesting experience happen to me a few days ago. So for background, I'm a bit of a theater kid at my school, and following the closing of our production I went to a cast party wearing my ACO hoodie. Several hours into it an alumni of my school (who had never mentioned anything related to fish) who was also there commented on my hoodie and I was interested to find out that as well as knowing what Aquarium Coop is, they have a large number of aquariums. (Another cast member who had fed their tanks mentioned it had taken 45 minutes to get through it). It was really cool getting to talk fish for a bit, so I was wondering now if anyone has any similar fun stories?
  11. Hi, I had a similar experience with a piece of mopani a year or two back Based off what I read it could be hydrogen sulfide that builds up in the substrate/low oxygen environments from bacteria until it’s nudged and released. Hope this helps!
  12. Salve, je prends le cours du francais et le cours du latin au lycèe. I like both, however latin is quite painful sometimes with the amount of tables to memorize, worth it most of the time though.. Noun adjective agreement is a massive pain lol Salve, habeo quartadecem piscis et alismatis in mihi aquarium. Amo chili rasborae sed bettae sunt bonae. Bettae amat edire multae (some of these words obviously didn't exist to the romans so I've just used the english words and declined them if needed, also english is my first language so this almost definitely isn't perfect)
  13. Hi, at least for me and my tanks with Miracle-Gro potting soil I just dump a thin layer in the bottom of my tank then put substrate on top. So far no tannins since it was set up (around the end of 2020) but like the post above me says, you can do a fee things to remove them, if needed. Hope this helps!
  14. Hi everyone, not a ton has changed recently, but I recently trimmed my plants and got some pictures I’m pretty happy about
  15. Hi, in my experience most stem plants don't really NEED to be rooted, and will do fine floating. I've also seen my monte carlo have pieces break off on their own, and to the best of my knowledge they are still floating around and fairly green. For me I don't usually care too too much as long as it's still the rough idea of what I had in mind, and just change it if I need to. I also usually just fill the tank up very slowly, so it stays roughly where I want it. Hope this helps!
  16. Currently have 14 in a school that has been rather shy, they don't seem to be cramped either with everyone getting a pretty good amount of room to move about. Pretty peaceful too, haven't seen them do anything to my cherries or when I had a gourami in with them
  17. Hi, for me it definitely has to be my school of chilis. As someone with rather limited tank space being able to have a pretty good sized school of fish in a nano tank is a dream, doesn't hurt they're easy and look good too!
  18. So, long time no writing, but today was a busy day so here we go: I took down the previous attempt at a scape that had just stagnated, and spent a few hours on my 10 gallon with this as the result: I'm honestly rather proud of how it turned out, however it really does need some time to grow in, and I'm not sure I'm completely satisfied with the background plants right now, as well as the background in general. I'm planning on trying to get a nice carpet on most of the exposed aquasoil areas, and just get a more professional look to the tank. I additionally went to my LFS, and picked up some amanos for the remaining black beard algae. They're still roughly the size of a cherry shrimp, but looking forward to them being bigger, and seeing what results they might produce
  19. Probably a bunch of whatever plant I can get that’s fast growing, plus maybe a few mosses or rhizomes but save enough for a few rcs and guppies for a colony. Ironically, during a class field trip when my bus stopped to get dinner at a rest area the most expensive option was McDonalds. Didn’t bring enough with me to get something there, but Papa Gino’s is the best pizza chain and no one can change my mind. I’ll bet a Fluval 3.0 on it!
  20. Hi, as a fellow student aquarist, having Walstad style tanks has been really helpful for not doing a ton of maintenance. Additionally just look around, and just get a good idea of the basics of what’ll look good and what might not. Playing with texture (as well as shape and colour) is something I generally think makes a tank great, and you can see that with the amount of mosses Tanner uses. Just play around and push yourself, with new ideas. Good luck!
  21. Hi, like others have said pretty much just whatever you want. I like playing around with looks so something that goes well with the shrimp's colour perhaps. Mosses additionally can work well if you're really trying to get biofilm/grazing surfaces for the shrimp due to their high surface area.
  22. Hi everyone! So, I've decided to restart my journal (I ended up deleting (hence the "forgotten" bit of the title) the previous one as I felt it was becoming more of a drag to update than what I felt it was worth). At least for now mine is going to be very much a "if I have the time and energy" type thing where some things might get mentioned, some might not. As it's been a bit here're some updates on my tanks: 5.5 Gallon This is arguably the one that's changed most, as I've ripped out the jungle type aquascape:(Picture from 9/16/21) and replaced it with a bit more of an updated setup stocked with 14 chili rasboras, and colonies of RCS and bladder snails:It's currently a bit of a mess, however in general I'm fairly happy with it. I'm coming towards the end of dealing with some bba (I hope!), so it is somewhat of a mess. My main goals for this tank going forward are Finish the black beard algae completely, and generally tidy up the tank Get the hairgrass carpet to look that little bit healthier Move the cherries to a dedicated setup as my town's water has dropped in pH, and I still want to breed them In its current form it's been setup since December 9th, however the substrate is still pretty much the same one used for the jungle (just added a bit more aquasoil on top of what was already there), so this tank is still dirted, and Walstad. 10 Gallon I hadn't gotten this tank by the time I ended my previous journal, so most of this is new info. I set it up with a scape in mind that never really came to be, so for the past few months it's mostly just been growing algae. I've decided to do a reset with a new scape, and in the process of finding inspiration I found this tank: https://tropica.com/en/inspiration/layout/L126-GroßerRettenstein/28558 Which really caught my eye, and inspired me, so I've been planning out a setup inspired by this for the past few weeks that's come out to this: This is where I have a question however: This is obviously very similar, but with a few changes such as changing the colour of most of the plants to an orange (something that I found from that Tropica Inspiration site as well), as well as changing the path to wrap around the left side (the upper level of tan in the drawing) to add a well defined "amphitheater", or pit in the front (the bottom level of tan). I'm wondering if this is too similar, and crosses the line into theft or plagiarism, so what is the opinion of the Nerms on this? Thank you!
  23. You might be a nerm if you ask your bio teacher how water's physics affect aquatic plants... while wearing your ACO hoodie... in the middle of class, learning about hydrogen bonds. (So in my defense it was semi on topic lol)
  24. Hi, that definitely looks like duckweed. It definitely could have come in on a plant, or perhaps if you added any new fish it came in with them? (I've seen leaves that have been less than a mm in diameter so it might've been missable). It's like glitter, it's tiny, annoying, and is like a horror movie, you never know when it'll show up and when it does it doesn't go away easily.
