  1. Yes, although at that size it would be kind of pushing it, you'd probably want to get a sponge filter, or some fast growing plants like hornwort, duckweed, etc, maybe both. A 2 gallon would probably work better, but it can definitely be done with a bit of extra work. I would do 2-3 just to be cautious for a 1.5 and maybe a couple more for a 2 gallon.
  2. Sorry, lack of clarification, no I don't have a heater or a filter running on it. The inhabitants are some red cherry shrimp, random microfauna, and some hitch hiker bladder snails.
  3. I pretty much have that running right now, since my betta is in qt for beds I had to take the heater out, and my 5.5 is designed to be a Walstad aquarium so it doesn't have a filter, just plants to consume the nitrogen. After the tank blackout for a bit of green water ends (today!) I'll just have a light as the only piece of electronics on the aquarium for awhile. You can't really, I've heard about people feeding their shrimp culls to fish as a live food? I would also agree with @James Black and sell some, you could probably earn enough to get some food and supplies.
  4. Thx, I'll probably look at some types of endlers too. There're probably a bunch of other places that have the guppy I'm looking for too. Thanks !
  5. Sounds good to me! (Sorry on the voting thing, I miswrote, I like the method of having the members post it then the reactions go to them)
  6. Thanks everyone! @Kirsten would this likely also apply to guppies since they're in the same genus as endlers? (If not might experiment with lyre tails to see how that works!)
  7. @Hobbit, yes, I also like the idea of having one FTS (full tank shot) then having the option for some closer photos to add more detail if it's okay if I use your idea? As for the one or two competitions I would be fine either way. There should definitely be continuity in terms of voting systems. I personally like the idea of having members submit then using reactions that @James Black used last time.
  8. Hi, I was looking at the Aqua Huna website, and was wondering if there was a reason for there being males only for most of the variates of guppies and endlers? Thanks!
  9. Thx, I had the same idea lol. Maybe also have one large thread that has all the links of the competition threads, or tag the threads with something like "Nerm Week Competitions 2021"?
  10. Nice job, if you don't mind could I use the rules and schedule for my own competitions? Also, I'm probably missing something by at least a mile, but are the fish photo contests, and the tank competitions being consolidated into one? (I'm fine with either option, just asking for the sake of planning! 🙂)
  11. @James Black, sounds great to me! Although maybe something similar to "Prettiest Aquatic Animal" so that people with turtles, axolotls, frogs, etc can also submit? The tank competition could have the groups: Best Breeding Setup (BBS) - The best tank for both breeding, and in terms of appearance - Criteria: The submitted container must have had any sort of aquatic life breed intentionally. Most Lively Outdoor Water - The outdoor water container that supports the most diverse and lively ecosystem - Criteria: The submitted container must be outdoors in the photo, all aquatic life is accepted The Fluval 3.0 Costs a Lot - The best tank in terms of appearance that does not have any live plants in it - Criteria: No plants are allowed in the tank during the photo, algae however is allowed When Was the Last Water Change? - The best container holding water that is an enclosed ecosphere, in terms of looks, and "balance" - Criteria: This must be an enclosed ecosphere that has been sealed for at least a week (Note: Prior notice will be given.) Copper!?!!?!? - The best tank for appearance and enjoyment of the inhabitants which must be all inverts - Criteria: This must be a tank with no inhabitants apart from inverts. More of fewer groups can be added or subtracted depending on how everyone likes these? Feedback is welcome! (If you have anything, just tell me!) I also have some other ideas for groups such as high tech tanks, jungle tanks, saltwater, cold water, dirted tanks, and tanks with schooling fish only? Maybe setups can be submitted into more than one group too? Thanks!
  12. Water sprite can also be a great alternative too, in the "TEENY TINY Ideas for Your Nano Aquarium" there was a really dense "forest" of pearl weed that looked really good. Hornwort is definitely one of my favourites too. It can get fairly "melty" when you first get it, although in the short time I've had it I haven't really noticed it. I also really like finding a mix of stem plants for the background since I get to play around with textures and colours.
  13. Hi, I really like ACO's Pogostemon stellatus "octopus", given enough light in my 5.5 gallon it grows quickly, densely, and looks kind of like vallisneria when it reaches the water's surface. Hornwort, and anubias nana petite, are also really good.
  14. Best parts of the hobby, getting a salad bowl worth of plants. Can't wait to see how the Hygrophilla Siamensis turns out, the picture looks really good!
  15. Hi, I heard on Cory's shrimp livestream that "ghost shrimp" sold in pet stores are most of the time a collection of different species of brackish and freshwater shrimp, with the occasional prawn collected by accident. If they're getting along fine I would guess that it's just a different species?
  16. If it's not too late maybe some friendly tank competitions, like "Best Breeding Setup", "Best Tank on a Budget", "Most Vibrant Summer Tub", etc? (Bonus points for including a taco in the frame lol!) I'd be happy to help organize this, and other events if needed/wanted!
  17. Agreed with Daniel, in a tank with a bunch of microfauna I've noticed my betta nipping on wood, substrate, etc, then notice his stomach isn't usually very empty!
  18. Finnex be trippin'? (I saw this as a lover of the Finnex Stingray!)
  19. Hi, I haven't had any experience with honey gouramis, but I have had a betta and cherry shrimp. It would probably depend on the personality of the fish, for my betta he doesn't really care, except when they move too quickly, when he chases after them. If need be the cherry shrimp can dart away rather quickly, although it's likely stressful for them so I would still try to avoid having too much of that. Maybe try adding the shrimp first so that the gourami doesn't feel like they're invaders to their space? Also the bigger the tank the better so they have more space, and dense plants or hardscape as hiding places is probably good too. In my opinion it can definitely be done, however a bit of extra planning is probably a good idea.
  20. Probably "Your fish is (likely) FINE, no that roundness on his stomach from eating isn't dropsy. That's not fin rot either!" lol. When I started out I freaked out over pretty much my fish did apart from eat lol. (Yes, I was worried he wasn't swimming properly when he was fine lol)
  21. For me it's using the "Calendar" app on my device, it helps me keep track of everything, and is great for scheduling re-dosing meds, water changes, landmarks in the treatment of fish (ex. "Begin second treatment of Paracleanse" is on my calendar for April 17th so I don't have to keep track) etc then it has a notification when the day comes to remind me. Personally I find it really useful, but with a lot of tanks it could probably get annoying for several popups every few days.
  22. Hi, so I was thinking a while ago and was wondering how far the "We'll ship a CARE Package anywhere" policy goes? Despite the fact of me not being an astronaut would Aquarium Coop launch a CARE Package on a rocket to the ISS (International Space Station) if someone had one? Or if it only applies to the planetary body that the majority of the human population is on would they ship to places like Antartica, or other remote areas? (The heat pack would have to be HUGE for those plants lol)
  23. Hi, in my experience my pearl weed stems have been fairly brittle, so I'm guessing it's just part of the plant. Given that there isn't any rot at the end of the stems I would guess that it might just be a self propagation behaviour? (Also great carpet, I've been trying to do that in my own planted tank!)
  24. Never have to suffer through differentiating colours again!
